It's a very good strat, but for the first phase, playing more agressively is ok too: light/light/heavy, rince and repeat, the only times Zhang Liang won't be interrupted is when he's too far to be touched and of course, for the red attacks. Anyway, nice video. I played the demo again and again and again... Quite a step back from Nioh in the depth of combat mechanics, but a very different feeling and a lot of fun which is the most important, so I can't wait to see what the full game has to offer :)

It looks very easy with the player on that video, but really to difficult for me... I tried all saturday morning since 8am until 1pm and couldn't pass the phase 2... This game is definitely not for me

Just take breaks and keep trying. When it finally clicks with this boss you'll find it'll click with everything else. It all comes down to mastering that deflect, so once you learn the timing you'll be beating him every time. Just don't give up!

It's the first unlock on the bottom right of the Fire tree when you learn Wizardry. Then you have to set it after you learn it to your preferred button.

The first time I met this boss I was gear weight. I was not able to deflect only roll. I'm like what the heck is going on? How come I can't deflect.

Yeah, I have that tip on my list of vids to make. Stick to green/blue weight. The lower your weight, the fast you can spirit and the slower you lose it too, but if you're yellow, you're in trouble as you can't deflect. Makes the Wizardry tree that boosts your encumberance worth investing into.

The graphics in this game actually look like something from early ps4 to late ps3 era makes me really put off by the game even when I run it on max PC settings

Hmm. You're right in some respects, though I'm on PS5 and not PC so I have no basis of comparison, might be worse looking on the PS5 for all I know. Either way, it's still very Nioh'ish in terms of graphics. That said, the character creator graphics are excellent (I spent like 2 hours in it lol), and some of the later levels look good from what I've seen. But for me it doesn't matter, the gameplay is top notch super fun and that matters to me way more than next level graphics. I can see myself lost in this game for years.

This strat doesn't work for me, His blockable attacks still stun and stagger which leaves you open for him to pummel you. Maybe it's just harder on Xbox?

I honestly find PlayStation controllers easier to use than Xbox controllers, so I guess in one sense it would be harder on Xbox for me. PS5 is also very stable compared to PC, so Xbox might be less stable framerate wise too. I don't know. But if all things are equal, if you're getting stun/staggered it means your spirit isn't getting managed and/or you're missing your deflects. For the deflects it's just practice and doing it at the last minute. For the spirit, I said hold guard in the video, but your spirit will not recover while holding block - this means you must nail your deflects or you'll easily get stunned. Until you get you're deflects right, try to press guard when he's actually coming at you instead of always holding it. Or, you can rapidly tap guard and your spirit will still heal that way while you'll still be able to have a chance at blocking too. Also, do only light attacks while you're practicing, as these will build your spirit and put it into the positive.

@@fuzzybearbarian I hold block, he hits with his normal attack, I take no damage but I get stunned. Then as I am stunned I can no longer block, he pummels me. The spirit attacks are a whole nother issue. In the video double tapping dodge moves you out of range. It doesn't work a lot of the time. The second tap leaves me in range still. I even had one instance where I started at what should be enough range already more than half the area between us, I tapped dodge to back up further, and end up deflecting as he teleported across the area right to me I beat Malinia(sp?) in Elden Ring in half a dozen attempts. I've already been stuck on this training section boss for more than 2 hours. I've only reached the second stage once, and got smoked in 10 seconds because I had no health. I think the only option is to farm levels harder than I did in Dark Souls 1. I'll probably be level 80 when I finally beat him. Lol

Are you taking notice of your spirit guage? You will only get stunned when you have no room to move with it. Watch your actions and see how they affect your guage. For instance, double dodging will fill it up. Blocking will fill it up. Holding block will not let it recover. Also, the heavier your armor the slower it refills and the faster it fills. So consider dropping down to light armor with spirit perks. Absolutely make sure on your stats screen your weight encumberance is not yellow. It must be green at worst, blue at best. Stop doing Martial Arts for a minute and just do light attacks as these recover your spirit, and see how you go from there. Check your Wizardry and see if you have anything unlocked that you can cast to help preserve/recover spirit.

@@fuzzybearbarian It took 8 hours, but I beat him. in the end I went full aggro with a Spear with the goshawk Martial arts and kept him stun locked. I also farmed levels between attempts. I started fighting him at level 7, I was level 21 when I finally beat him. I could've done it an hour sooner but got distracted by the Divine beast prompt popping up and while I was thinking "What's that?" I got killed. My armour was all light, I don't have any preorder armour. When I finally got him, I saw the beast summon flashing after the second takedown without a prompt and mashed the buttons. Everything is way easier after that fight. Thanks.

@xaein9515 Oh, my bad. Just keep pressing the guard button, and the moment you need to deflect, press deflect. At that instant, your block animation will switch to deflect animation. Even if you mess up the timing, your held up guard will protect you.

Nah man, you got this. Just do what I said in the video so that all you have to do is concentrate on pressing dodge at the right moment and you'll eventually click with it. After that everything in the game will bow down before you. 😉

It's by the makers of Nioh and has some Nioh flavor to it in some respects, but gameplay wise it's a different beast. I'd say it's neither Nioh or Dark Souls. I think it's more fun than either of them because it relies a lot less on memorizing enemy and boss patterns which I really like. But the demo is free so you've got nothing to lose to find out for yourself if you like it.

@@AbdullahQumper The demo is just the tutorial and another level, so that's very, very early game. How much harder than the early game the rest of the game is remains to be seen. But that said, I don't think it's "easy", lots of people can't get passed the first boss (this video's boss). But whether it's easier than Nioh or not, it's so much more fun than Nioh to me (and I loved Nioh). I'm already addicted af, so knowing there's DLC coming in June and more in September just makes me SUPER happy 😁😁

@@fuzzybearbarian I agree with you this game is more fun than Nioh, but like the majority, and why I'm here, I can't beat the demo boss either. I had a good time with the first demo a couple months back, but not so much this demo. I've tried to beat this boss countless times. I will try again with the technique you suggest. Sadly, after so much frustration with this boss, I canceled my pre-order if this is an indication of how hard all the bosses in this game will be. I'm sure others have, too.
