I own a 2019 RE Interceptor, one of the earliest models since its launch in Nov 2018. Purchased in Jan 2019, it initially had a wobbling issue above 100 kmph. Surprisingly, a simple fix resolved it. A puncture led me to a local tyre shop, where I discovered the tube was incorrect for an 18-inch rim, likely intended for a Honda Unicorn or Shine. Changing to the correct size tube eradicated the wobble, even at speeds of 160 kmph. Check your front tube size - it should be 100/90/18.

Questions come to mind: 1) Did you check the balance of both wheels? The tires might have had uneven mass distribution, which manifested in a wobble as the rubber gradually wore down. 2) Did you check the lateral runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The tire may have gotten distorted with wear, or the rims may have gone non-planar or non-perpendicular with the axis of rotation. 3) Did you check the radial runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The over-tightening of a spoke points to this having been a problem the mechanic found. 4) Was the steering quicker when you went to tubeless tires?

@@SrinivasGanesh - Your mention of an Outex tubeless conversion is the 1st report (in English) that I've seen. Do you recall what the immediate effect was on the steering? @@SrinivasGanesh I made a mistake. I am actually running 17 rear and 18 front. I swapped the rear rim to the front for the new wider profile tyre and replaced the rear with a Racing Boy 17" 4.50 rim. Don't ask me why i did that i am new to motorcycles(clueless) and this is a common and popular mod amongst the twin riders here in Thailand so I went along with it. Lol. Good thing is, it turned out good(beginner's luck lol). Bike feels more eager to lean and those mt60rs give me alot more confidence than the stock pirellis. Wobbling went away like magic. Thank God. The stance of the bike changed a little. More aggressive now imho. Total damage was less than 500 dollars all in. 1 rim, tyres front and rear and balancing, alignment. It was alot of work. Unlikely to be the tires, unless the tires were not balanced - then you should have your tires balanced. if you were being very picky you would ask a machine shop to balance you wheel without a tire in a machine shop. then back at the garage balance the tire on the wheel. The wobble was most likely caused by incorrect tension on the wire spokes. the rims could also be distorted also a very common issue. Another contributory factor could have a single weight fork oil. dirt inside one fork leg also can cause this. But the usual cause is a bent or out of true fork leg. If you have a problem and your mechanic didn't fix then your going to the wrong mechanic and you risk doing serious damage to your bike
@SrinivasGanesh2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your input brother. The tyres were balanced, once from the certified RE service center and one from a reputed workshop outside of RE. The tension was resolved and the wobbling was still there. As in, on the machine it was spinning without any fuss and wobble. But starts to wobble when the bike was on the road again. And Like I mentioned in the video, I got the fork oils checked as well. They were intact. No sign of leakage, dirt, etc. i went a step further and installed front adjustable suspensions from YSS, using a different grade oil. Then checked the forks for signs of bending, there weren’t any. So final solution, as stated in the video, was to change the tyre. I did, and now no wobble at speeds above 80 till 120. I’m happy.

Does it sit comfortably between the sprocket and swing arm ? Is there any scrapping or brushing against the swingarm ? Notice any difference in the fuel economy as well as the top speed ?

Problems? No problems, slight wider rear tyre meaning more contact patch on the road for better traction. It is very much safe to do so. It sits comfortably between the sprocket and the swing arm. Fuel consumption remains unchanged at 24-25 kmpl in city under ideal conditions. I’m not that enthusiastic in reaching top speed. I whole heartedly believe in cruising at under 120 kmph. Hi Sri. Great video. A few comments and questions I had: 1. 17 inch front alloys isn't feasible because of brake calipers and disc mismatch anyway. Did some research on it. 2. Can you please specify the required tyre pressures for these. 3. When we change the tyre size, do we need some adjustments in suspension setup too? 4. Outex is a bit expensive, what are your thoughts on way2speed conversion kit? 5. If we get the conversation kit, how can we assure that we don't face the air deflation issue? Would love your response on these. Thanks.
@SrinivasGanesh Жыл бұрын
Required tyre pressure as stated on timsun website is 40 front 40 rear. But I use 39 in front. I don't believe any adjustment is required in suspension, unless ofcourse you are planning on touring with luggage. Way2Speed is okay, I just don't really think that it is levelled enough, but it is surely good. Outex was a personal preference. Nothing wrong with way2speed. you won't face air deflation issue at all, unless you take it a local mechanic, don't tell him you have outex installed and ask him to tighten the spokes. The spokes will then disrupt the tape on the inside, you wheel, however now balanced, will be leaking air that you won't even know about. And that is what I have talked about in this video.

@SrinivasGanesh2 жыл бұрын

Sometimes the problem is with the wheel's balance. They do this every time they change the tires, so perhaps it wasn't the tire after all. I've heard they don't do the balancing properly at the factory.

Will a steering damper solve this issue regardless of the other fixes?
@SrinivasGanesh2 жыл бұрын
The wobbling, in my motorcycle, was due to tyre manufacturing defect. Hence upon changing that, the wobbling was gone. Steering damper won’t be able to reduce wobbling if it is caused by bad tyres.

I recently experienced wobbling on my almost new (2000 kms clocked a few days back). This has never happened while riding with a pillion and I have carefully tested it at 60,80 and 100 kmph. On our recent trip (myself, same pillion and around 30kg of luggage), I noticed wobbling at 80kmph and haven't been able to understand the reason. As we are back now, I am yet to try out again and see if the wobbling still exists (with the pillion but without the luggage). A little context before I ask you this... Could the luggage be the reason for wobbling?
@SrinivasGanesh2 жыл бұрын
There could be one of the reasons that I point out in the video, could be because of the unevenness of the road as well. Luggage could be a reason as well, that is only if they were not balanced, or weighed differently on either sides. Please keep us posted if you were able to find the reason.

Cone set tightened by the service center (I have to take their word). Still at exactly 90KMPH the bike wobbles. Its fine above and beyond that speed. Thoughts?

Personally if I had a wobble like that allways check the cost free solutions first. Air, tyre weights (blance) and spoke flex. Once checked them and not the issue tyre quality and alignment. The fork oil levels I wouldn't of had tested and as there a few simple cost free checks you can do to see of you lost any oil in forks with testing the dive and rebound. And headstock bearing if you put bike on centre stand you grab the front wheel you can feel for flex at both dead stops..

Use the tyre depth measuring tool to measure the tyre depth. Many a time the tyres 'look' good but are not. So that is the only sure shot way to find out. If the tool says the tyre is worn out then you know the solution.

The wobbling is because of the stock rims. I saw Ayush vermas video, he took an interceptor with stock spokes and a continental with alloys to their top speeds, the alloy wheel continental didn’t wobble at all, the interceptor started wobbling, my meteor 350 also starts wobbling a bit at 110kmph+. Guess it’s a genetic mutation for the new set or Royal Enfield’s🤙

@@SrinivasGanesh it’s weird how the earlier bikes like bullet, thunderbird and Himalayan never had these issues, from what I’ve heard. Could it be the double cradle frame? That’s disrupting the stock spokes of the continental and interceptor, and the stock alloys of the meteor? But the classic reborn hasn’t had any news on steering wobble. Kind of makes me happy to see these new bikes fail, as I am a BHULT DUG DUG fanboy 😂.

@@SrinivasGanesh I’m gonna experiment a bit more on my meteor. going to try to drag the front wheel a bit more ahead, to give it the Harley look, chop the mudguard a bit. I’m 15 so the posture is way too relaxed for me so going to be changing the handle bars to like the fz16 straight bar. When the time of changing the tyre comes around I’ll definitely upsize it to 140-150 in the rear, and like a 110-120 in the front. A KZbinr by the name of kartik customz has installed the 17 inch rim of the meteor on his continental, and has installed the Apollo alpha h1 150/60/17 tyre. He rides at the above 130kmph speed most of the time and leaves his hands a lot. His bike doesn’t seem to wobble, his front tyre has also been changed from a 100mm to a 110mm, but he still kept the 18 inch rim. But the wobble always seems to get fixed when the tyres/rims are changed. Another guy known as Sonu plaha on KZbin had installed alloys on his interceptor, it still wobbled. It’s sus af.
