Is not easy to use translator for that. It is a cultural thing, you need to live there to understand how people talk, this is a humorous ways of communication like a slang. It could mean both way if someone with bias or ill intend, they could translate it the IGN did. To truly understand what he really means, they will have to look at the whole conversation, setting, who they talk to. I didn't actually buy or get a demo of the Assassins Creed with the Yasuke. I heard and saw posts of people having a problem with the character and those who mentioned race I just skipped over.
