The coax line length being better at 50 feet versus 25 feet means the antenna system us using the coax as part of the antenna rather than just a feedline.

The Protection Cover on the IC-7300 I like a lot. It saves your radio from scratches they might be caused by external SWR Meter, antenna tuners or by a mug of coffee being parked on the Lid.

Great video - I like the Wolf River coil as well. I keep the MFJ-1979 in a 1 inch pvc pipe tube with rubber caps on the ends to protect the whip from damage during travel. It seems to work well.

Just bought the wrc TIA 1000 with the mega tripod. I did purchase the additional collar for $15 so you can have like you mentioned two bands ready to go. So same coil and two collars just move one wire to the collar that corresponds band the band you have set. Unless you want multiple coils.

I ruined a PL-259 connector on the base of my mini tripod because the connection was too tight. I had to use a crimp tool to pull the connector out, and in the process the center pin & teflon were pulled out of the coax about 1/2 inch. Since there was no way to push it back in, I had to cut the PL-259 off and solder a new connector. After that I decided to use a right angle PL-259 to SO-239 adapter. I don't mind if it stays on the WRC tripod, and I know my coax won't get stuck inside the adapter. 73 KD5YOU

Good video. I'm thinking of getting the Silver Bullet Mini, seems like a good portable antenna. A couple of questions, what arrangement of the coil and radials do you use for 10 meters? Also, what type of coax do you use? RG58, RG8X, RG8U, ...? Thanks a lot!
@doc1454 ай бұрын
You don’t need a coil for 10 meters. A 1/4 wave is 2.5 m or about 8ft. Just put a wire or whip at 8ft, add about 6 radials at 8 ft or longer and you’re done. If you want to go the raised radial route then they must be tuned. There are many YT vids explaining antenna theory. Try K4OGO. Walt. Guy operates portable and explains the types of antennas he uses. Also, read as much as you can. It makes a massive difference.

What's the difference between 1000 and mini
@kd5you1 Жыл бұрын
The 1000 will work with 80 meters, and the mini works down to 40 meters. The mini might do 60 meters but I'd have to test it to be sure.
@ib1rcnut2 жыл бұрын
Why did you use 8ft ground radicals instead of the 34 foot lengths
@kg2mmhamradio2 жыл бұрын
I use the shorter radials for a smaller footprint, Ultimately it is the same amount of wire on the ground sometimes more.

It's for the HF bands. Check out J-Pole for 2m/70cm. I bought mine from WB9VBR (www.jpole-antenna.com/). Here is the link to how much it will cost you. www.wolfrivercoils.com/order.html Also, the replacement whip, MFJ1979 is separate and you cant price check with the online ham stores.

WD40 is not made for a lube. It is a Water Displacement. Yes it works as a lube, but it was made for NASA because they had trouble with water getting into everything. I would put WD40 on everything, and wipe off. Some will stay to protect. In Florida we get lots of rain, and very high humidity. Water gets into everything! I am about 60 miles north of Palm Beach. On the ground radioes, Anderson power poles for the connections Just some thoughts. If you like them run with them. If you don't like, just flush it with any other crap you don't like. 73. de W4DES
