8-BALL: Darren “Dynamite” Appleton, 41, recognized as the best 8-Ball player in the pro ranks, got his expertise while playing English 8-Ball with snooker size pockets in England. Jayson “Eagle Eye” Shaw, 28, from Scotland, also got his expertise playing English 8-Ball, but garnered most of his credits with 9-Ball and 10-Ball Championships. Interesting though, despite their reputations, both players suffered two losses so far in this event, the 2017 Make-It-Happen 8-Ball Invitational. One of them will fail again. Let’s see.
Jeremy Jones was with Danny DiLiberto in the booth.

JJ really, really good w/ your commentary in my very limited and questionable opinion. You make a game 9-Ball players may not watch as intently as they should, very interesting and love the 14.1 knowledge from you and Danny D!

Thank you Pat for being the best in the business. This is a long shot but would it be possible to have an invitational bar table 8-ball tournament held in the future? It would be great to watch the greats on the small tables such as Darren, his friend Mick Hill (who is the best 8-ball player according to Darren), Melling/Shaw, Shane, Corey/Skylar/Bergman. It could be a UK vs US type tournament. I think fans would love it. We only got to see Mick Hill play once or twice American pool and it was a true pleasure to watch. Thanks!

Great tip about just taking the longer shot when there are blocking balls creating a small window to allow more travel on the cue ball for position. Blatantly obvious when you say it, but I'm constantly trying to run up for the shorter shot and missing position for the loss when that situation arises. Embarrassingly stupid, but this game does that to you at times if you are not thinking well. Finding a way to approach on the path is obvious, but that one I somehow missed. Also, it seems as if the far side of the window is close to the cushion you statistically have more chance of hitting that window, (working percentages on all aspects of available choices are a MAJOR part of this game) if you play to stop for the middle position going into the rail, but not on the rail, as you get some leeway, except for the short blocked portion of travel if you overrun the mark. With my game at it's current level, I'm often forced to think that way. In fact my best bet, if the portion of travel blocked is very small would be to actually play to stop at the rail, because if I try to do it, it probably isn't going to happen. Obviously the real goal is to work cue ball until you can execute what you are trying to accomplish, but there are only so many practice hours reasonably available in my case. Another thing you've said that helps is looking for the good things/bad things ratios and outcomes likely in a given shot. That one is not so obvious. Your commentary is my favorite in this area. Thanks for that, :-/ It also allows for more control directly when you are trying to stop on a line at a point, or between two points, really.I really don't like the 'take what you make' for amateurs, as I don't think you need to be penalized for converting a break successfully, but for pros it actually makes some sense. It's is often just too easy for them to run out by far most of their games..and that rule keeps it a bit more interesting. They usually say they like increased difficulty from what I've heard from most of them in interviews, so many, if not most of them are likely fine with that rule, as well. Same way I think jump cues are fine, amateur, but I think pros should jump with players cues only. I'm starting to think the push out is crap that needs to disappear for pro tourneys, and personally I'd like to see nine ball called, but I realize there are many that don't agree, and that's fine. Kind of surprising the records called out for this tourney for these two. A bit less when you realize Filler dealt one to each of them. That kid is going to be a phemom, is now actually, but I expect he will only get better, the most likely mode with experience. In this game there really is no substitute for that, and intelligent practice, I've found. The game can be exceedingly frustrating at times, especially when you are not executing at the level you know you are capable of. I find thinking mechanics, mechanics, mechanics, especially staying down in my case, often helps when that occurs. IMHO, they are the thing that reins supreme. And yeah, jacked up sucks, especially if you are highly jacked up, long, as he was there. I've even seen players stack two rests, on rare occasions. Looks iffy, but seems to work, with decent control of the bridges. Aiming also gets more sporty. Just my (probably stupid) two cents, novella format.

1:41:27 the 5 moved, so it's a fault for Darren. He called it half-ass but it's only fair that he lost. And the last run-out is spectacular. Good match.

Why, because you can so readily see it as a video viewer??? Or do you mean from a player's standpoint, when shooting on that line? My only point would be that maybe that the letters don't need to be 'ten feet tall'. If they can't see a clock 1/4 that size, they have no chance playing pool. Seems kind of a nit, though. MHO, they do so much more, and more important stuff, well. And I appreciate the efforts. I expect if it were causing any problems for the players, they would mention it, they certainly don't have a problem mentioning other aspects that do, like spectators doing stupid things on the shot lines, flashes, spastic large movements and the like.

@@AccuStats LOL If that is the level of what people are complaining about, I would take that as a compliment, means you are doing a lot right. :-) I'm not wholly sinless in that area, but my request is at least more pertinent, I think, if not more expensive and logistically problematic. And that is, some computer generated 3D video capability would be a killer addition, if and when you can afford it. It allows spot on looks down the players viewpoint when down on a shot, to a very accurate degree, to see if blockers are in play, etc. Even if just used by the commentators except in those few instances when useful for viewers to see a shot, the 'can we get the right camera angle' instances. Using that, you can ALWAYS get the PERFECT camera angle, in a virtual sense. They use this at the crucible for snooker and it really enhances the viewing. I will see if I can find an instance of it's use and link it, JIC you don't know what I'm talking about. I wish I could help out with a contribution, and may be in a position to do that in the future. If I do, and earmark it for that purpose, would you use it for such, or would it just help cover costs. You know what the right answer is here, even if you are stretching it. :-) I might even know some guys who could help in providing it at a reasonable cost, it would require a god's eye camera placement, though. Doable, practically? Again, easier in a permanent venue, like the crucible (snooker), I'm aware. Thus, the questions.
