Tape 0051 is a collection of General Mills Cheerios commercials from a ¾” master tape. Also a 16mm TV print of Top Cat from 1960 with Commercials, an episode of The Brighter Day from 1960 from a 16mm TV print, an episode of Valent Lady from 1955 from a 16mm TV prints, and finally an episode of Another World from 1974. All feature original commercials.

60 years have passed like a one day. Top Cat is timeless.

"Top Cat" was another prime time cartoon ABC tried to capitalize on the success of "The Flintstones" during the early 1960s. It was a one-season disappointment (ratings wise, anyway in 1961-62),despite having Arnold Stang as the voice of the title character. "Top Cat" would excel as a Saturday morning show.

I previously mentioned that "TOP CAT" was originally sponsored on alternate weeks (in its only prime-time season on ABC, telecast in black and white) by Kellogg's and Bristol-Myers. This is one of those B-M episodes [for Ban and Bufferin]. And incidentally, they were NOT happy with the results of their sponsorship, and wanted to cancel their commitment as soon as possible. Since the series had lackluster ratings {that was one reason}, it became a moot point. They stayed until the season ended.

Based on the voice credit for Ge Ge Pearson, the credits and commercials come from "Top Cat Falls In Love" (aired Nov. 8th 1961).

I would respectfully disagree. Even if Ge Ge voiced in that episode, that one was animated 100% by Kenneth Muse---I can tell his style. I'd love to see all the original credits, not that blanket deal they show now.

To clarify, you see in this that Ed & Tony Love animated this episode. Add to that, the copyright date looks like 1962, a later episode. I think TC Falls in Love was in the first eight or so, fall '61. Maybe Barry I. can add something here. 🙂

Too bad they lost the original end credits and put one end credit onto all 30 episodes for syndication and DVD. Hopefully, Warner Archive might possibly restore the original end credits for a possible Blu-ray release.

I believe Bill & Joe had an agreement: they would share joint directing credit- on their many shorts and series- with each of their names listed first.....alternately.
