Well worth a visit. We diverted from the state highway at Raton Pass when on our way to Sante Fe from Denver. A superb example of a cinder cone. There's a great view of more cones to the north from the rim. It was very peaceful and we were the only people on the volcano rim during our visit in September 2015.

I’m a truck driver and have drove by there a couple times in the past month. The first time driving by being the first time I became aware of this amazing sight. Next summer I’m planning a motorcycle trip from Kansas to pikes peak, cripple creek, the royal gorge then down the Capulin volcano. Very excited to explore instead of just driving by.

I have been to many National parks but Capulin has been a favorite of mine for many years now and I have been multiple times. Definitely worth going to see, and you can camp at a state park Sugarite, only 30 mins away, which is also full of history! So go enjoy a night of stargazing at Capulin and camp out for the weekend nearby! Don’t miss the views and the hike into the crater, and don’t forget to collect your Park passport cancellation stamp! ❤
