Is it worst than fossil fuel and franking and coal?
@spectrumofreality3 күн бұрын
There's no such thing as fossil fuel, this is a manufactured misnomer to falsely facilitate the notion of scarcity. Hydrocarbons are what they are and they are omnipresent and renewable. CO2 is also not a greenhouse gas. It has a greater mass and specific gravity than both nitrogen and oxygen and therefore the insignificant amount in our atmosphere (.04%) sinks and accumulates on or near the ground where of course the plant life resides that requires it for homeostasis. It's also non toxic and we could easily have ten times as much without an issue...
@joulesbeef3 күн бұрын
not even close.. and lol at the heartland bot below trying to convince you that oil is renewable.. sure over millions of years. lol and yeah co2 is a tiny portion of our atomsphere.. so no effect right? I guess the guy with his own spectrum of reality wouldnt mind eating cyanide after all the percent of his total body mass will be even smaller than percent of co2 in our atmosphere therefore according to his own logic, he will be fine

Current energy needs carbon mined. The biggest lie in EV's is they are better or worse for the enviroment. If you look at how many old ICU cars 20-40 years old. But the batteries in all current modern EV's is going to see a 3 to 4 new vehicles for each old ICE so the emisisons that A ICE engine is problem but the throw away of all the other body and components in EV's due to the Battery life cycle is moving the waste and pollution.

All of this is far far less damaging than burning 100-million barrels of oil for energy every day. The fossil fuel industry requires a massive 24x7x365 operation to explore, drill, refine all that crude oil before a single drop of highly refined gasoline/diesel is burnt for energy. Gasoline & diesel do not appear magically at the gas pump ready for use and its production chain uses a huge amount of energy and produces a significant amount of environmental harm on an ongoing basis. Every day, cities all around the globe are clogged with internal combustion engine (ICE) emissions. Gasoline and diesel vehicles spew their toxic and carcinogenic emissions right in our faces in the places where we live, work, and play. There are cancerous emissions like benzene, toluene, xylene (BTX) but BTX is absolutely required to increase gasoline octane and reduce engine knock. In order to get any useable of power out of gasoline, you need a high enough octane level. Then there's NOₓ, SOₓ, and carbon monoxide right known to cause respiratory irritation and diseases. That's even with a catalytic converter installed.

I think the wording is misleading. In that the situation is called a problem instead of a challenge. When saying this or that will not eliminate the problem to me it is obvious you mean will not eliminate human activity or humans in general. In other words you are saying people are the problem and that is a negative approach. Everything is a challenge or a hurtle to be conquered. Not a problem.

Petroleum is here to Stay. No petroleum no wind mills, no solar panels.
@valoriethechemistКүн бұрын
No, it's not. This is an exhaustible resource for the most part. Meaning we have about a decade before oil production can't keep up (without devastating what's left of the environment; and even then it's under a century; we are squandering one of the most significant natural resources we've ever discovered and our first instincts has been to literally light it on fire and burn it into our atmosphere at astounding rates) and that means our economics will then collapse around such a resource. Meaning the cost of oil and oil based technology will increase. Rapidly, without remorse. Our current economic model and choosing to continue it leads to collapse. Meaning we literally have no viable energy source without shackling ourselves to corporations as wage slaves and begging for enough energy. Which is exactly how corporate and government interests want it to be. Stay? No. Nothing stays. We change, we adapt, we learn to be more efficient or perish to a controllable level that in our current world means wage slavery.
@davidanalyst6712 сағат бұрын
petroleum will be used for forever, but I don't know about thhat windmills and no solar panels crap.
@beyondfossil2 сағат бұрын
More details needed: The *energy* portion of petroleum will disappear within 100-years. But the petrochemical use of petroleum for plastics and lubrications will stay for longer. But petrochemical (plastics, lubrications, cosmetics, etc) use is a tiny tiny fraction of the 100-million barrels of oil burned up into the atmosphere every day for energy. You could pave a plastic highway across N. America with a few days' worth of those barrels. Without the energy portion of petroleum, the fossil fuel industry will be just a shell of its former self. Even so, plastics are becoming an increasing source of environmental and biological problems. It will be replaced with bioplastics eventually especially for food wrapping.
@valoriethechemistСағат бұрын
@ While this is true... even 90% reduced oil production or less would have significant impacts on everything from the availability of such resources, the costs of obtaining them and their uses and disposal and still exacerbate unfavorable environmental conditions. It's less that we need to think about how a collapsing industry may endure, and more about the technologies we want to preserve. Modern Medicine and medical technology is inseparable from the use of energy and plastic. I would assume that we'd all want such services and emergency protections to endure. And if it were framed in the light of we get to choose healthcare and advancement in medicine or have to use biodegradable straws I think the choice becomes more understandable. And there's a lot more choices in each industry and sector as you mention. Leaving those decisions up to corporations and marketing is exactly how we got into this mess in the first place. It will never be the solution. Freedom of choice with more accurate choices being presented is one of our only ways out of this nightmare without some rather sad outcomes.
@valoriethechemistСағат бұрын
@ forever is a far, far, far longer time than petroleum use can endure. It requires millions of years and the correct conditions to produce and extract. It may be possible to extend our use of it by using its fractions more efficiently but it will not be replenished at a rate that allows us to continue anything close to beyond a few decades. And there's collapse thereof WILL mean our use of oil ends. In part, and in scale at minimum. That's not negotiable. That's what they're planning. Exhaust the resource to make it more valuable as the hordes we have will then be worth more so we can control the populations through economics.

None of these problems are insurmountable compared to the dwindling supplies of toxic fossil fuel drilling, refining and use. Like all technologies, renewables will be made through improved production and recycling. Fossil fuel energy cannot be recycled as it produces high entropy gas emissions. Renewables provide a "circular economy" while fossil fuels are limited to a "linear" one-way economy. Furthermore, if renewables do not work, humanity's future will be limited to about another 200 years with a slow death. That would be a shame as human civilization goes back some 5000 years, and longer if we include our hunter/gatherer days. The sun provides us with a constant cosmic-sized 173,000-terawatts of *fusion* power non-stop. Or about 1000W per square meter peak on the ground and its always peak somewhere. At 99.9% the mass of the solar system, the Earth is just a tiny crumb next to a large watermelon, especially considering the remaining 0.1% mass is mostly Jupiter and Saturn. All the combined fossils there are and ever was and ever will be, would amount to a bucket in an ocean of water compared to the sun. A bucket! There is no source of power even remotely close to us within over 4-light years from here.
