Unlike snooker, the pool table is so small and the pockets are so big that you can hardly miss pocketing the balls. A pool player would not professionally have the skill level to win at snooker, but a professional snooker player will find pool very easy to beat a professional pool player.

Just a word to the organizations that put on these events, what most of us viewers want are cool shots and awesome breaks. The rules used should maximize this....entertainment value. When the tables are too fast, when the rails are unforgiving, when the pockets are small, all of these things make cool shots and awesome breaks less likely. Cool shots are also harder when the Shot-Clock is too fast. Cool shots include combos, caroms, kick-shots, "rail first," banks, etc. If game after game occurs and we see none of these kinds of shots, something is wrong, something needs to change. At this level, especially in a game like 8-Ball, the pros should see few "dry breaks." In this tournament, it's been routine?! :-(

You do realize that in one of the matches, a player made an error at 0-0 and never shot again. 8-ball on a 9-ft. table is too easy for the pros. The tables should play tough, especially in a winner-break format.

@@VIProfessor I'm suggesting that an alternating break with more "cool shots" would be preferable to the current model. - then again, I'm open to suggestions as to how we can see "cooler shots" and more balls on the break? There is no "Magician" with the current set of rules.....players would rather play safe than "go for it." Heck, they are even playing safe if it's simply a long shot.....it's a race to minimize risk which frankly isn't fun to watch. Or am I, as in many things (ethics, loyalty, good work ethic, honesty, integrity, etc.), too old and out of touch?

One of the ideas I had was to play for points and if someone played a bank, carom, kick they would get 2 or even 3 points, but only 1 point for a standard, straight in shot. This would encourage more risk? You could also only allow 3 safeties per rack?

I've played in some large events and what I notice is the better the player the more boring their game will appear. They will make a cool shot if it's the safest best option. The hot dog shooters are out in the early rounds. You've got to keep your head about you and play the highest percentage shots, the highest percentage leaves etc, it's always about trying to have control of the table even when you're sitting.

@@shannonmcstormy5021 you sound like a person who doesn't fully understand the game trying to make up rules to better the game that you don't fully understand. If you want to see more caroms, watch carom. If you want to see more banks, watch bank pool. Your suggestions would fundamentally change the game in a way that, to me, doesn't make much sense at all.
