I like Taylor Kitsch, Kind of had Terminal List vibes when I saw Jai Courtney, if only Chris Pratt was here this would of been even more Epic. The main girl was kinda, too entitled, at the start. Sad it took what it did before she realized how the Wild West actually worked. Those French Hillbillies where terrifying. If S02 happens, I wonder if Sara will make it California? What we learned, even a group of 70 mostly well armed settlers can take a turn for the worst. It will be interesting to see how a solo mother with 2 kids adapts to the realities pf travelling the Oregon Trail. I really like this history of the old west. Taylor Sheridan is a good writer and I also enjoyed 1883.

I loved the show top to bottom. The cinematography was amazing. The performances were top notch. The pacing. I didn't mean to spend my morning off bingeing this show, but I did, and I'm not mad about it. That said, I feel like the kiss could've been justified, had she kissed him, impulsively.

I don’t think it was about romance I think it was about two people connecting that have been disconnected. The relationship between Isaac and Sarah was two people that absolutely hated each other, from different worlds, different ideologies, different privileges. And I just loved how they pulled no punches with any sort of modern filmmaking to make Isaac look emasculated. This show made a true nature for that time peried. It showed that regardless of inner strength maybe you don’t make it because it’s cruel and harsh out there and if you don’t come well equipped and educated about the land and able to have a extremely hard demeanor you probably won’t see the end of the week. I was honestly expecting them to have Isaac wounded and have Sarah pull him halfway through the rest of the show or something. But they didn’t, they surprise me they actually made a balanced film and if this movie does not get some awards I’ll be shocked! But the kiss between Isaac and Sarah was because these people had not felt anything in so long that just having that connection, feeling like you can trust someone again that you care about someone, that’s what it was I don’t think it had anything to do with romance, she liked him and I think that she saw he was a good fit for a father figure because he cared about Devin. But I don’t think it was a Daniel steel novel by any means.

SPOILERS AHEAD I have a question about Pratt. In the final Episode we see the battle between Red Feather and Mormons. Prior to that we see Pratt at the Mormons as they get ready for the battle. Some of the guys pull out these white maske as worn during the attack in Episode 1. Pratt knows cook took the watch from William and can remember the battle. Cook was at the battle, Cook was part of these mormons ( i recall this was told as Pratt came back to the mormon camp). So how didnt he figure out these mormons were the attackers and still joined battle etc. ? Was he still convinced the shoshone were behind the attack?
@Mantus77
@Mantus77 15 күн бұрын
That’s a good question. I think at that point he was just wanting to die in battle, as far as he was concerned he had killed his wife’s murderers. Maybe he thought that Cook did it on his own? I’m not sure but I thought the same as you when he had come back and joined them for battle.

Their kiss didn’t feel romantic. She didn’t want him to go because he was their fearless protector, and a part of him probably wanted to start anew but he couldn’t let go of his past. I appreciate your review and I agree with most of it BUT I disagree about your take on the relationship for the 2 main characters. I felt that their relationship grew naturally over the course of their journey. They didn't like or trust either other for the first 2/3 of the series. He saw his family in them and they grew to see him as the leader and protector of their little group. I'm not saying the show needed them to fall in love but I thought it was a natural evolution of their relationship. I would have loved to see them head off to California together to end the show. I did not like him being killed by that young kid after coming through so many situations that were way more dangerous.

It’s definitely a must watch, from the get go it was intense and drew me in right away. I really did feel like it’s given one of the best insights (cinematically) into the settlement of the white people trying to navigate their way through American lands. The story line was good and based on history. Only downfall was Sara just pissing me off throughout the entire show (but she’s a kick-ass actress love her) she just thought she knew everything like girl, 🤦🏽‍♀️lol and the ending was a bit disappointing but I do hope there’s another series but then this show is based on historical events so I don’t see how a second season could tie any historical events in with the show…

Production value, impeccable. But maaaannn wayyyyy to many inaccuracies. Huge disservice to Mormons by grouping the whole in with a small minority of murders. It also made what the rogue Nauvoo Legion Danites led by Lee much less shocking and horrible. Also did a HUGE disservice to Jim Bridger. They made one of the most badass mountain men of the west into a virtual pushover nobody. Smh. They also made the rest of the Nauvoo Legion seem too powerful, killing an entire native village and US Army regiment. Making the mormon Militia seem more legit and powerful than they ever were. They also didn't make Wild Bill Hickman evil enough. That guy was CRAZY. Bank robbery, stage coach robbery, horse thief, cattle rustler, he murdered a US representative just to steal his wagon and horses to sell it. He was a bad dude and the show made him seem weak. I mean, seriously. Hickman led a gang called the Hounds and terrorized the intermountain west for years and they portray him like a little bitch. S. M. H. Still great show in my opinion. If you like gritty westerns this is perfect.

FYI. Since people are looking at this and thinking this is accurate history, The information about Brigham Young and "mormon" involvement as well as the Native American portrayal and even the US military are highly fictionalized characterizations that are not very accurate. While historical fiction can be illuminating, this drama is extremely misleading. Admittedly most people aren't historians, but that doesn't mean misrepresentation is, therefore, OK. It can affect us. There's an ethical responsibility to avoid gross misrepresentations that can perpetuate harmful stereotypes or misinformation. The line between entertainment and education often blurs, especially when viewers might take the depiction as factual. Dramatization should not come at the cost of promoting falsehoods that could lead to misunderstanding or prejudice. Brigham Young, is, by any historical standard, egregiously mischaracterized as a villainous, violent fanatic. A deeper look is required to understand what he was really like, Historical figures like Brigham Young indeed have complex legacies. While it's true that no historical figure should be whitewashed, Simplifying his character into a one-dimensional villain not only misrepresents history but also misses an opportunity to explore human complexity. Other individuals and groups are also depicted in ways that reinforce stereotypes that are both inaccurate and harmful. Natives while living a paradigm that wasn't compatible with the encroaching settlers, were generally a peace seeking people, that struggled with the inevitable overrun of colonization. the incidents between settlers and Natives were usually isolated and the Natives almost always were the losers highlighted by the January 29, 1863, Bear Rive Massacre perpetuated by the US military slaughtering up to 300 members of the Shone tribe in Southern Idaho in retaliation for a couple of miners killed on the trail by some rogue native braves. The Mountain Meadows Massacre, which the series inaccurately portrays as reflective of a whole faith group, happening over three hundred miles away from anything depicted in the show and was a isolated tragedy perpetrated by an unauthorized group against the wishes of the Mormon leadership (that only found out about it after the fact). The LDS Church has long acknowledged and condemned this horrific tragedy. It has also taken significant steps to uncover and share the full truth of what happened and promote healing. Fort Bridger was purchased by the LDS church 2 years before the events depicted, and was reluctantly burned down as a guerrilla tactic (along with many other nonviolent tactics like stealing cattle, food, supplies etc...) to slow the large group of approaching US military. The tactics worked as the US military were slowed enough to force them to camp for the winter before they could approach Salt Lake Valley and majority of the Mormons, Which then allowed for a meeting of Government and Utah leadership that resolved the conflict peacefully without more violence. The problem with such deceptive, graphic and sensationalized storytelling is that it not only obscures reality and hinders genuine understanding but can foster animosity, hate and even violence. This is particularly troubling today when peacemakers are needed more than ever.

American Primeval is absolutely exceptional viewing & it leaves you wanting more. It's absolutely fantastic & it grabs you & holds on from the first few mins of episode 1. He received a letter from the local leaders about what to do with the wagon train and then immediately sent a response back telling them to let the wagon train go in peace. That letter didn’t make it until two days after the massacre took place. We have been taught to treat others as Christ would have. Unfortunately, some people have let fear dictate their actions and caused them to do unjust things. The Church does not deny that members of the Church did do this heinous act.

That’s exactly right. They totally misrepresented Young’s role in the murders. He had nothing to do with any of it. The Mormon militia overreacted out of fear.

I understand about the true faith in the church that the church is true but the people are not but as to this event I am 51 and I have never been told about it never learned about it I know B.Y. had nothing to do with it that it was the acts of the people not the church and fear caused the evil that took place, but still I wonder why we were not taught about our history as to not repeat it as we were growing up? also it is sad movies like this spread so much disinformation about the church even when the producer was at one time a morman.

Fort Bridger was taken over by the Mormons 2 years before the massacre. Mormons never went into battle with the US Army. Why not just tell the real history than stir everyone up into anger through fiction. People really believe what they see on tv

I loved this series but it’s brutal to watch sometimes. I did do a deep dive into the real life massacre and I think this series puts Brigham in a horrible light that’s not based on what really happened. I loved Betty Gilpin in it. I also love the way the Indians were portrayed.
@dbat480
@dbat480 12 күн бұрын
Yeah agreed. They made Brigham a mastermind of something he didn't really have any involvement in. And the actual massacre, in my opinion, is much worse than what was displayed in the show. Tricking the wagon train into trusting the Militia, disarming them, promising them food and shelter in cedar city, all for the Militia to turn their weapons on the unsuspecting and unarmed people and kill them in cold blood. That is about 100 time worse than what the show portrayed.

American Primeval 2025 ‧ Western ‧ First episode date: January 9th, 2025. 1st season on Netflix. My perspective on this series: This series makes the Mormons in Utah look bad! And I know they were hunted and killed and pushed from the east coast all the way to Salt Lake City. But this series portrays them as holding down the Utah territory, as they hunt and brutally killed everyone in the Utah region. That’s what I got from watching this. It makes them look like cultish barbarian killers. I wonder if that’s how it was. After watching all 6 episodes, it makes me really dislike Mormonism!!

I watched the Jack Carr/Peter Berg interview about the series. It can mainly be summed up with "bodies hitting bodies," similar to the Seal Movie about guys on a mountain. Brutal, honest and tough to watch humans doing those things to other humans. We've strayed away from the natural world, movies like this connect us to our violent past.

Worth watching, but personally I felt a little disappointed. The teaser had a "Blood Meridian" feel that really got me interested, but in the end, especially in the final episode I felt like the huge potential of the subject was lost and rushed. It really lacked the kind of "evil" that a character like The Swede brought to life in Hell on Wheels.

The series never claimed to be based on real history. It’s very very loosely based on the Meadows Massacre. I don’t appreciate how they misrepresented Brigham Young. But MormonMilitia did murder those immigrant settlers, something the LDS accepts and has worked hard to make amends for.

Usually when Netflix depicts r*pe they do huge injustice to survivors with clumsy portrayals of the pitch dark feelings involved, often glamourising both the perp and the situation, or prolonging graphic portrayals in a sick voyeuristic way. In AP i really appreciate how it was handled, and it was nescessary to show as brutal abuse of women from all sides often clouds how we see history when deciding heros and villains (when someone is seen as a vessel for dumping adrennaline, resentment and weak power lust, everyone is a villain, regardless of colour, religion, belief or nationality; example, im Irish and understand irish history and the wars, but do not see heros as it was far too common for those heros to beat and r*pe their wives after stress of war, so whose freedom was being fought for really? And the effect of naming heros and freedom fighters builds egos in these cultures, and those egos turn those heros into the shape of the villians they claim to oppose...anyhoo...). In AP the natives, the french and the mormons were seen at different times to use women as objects, but at no stage did i feel any of the women were portrayed as weak, yeilding, or pseudo seductive (ie no hyperglamourisation of fear, emotion or the overall character as merely being a woman who has been used by men). Apologies for bit of a rant but im often highly anxious about starting any brutal series when i know r*pe will feature in case it feels like being spat on by the civilised and 'beyond that savagery' tmodern directors, who gaslight us into believing they are including cobtext when in truth are promoting their own heinous idealisms.
