What did you think of Wolf Man? I was so disappointed by it. "Presence" is out on Friday so i'll have a breakdown on that horror movie released on Monday.

Saw it last night. I really enjoyed it for what it is, and I don’t even know if he’s a wolf-man necessarily. Definitely animal like, but the film makes zero mention of wolves - only disease and poisonous mushrooms (which may play a role in this somehow) Whatever Blake turns into, he fights it until the end. There’s humanity in him all the way until the end, even though it’s fading. Some have said he went to attack them in the barn, I think it’s the opposite. I think he just wanted to be close to them in his last moments of humanity. Same as when he chases them through the forest and up the treehouse. He’s got those last breaths of good in him and he wants to just be close to them. He lunges at them because he wanted the pain to end. The father lost all humanity to begin with and wasn’t a good man. Blake was a good man. They never mentioned what happened to the first wolf-man in the beginning that spotted Blake and his father. Some say the movie was slow paced, but I think it went too fast. They could have explored and explained so much more and I wish they did.

The story is heartbreaking and a reminder of the devastating impact of generational trauma. Themes like relationship issues and the breakdown in communication were showcased here. The cycle his dad started, he continued, in spite of his best efforts. I really enjoyed this one. Tragic film, though.

This movie was very good.....I've noticed lately that people say a movie is trash just because everyone else is on that bandwagon and it hurts the move. This was absolutely a good film.

Wow how disappointing these messages are. I found the movie really good . I was pleased with the fact it wasn't visually dark like so many are now , to the point you can't see anything. And they managed to turn the creatures without tons of makeup or cgi. The story line even managed to bring surprises in it like the return of his father. So I applaud them for bringing out a new story that held up. And personally I found Nosferatu dull and boring and too visually dark. So many times you couldn't see anything .

I agree. I just don’t see what was so bad about it. And I’m saying that as a horror fan. But all the reviews are bad for this film so I guess we are in the minority.

@@rutgergullan4595I don’t really think the father twist was a twist at all. I think it was clearly signposted as he’d gone missing and so it was always pretty obvious. Remember we’re watching a film we know contains a wolf man. I think the significance was the main character’s realisation that it was his father.

The movie was great, saw it this pass Saturday and I honestly thought the element of family traumas within the film was good. Yes, it was a horror movie but there were strong elements to it. Go see it, it’s worth it

When I realized his character was essentially “gone” after the breakdown in communication, when he couldn’t understand what his wife and daughter were trying to say to encourage him, I said aloud, “This isn’t scary. This is sad.” He tried his best to break the cycle 😢 I agree, though. I thought it was great, too. Perhaps it hit me in the feels because I understand how generational trauma has negatively impacted my own family.

The only things that bothered me about the film were how the wife “the journalist” found truck keys, a fresh car battery and knew how to jump the thousand year old truck in the driveway. She also knew how to handle and shoot a rifle. Also, when they all ran out of the house to escape in the truck, the wolf man comes out of the darkness, chases them back to the house, the front door was locked. Who locked the front door? Other than those things, the film had me at the edge of my seat. I thought it was good.

I didn't get the difference in power. His dad, after the accident seemed to easily climb the side of the removal truck and smash the window, and then rip Derek apart. Yet for the remainder of the movie they both seemed on the relatively weak side.

Despite the many well-articulated criticisms in the comment section and in this video, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie in theaters. Strange as it sounds, I found the jump scares a refreshing return to tension building horror movies from when I was a teenager. I thought the camera work was brilliant. The symbolism & themes behind the movie script are also profound and relatable to many of us. Personally, I also appreciate the open ended vagueness surrounding the disease. Some are critical that it is not clear what the Wolfman’s weaknesses are and how “wolf” is not mentioned in the movie. There is also the open ended question over what happened to the original Wolfman (the hiker) which I like that there is no conclusion to because it is left up to the audience. Does he still stalk the woods, or did Blake’s dad kill him before becoming infected? Leaves the door open for a sequel which I do not advocate for but I still appreciate the loose ends. The one criticism that I do agree with is I feel as if the plot of the crumbling marriage could have been elaborated on. However, that would have made this film more of a slow burn and I think that would have led to other criticisms. Overall, I loved the film although I respect that it didn’t land with all of the audience.

i thought it was quite difficult to follow. the old wolfman was suddenly gone, it wasn’t particularly clear when Blake had become infected nor was it clear HOW you could become infected. things like that. i also wish there was more of the indigenous peoples lore and a larger focus on wolves. but i did enjoy it overall, the realisation of his transformation when he could no longer understand his family and his teeth falling out was quite disturbing, and i really appreciate the message behind it.

I saw it today and actually enjoyed it. While I def can see that it wasn’t as well written or creative as The Invisible Man, I feel like this is a straightforward horror film that packs its scares and lore in well. I spent the latter third of the film on the edge of my seat. And I would see it again. The reviews are harsher than they have to be on it IMO 🤷🏾‍♂️

Yeah I personally really really enjoyed this movie but I watched this other KZbinr say that if Blumhouse and Leigh Whannell had made this a original werewolf movie unrelated to the Wolfman IP and if they had called this movie Face of the Wolf then people would be way more receptive and accepting of this movie and even as someone that really likes this movie I agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly.

Making the transformation slower, but then cramming it all into a film that takes place across only one night was counter intuitive. That and the laughable script reveals, lack of plot and character development and the hilarious wide eyed "I'm scared" reaction acting left me laughing whilst watching this film. And the cinematography? Add a little moonlight here and there dude, much of it was so dark it was intolerable. More laughs than gasps of horror from the audience when we saw it and we counted over 40 audience members got up and left. We too left when we saw that he had lost a leg, then mysteriously regrew it as he approached to climb up the deer hunting stand, then was back to one leg again after he was shot and was laying on the floor haha😂. I mean, that's horrendous attention to detail.

I thought the movie was good. I didn't feel the couple were on the verge of divorce, just needed to spend more time together, hence the trip to Oregon. The father had been a werewolf longer so certain details about how to get around the house were forgotten. Plus you answered your own question regarding the daytime nighttime thing. You're in danger either way but during daylight, you have a chance of seeing the werewolf before it sees you.

I will say that I will give them a C for using Practical Effects instead of CGI and I just have some things to say about The Universal Monsters and I have nothing against Reboots/Remakes as long as they are done and bear with me for this will be long. The 2010 Remake should've been THE 1st film for The Dark Universe followed by Dracula Untold as the 2nd, with the 2010 Remake they should've stayed with The Practical Effects instead of CGI because that made Rick Baker retire from Hollywood and as for Dracula Untold, they should've made it Rated R Horror with violence on par with Game of Thrones and had Luke Evans' Dracula as a Ruthless Tyrant who would later on become a Vampire. As for The Mummy they should've had it all about Sofia Boutella instead of that Circus Midget because there was no need to get him.

I came out of the movie thinking it was okay. As I read more and more reviews, I liked the movie less. As I was watching this, I couldn't help but wonder if this movie would have been better without the 30 year time jump and instead been a story of Blake and his father against a Wolf Man and then if they wanted to do a sequel, they could use the time jump and tackle thematic elements (generational trauma). Of the other films I've seen from Leigh Whannell (Upgrade & The Invisible Man), this is my least favourite.

I thought the movie was pretty good! It was pretty intense and I do like how they added enough different things to the werewolf genre to make it seem fresh; mainly the slow prolonged transformation and especially how they handled the wolf man POV scenes. In regard to the wolf man being able to access the house from the rooftop, he was still transforming and hasn’t gone full mindless savage beast yet. I thought the acting was good, not amazing, and do agree it had potential for some good tear jerker moments but couldn’t quite get there. Overall a solid B in my book and worth watching in the theaters. Great atmosphere and I thought the sound production was noteworthy.

Really enjoyed this film . It had a lot of jump scares and was rather predictable . It had references to the fly 🪰 and the 2010 Wolfman . Like the idea of seeing things from the creatures point of view , who he slowly lost his humanity but not completely . In the end he just wanted to reach out to his family . But he sacrificed himself to save his daughter .

Watched this movie today 01/20/2025 and i gotta say this. The design is more reminiscing of a zombie than an actual wolfman👎🏾 and ca we actually stop with the empowered woman crap 👎🏾👎🏾 (A complete city girl applying bandages and shooting a rifle for the first time in her life like a pro is really dumb. All and all not that bad of a movie

I was starting to watch Nosferatu and was starting to fall asleep. Then put this on. I liked it. I liked the use of very little dialogue and storytelling through a lens. I also like the subtle performances by all three actors. The plot was weak I admit, but it allowed the story to isolate on the few hours they all had left. Also, the change of scene from the audiences to his vantage point was clever. The sounds he heard. I was disappointed those qualities weren't further explored as the movie hit it's climax point. but overall, I'd give it a B-.
