Amber, this band was IT when I was in college. I bought the Kick album on cassette when I was a sophomore and I played it so much that my roommates wanted to kill me, I'm sure. Of course, my favorite among them came in my room and asked me to replay her favorite song. Every time an INXS song came on in the club, everyone hit the dance floor. It was the best and we were ALL in love with Michael Hutchence!

I saw INXS in concert back in the late 80s. My best friend at the time(whom is deceased recently) got tickets from a radio station call in. We both had lawn seats. Took a blanket and enjoyed the show. It was the most diverse audience I have ever encountered. We had guys that looked more like they should be Bruce Springstein concert, to a woman walking in mourning clothing while a giant beach ball that look like a globe was tossed around the crowd. Was a very memorable experience. That concert was more memorable than performances in the late 90s on up.

I went and saw them in concert in '86 or '87. My freshman year of highschool. It was AMAZING!! Michael Hutchins was an AWESOME singer. He died way too soon. I've tried to get my kids to listen to more than one genre of music and I think I've done a good job with it. My 19 yr old listens to EVERYTHING. The only song that freaked my Mom out and made her ask if I was doing drugs was Blasphemous Rumors by Depeche Mode, but she probably questioned INXS also.

INXS were my first favorite band, when Kick came out. Not a bad song on it. A friend of mine had the privilege to do some promotion stuff for them, and said they were the sweetest guys. My personal favorite record of theirs is The Swing. They weren't worldwide sensations yet, and there's so much creativity and hunger on it, it still floors me. And I also dearly love their first two records, so young and unassuming. Michael's Max Q project is fantastic, for those of you who might not have heard it. Brutally honest and hypnotic, and that album was sonically unlike anything I've heard before or since. Great reaction as always. Much love.

@@thisnicelady When I saw them with the Go Gos I was sure who they were at first, so before the concert I called the radio and ask them to play an INXS song,so they played Original Sin. I knew I was going to like them after hearing it.

INXS is known for their live performances. Michael was an exceptional singer, songwriter and frontman. You have to understand that there were the biggest band at that time. They were voted as the best live band, best male vocalist, best international band and of course Michael was the sexist frontman. They blew past U2 and blew Michael Jackson off the charts! Three members of INXS are brothers. In order, Tim (the riff master), Andrew (keyboard, backing vocals, guitar, songwriter) and Jon (the drummer). The others were friends that all were at school together and playing together before the age of 15. They had to wait to go on the road because they had to graduate from school and Jon was too young, but “the best white drummer” according to Nile Rodgers. Michael can sing anything and some day you will have to check out his MAX Q project and his solo album “Loved One”, I think MAX Q is my favorite but there is so much to pick from. There is also soundtracks, live performances and INXS did duets with Jimmy Barnes, Ray Charles and Chrissy Hind of the Pretender’s. INXS did the hard work, the early stuff has influences from Asia and Aboriginal music, hence the are Ozzies. The were banned from radio for a while after there song “Original Sin” from the early ’80’s, the record companies passed on the album KICK, and one company offered them a million dollars to re-record it they passed and it ended up defining a new genre of music. They were also banned from MTV not because of the suggestive sexual content but because of vouyresim in the video “Taste It”. INXS preform on the tube in the UK and the station was flooded with angry calls that the station played a prerecorded track, but it was live and no one believed it because they are that good! That being said you can pick anything to review and pick anything from the 1991 Wembley live concert, it is flawless. I have picked a couple of live tracts for you. If you want to hear and see the talent here is a softer and deeper register “By My Side” kzbin.info/www/bejne/nH67fYKQnr16gKM and the power and energy “suicide Blonde” kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHmQkIuqqddoqLM watch the audience go nuts! You don’t need to review this but it is fun to see Michael when he was young and very shy, he hid behind his hair in “Simple Simon” kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2KukJuXmM9glaM. As you can see, they have so much more to offer and I could tell ya so much more. The only reason I have so much to say, is because in the ’80’s you could do anything and I turned INXS into an independent 3 credit college project! I loved the ’80’s!

I have to comment on my own comments because of serendipity. The show I mention above, "INXS preform on the tube in the UK and the station was flooded with angry calls that the station played a prerecorded track, but it was live and no one believed it because they are that good! " was just posted to the internet from a VSH taped TV copy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2LIk4d_adKLas0 The visual quality is great, vocal are a little quiet, Michael is young and beautiful and this was all before the explosion of the album KICK. This is something you will have to bookmark for later. You have reacted to one of these songs "What you Need", but the others are "This Time", "Original Sin" & "Listen Like Thieves". Now, if you are ever gonna do a live reaction, I will always recommend you do anything from the 1991 Wembley concert for so many reasons.

RIP Michael Hutchence. We lost a true talent and I just can’t help but wonder if this incredible band could have been bigger than the Beatles if he hadn’t passed away. In their short time, INXS created so many hits! Don’t Change, Suicidal Blonde, Never Tear Us Apart, Devil Inside, What You Need just to name a few. You could never truly put them in a box. I miss them.

Love this song, and INXS in general!!! Kick is an AMAZING album, so much great stuff on it!!! Definitely should react to Need You Tonight if you haven't already, but make sure you react to the version that includes Need You Tonight AND Mediate (those songs go one into the other and should always be listened to together,) plus The One Thing, Don't Change, Original Sin, I Send a Message, The Swing, Listen Like Thieves, Kiss the Dirt (Falling Down the Mountain,) This Time, Mystify, Kick, By My Side, Bitter Tears, Beautiful Girl, and Elegantly Wasted

This is one of my favourite tracks by INXS. The depth of sleaze and darkness in the lyrics is both haunting but very powerful - sexual appetite, pride, arrogance, and that great line: "here comes the world with that look in its eye; future uncertain, but certainly slight". The lyrics shine a light on the darker sides of humanity, but with an amazing guitar riff and Hutchence's breathy, sexy delivery. A classic! Sadly, in a way Hutchence was overcome by his own 'demons', but that just adds to the power and poignancy of this song to me. We all have that potential "Devil Inside" which we need to recognise and deal with. Some choose to go with it and let it consume them, some try to fight but lose the battle, while others keep fighting and win, or at least keep it in check. "Makes you wonder" indeed!

Michael Hutchence was a great lead man, for sure! I saw them in concert in Portland, Maine in 1986. Broke a couple ribs (I was a peanut at 98 lbs.) getting pushed against the barricade in the front row so hard from the crowd! Loved every minute of it though!!

Great that you are back with INXS!!! This song was huge, one of their biggest hits and was on the radio forever...and still is. It's not my favourite and hasn't aged as well as their other hits but is still fantastic and goes totally off live...as most INXS songs do...they are a live band and the songs are written for live performances in a big stadium.

The keyboards in the song give it the feel of a carnival. And at carnivals almost anything can happen, and usually does. Shot on Balboa Island just north of Newport Beach, this video can certainly give one pause to think. INXS was this incarnation, and on Micheal Hutchence's death it truly was no more.

MIchael Hutchence was an incredible talent who was taken from us way too soon. This band had all the tools to last for decades. God bless the band for trying to go on with various other singers, but Michael's death just left too big of a hole to be filled by just another singer. That's not meant as a knock on JD Fortune or any of the others who did their best to try to carry the flag for INXS but it just wasn't meant to be without him. RIP Michael. You are greatly missed, brother.

It's funny that you mentioned The Doors when reacting to INXS. Michael Hutchence was compared to Jim Morrison a lot when the band first became popular - not only for his looks & voice, but his stage presence as well. He could captivate an audience. Some other INXS songs to check out include "I Need You Tonight", "Mystify", "Suicide Blonde", "The One Thing", "Original Sin", & "Elegantly Wasted". RIP Michael Hutchence.

Interesting you mentioned Val Kilmer while watching INXS. Michael Huchence expressed interest in playing Jim Morrison in the Doors movie. Val got the role, but Micheal would been really good at singing Doors tunes.
