Why Cilla was never given a dame-hood baffles me.

None of the Sixties female singers were given Damehoods. Dame Shirley Bassey had her first hits in 1952/3. Petula needs to be a Dame, she's been going since the 1940s. Men from the 60s, Jagger, McCartney, Ringo, Tom Jones etc., all have Knighthoods. Dusty died, but she and Cilla were given OBEs. Sandie Shaw is MBE. Lulu has the highest honour of all of the 60s female singers with a CBE. The greatest era for pop stars was definitely the 1960s, but no equality between the men and women as far as honours are concerned.
