Nice to see different operators. I give it a thumbs up. For me , I am going to stick with the World's Smallest Splitter. Big reason is having to have my thumb rebuilt by a plastic surgeon, after hand splitting ash and I hit a knot. The surgeon made my limitations perfectly clear. My depth perception is also a half a bubble off. Let's just say I know my limits. Great machine. Love the electric start. No flying ball bearings or holding the starter rope in your hand.

I would have to use them both a lot more to find that out. My ULTRA is faster and more efficient for the right size wood.

Nice splitter appears to be a very well built machine that would benifit from a power up-grade as an extra cost option if user is splitting large rounds regularly. I have always felt that for splitters a foot pedal adds risk for operator safety to machine by allowing both hands to be in the splitting area during a split cycle. If any company made the splitting deck out of a polished stainless non rusting steel as an extra cost option would probably add to sales. Trailer for a small machine is as well built as any I've seen for any type of towable piece of equipment, that swinging tongue neck is innovative and allows for a much smaller footprint for storing and some additional line-up flexability during/for hook-up. Great demo video, If my company made equipment types that you use I would try to get a demo machine to you to make a video of my machine in use. Ray

Tell her it's an investment. You make $ selling the wood. It holds its value or even goes up in value bc of how ridiculous inflation is. U can split wood for other people by the hour or even rent it out. You can't lose $ on it. It's an investment not a throw away purchase like buying a new car and losing 10% of its value as soon as u drive away from the dealership.

I think they need to take another look at the log lift design. My splitter is a 3 point hitch tractor mounted hydraulic (Split-Fire), so the bed is only about waist high, but my log lift is designed so the lip lies flat against the ground when fully down. On a big, heavy round I can roll it onto the lift without lifting. On more reasonable ones, I leave the lift slightly raised, and pile on 3-7 pieces at a time. Makes a big difference for a 67 year old guy with MS...

Watched one video of someone that put temperature probes all over a small honda, it ran about 20F cooler with the rope starter removed. With the engine protected like it is, would help it stay cool. . He also did a test running a engine oil cooler, using the 2 oil drain plugs, that definitely reduced temps as well. Return oil was a little under 200F i think.

V17 = 17 HP not enough?
@byronmillКүн бұрын
The 17 stands for 17 tons of splitting force. Horsepower doesn't split wood, The amount of force from the hydraulic cylinder and the angle of the splitting wedge does that.
@DanielAtkinsFirewoodКүн бұрын
My SHO is 22hp but has 35 tons of splitting force from the ram. The HP part of it is what's needed to move the hydraulic pump. It's kind of like when you buy a generator. The bigger the generator, the more HP is needed to run at its peak performance
@byronmillКүн бұрын
@@DanielAtkinsFirewood Yes, a certain amount of horsepower is required depending upon the specific pump used. However if you put a 40 horsepower engine on the pump and change nothing else it's not going to split any better. And depending upon the pump you may get the same splitting force with an 18 horsepower engine. The point is, horsepower alone does not determine splitting force.
@DanielAtkinsFirewoodКүн бұрын
@byronmill : Yes, you have that right. I am having this discussion with guys in the Mazda Rotary world. Mazda is supposed to be coming out with a Verizon of the Tesla with a Rotary Engine. Basically, this car is a Tesla with an built-in Generator to change batteries. And the Rotary Engine guys want to start porting it for more power, but in the wake of that, you will lose the efficiency.
@InTheWoodyard5 сағат бұрын
It is plenty, that chunk of knotty locust was a nasty one. My Ultra has 14 tons and can split 99% of the wood I throw at it.
@davewarrender2056Күн бұрын
Don't they supply 4 0r 6 way splitters , having repeatedly split the same wood to get it smaller is a false economy , it costs more time , more fuel , more wear on components
@earlzathomeКүн бұрын
No different than a horizontal with a single wedge....other than you don't have to reach over and grab every piece to resplit , just spin the round.
@InTheWoodyard20 сағат бұрын
Not when you can rotate the wood for additional splits. Single wedges are way neater and precise with less debris.
