Give up?? Africa is more than Wode Maya can even decipher... What makes the Nigerian economy moving is not those billionaires Wode Maya is meeting; it's the SMEs. Africa is not coming close to its potentials because of lack of microfinance for those petite enterprises. African leaders don't encourage cooperatives which is the biggest employer of labour and importer of technology

@@africanday7337 what keeps the Nigerian economy ticking are ALL of its businesses, encompassing BOTH large scale and MSMEs. Nonetheless, I personally understand Wode Maya’s focus on big businesses, in the sense that it is also important to demonstrate that Africans are capable of building institutions and operating large-scale complex businesses and organizations. Meanwhile, there seem to be this notion that the biggest problem facing MSMEs in Nigeria/Africa is lack of governmental support and/or finance. But while those can be real issues, more often the biggest issues are a lack of capacity. While many businesses will ‘naturally’ fail (the reality is that a lot more businesses fail than most people realize), the lack of managerial capacity of so many MSMEs owners and a seeming inability of many others to transform from just an idea and vision into a real functional organization and company (including the dissipation of control and decision-making) is the death knell for so many MSMEs. And as for financing, so long as many MSMEs remain informal (either de facto or de jury) and OPAQUE, they are not going to attract a lot of formal financing (and thus friends and family will likely remain their primary source of capital). Banks, for instance, are not going to lend (because it is other people’s money that banks use to lend) to businesses that are not transparent and accountable. Other structural issues, such as the paucity of a proper credit checking and rating system, and difficulty in enforcing contracts (including any foreclosure proceedings), also retard formal financing.

Yes. Take a direct trip to Lagos and party. I've been to Jamaica thrice on vacation. Lagos is like Kingston x 20 in population and size. You will have a MASSIVE time there. SECRET: If you set up a Jamaican restaurant in Lagos, you'll cash out big time, because there is an awareness of, and fondness for Jamaica there, but not much to go to for anything Jamaican apart from maybe playing reggae or dancehall in your car. Meanwhile we have hundreds of Chinese, Indian, Lebanese, Italian, Korean, French restaurants all doing a roaring trade.. We need more Caribbean and Soul Food restaurants in Nigeria and Africa, So give it a thought sis. 😎

Great interview Wode MAYA! Being a Cameroonian myself and living in Cameroun, I can say the problems the CEO is facing in "African Francophone Countries" is just a reflection of how backwards these ex-french colonies are, in terms of their etremely poor systems of governance, which is still overly influenced by France, as Presidents of these countries are unfortunately still choosen by France to serve their interests, in terms of backwards mentality also. The mentalities are way different and negative in these "francophone countries". The entire economies of these french speaking countries are monopolised by French companies, you can even notice these countries also use a currency owned and produced by French government in France. Right now there are debates as to whether West Africa should adopt a unique currency, and France is using Ivory Coast, Togo etc to push their agenda with ECO, which is in reality not so different from their present FCFA used presently in African french speaking of West Africa.
