Ultimately its them trying to reinvent the Gigantimax hype which is just them copy-pasting Mega evolutions into Dynamax. Where even that goes as far to have some `special` dynamax moves and/or animations tied to them to add to the fluff bait when they either are gonna be wastefully stupid on asset recycling by getting rid of it by the next mainline game or just use it as a `testing grounds` to shove it back in later when they get to a certain remake and call it an alternate reality, just like how ORAS got mega evolutions because it was a different place from R/S to further get away with the whole rainbow rocket gag in US/UM. Im very sure plenty of people are just sick and tired of them constantly axing previous mechanics that may of been present for even less then a year for some of them, even having way too many pokemon that had to bank on the gimmick including older pokemon to boost them into relevanacy and constantly force players to abandon previous team comps, where they arent even hiding the fact they will drastically buff/nerf abilities/moves/pokemon each generation like its a MOBA, which further takes away the appeal of childhood favorites. At this point, Pokemon is the same as Yugioh in more ways then one, they try to huck in new gimmicks in so often, they get lazier with it that they ignore previous balancing reasons and break the game with the stuff they originally were against adding in. Thought since Pokemon would of likely hard-capped only having one specific gimmick avail to a player at a time if they actually LEFT the older gimmicks in, instead of removing them each version. It would of then result in players figuring out exploits with older gimmicks and newer pokemon that could ruin the game, especially the competitive scene when someone could take a particular pokemon, use a newer gimmick and then it turns them into a unstoppable beast that just sweeps everything. At this point, Pokemon just needs to `reboot` into a Classic generation where no more special state gimmicks are added in (basically would be like Gen 1 thru 4 for the most part) and kept vanilla and then have a different sub-generation where that one has all the gimmicks and just have it where the older gimmicks return via post-game completion to let the competitive players have freaking fun, just like how alot of the hand-held console games handled it with stuff like battle frontier and what not.

I think that Ditto works well for it. The problem with picking a tera type for a ditto is that you don't know what pokemon you are going to become until you switch out the ditto, so your prediction of a type could go to waste due to it either not having a move that matches your offensive tera type or being a better type combo than your tera. Ditto also doesn't have alot of hp so it won't always last as long as you may want. With the stellar type, you don't have to mess up your typing, and you can get in a few really strong hits before fainting. Keep in mind I am not an expert in Pokemon, especially competitively, so if you can prove me wrong, do it.

The problem there is that dittos only ever good when restricted pokemon are on the field, as any other pokemon is usually better brought yourself, and only ever if there's only 1 restricted pokemon allowed. That, and since GF was inevitably going to get to the point where it's not feasible to include every single mon, they could easily shuffle around what megas are actually available every gen as well. The generic stone would of course be a constant so GF doesn't necessarily need to give a mon a mega, but still let it participate and leave room for a possible true mega in the future. A true mega would be the more drastic and "optimized" form while the generic stone is more of a stat pump to help out mons who are _almost_ good or need that small nudge to be usable. In competitive, it doesn't do much. When doing raids, it works differently since it's damage boosts are unlimited, allowing Pokémon with coverage to use it at will. You could also use a Pokémon with Contrary in these raids to use Stellar Tera Blast, where you'll constantly put out guaranteed super effective damage no matter what whilst buffing your own attack. But even from there, it all feels kind of underwhelming. My two proposed changes are: 1. Stellar boosts do not run out, but you need to alternate between types. If you used Flamethrower, you will not get a boost on Fire-type attacks until you use an attack of a different types. OR 2. Stellar overrides defensive properties, effectively removing both your resistances and weaknesses.

You're high if you think the pokemon types were balanced before Fairy type was added; poison was virtually useless as a type, psychic was ludicrously OP for years even against the ghost types that were supposed to be strong against them, dragons were very non-existent due to their OP nature requiring rarity, ice was extremely rare and the only real way to counter dragons which made most endgames turn into hours of grinding low level ice pokemon you were finally able to catch basically outside the pokemon league. Fairy gave purpose to poison, and has allowed much more dragons to exist not just in the game, but throughout the games so finally training a dragon doesn't become its own painfully long side quest in the second half of a pokemon game

I have to agree that Tera stellar is bad, but only in a competitive context since it's best use is in Tera Raids and the best user is Arceus because of the 17 plates, but I sincerely have to thank your dual type tier list since every single dual type you rated as B or higher does really well in 6 star raids and could even do fine with 7 stars since Unrivaled Decidueye & Iron Bundle are the only 7 star raids so far that I've used Stellar Arceus on to adapt it's Poison or Steel plate,but on the B rank or higher dual types I now made Tera Stellar can now cover 2 types effectively AND keep the defensive perks of their combination, except for those with a 4x weakness, but that's an acceptable drawback.

The thing about the fairy type is that it was eventually made more balanced just by being worked on over the last decade. And yeah, it’s still really powerful but so is Dragon type and, to an extent, ghost type.
@Eclipsed_Embers7 ай бұрын
one slight counterpoint here is that the Dragon type itself wasn't what was powerful, it was the pokemon that happened to be Dragon type. for a long time (gen 5 was the first point where they started to move away from this but it really increased once we hit gen 6, by which point Fairy type had already been added) Dragon type was basically reserved only for pseudo-legendary and legendary pokemon (from gen 1 to gen 5 the only dragon type pokemon that weren't legendary or pseudo-legendary were Kingdra (gen 2), Vibrava, Flygon and Altaria (gen 3), Axew, Fraxure, Haxorus, and Druddigon (gen 5). 8 pokemon split between 5 evolution trees), pokemon which naturally tend to be on the more powerful side of things. offensively Dragon type has always been pathetic. it's only strong against other Dragons, it's resisted by Steel, and since Fairy's introduction it's had no effect on Fairies. defensively it wasn't exactly a type to write home about either. 2 weaknesses (itself and ice), 4 resistances (fire, water, grass, and electric), 0 immunities. Dragon type was nothing special, it was just slapped onto a lot of very special pokemon, even now it's still primarily slapped onto naturally stronger Pokemon that would probably do just fine without it (one could even argue that since Fairy's introduction many of those strong Pokemon would be better off without the Dragon typing).
@RoninCatholic7 ай бұрын
@@Eclipsed_Embers Dragon was always a really, really good type by resisting four of the most common special attacking types (okay, three common plus my personal favorite, Grass) and only having two weaknesses (itself and Ice). Give typical early game fodder like an early bird, three stage rapid evolve bug, or regional rodent the Dragon type and even with the same low BST it's better than it'd have been as bug, normal, or flying type because dragon is just a better type than normal outside of Gen 1. Dragon needed a hard counter, because Dragon type attacks were almost never resisted (Steel types only). Between being neutral offensively, lots of powerful moves from gen 3 onward, and being a defensive juggernaut only outpaced by Steel and Ghost, Fairy was a necessary addition to the game.

I didn't find anyone else bringing this suggestion up, regarding the "fixing Stellar" segment, but I was wondering: why not have it so Tera-Stellar boosts every move by 25%, and _without_ losing the Stellar boost after using that move type? That was the big sticking point with it, right: that the boost was gone after using the attack-and that boost wasn't even as good as traditional Tera, anyway? Couldn't maintaining that minor boost during the Tera make it a more considerable option? For one, it would decomplicate/declutter the mechanic a little. There's less rules around it to deal with, basically. It's effectively solidifying Stellar's presentation as a "jack of all trades, master of none" type, with the caveat of Stellar being super-effective against Tera. Stellar is basically all the types, but its lack of specialization means it won't be as impactful as the rest of the types-that would be an easy enough explanation for players to grasp and remember. It's also why I suggest buffing the non-STABs to a non-ephemeral 25%, because that's simple enough to explain, too-that it boosts every type, but only _half_ as well as other Tera types. Plus, it gets rid of the rule stating "every attack type gets buffed, but after you use a non-Stellar attack in Stellar mode, that type loses the boost." I honestly think that rule needlessly complicates the Stellar type. This then means Terapagos won't be the only one to maintain the non-STAB boosts in Tera mode, which is another rule gone-basically, streamlining the Stellar mechanic. Next, giving Tera-Stellar a persistent half-boost means certain players might seriously consider it for offense if they care more about making _all_ of a Pokémon's moves better, rather than focusing on one attack type being the strongest. It's kind of like the Expert Belt or the Wise Glasses in that way: their effects are nowhere near as powerful as Choice Band/Specs, but they're still available for any player running a Pokémon with a varied spread of attack types, that cares more about just having somewhat better attacks all around, without worrying about being locked into one option. So, in terms of offense, Stellar would not be a particularly strong type, but it now becomes a choice for players who like keeping their options open-it fits their play style, basically.
@Lokisif347 ай бұрын
Well yeah pretty reasonable, or honestly you can go the other way and make the values extreme so it's a hail Mary one use type of effect. Not to the level z moves were, but enough for it to at least be anti terra tech (which it kind of if you squint hard enough already is)
@neoqwerty7 ай бұрын
Another possibility would be to keep the messy "loses the stellar boost when used in Stellar mode", but to TRANSFER IT to defense: you lose the offense of that specific type, but you gain defense on said type in exchange. It'd mechanically work similar to Kecleon's Color Change or the Porygon line's Conversion(2), with the extra type boost transferring from attack to defense when you attack with it. You'd still lose the attack boost, but gain something to make up for the loss. Possibly could also have like... being hit by a type you have that's "stellar-defended" flipping it back to the attack boost instead of the defense one, which would make multi-hit attacks get through stellar-boosted defenses, since the first hit triggers the swap, and you get un-defended damage for the rest of the chain. (though that part would definitely need more finagling)
@roguecloud56747 ай бұрын
Maybe give it a very small resistance to all types or alternatively give it resistance to tera boosted moves.
@Lokisif346 ай бұрын
@@neoqwerty Super late but Yeah. However then top tier get more annoying, since they get a defense boost on top of blowing you back out if they played right Not to mention the typing would make super effective moves impossible on said mon. Plus getting the right type of moves to actually use said defensive option is a headache to luck dependent at the worst. Would lead to wackier combos, but overall not significant enough i don't think.

Suppose it also helps that the boosts last for the entire duration of the raid and not just once-per battle; the more I think about it, the more it seems like Stellar's moreso meant for coop raiders than competitive PvP-ers.

I think Terapagos is a fine Pokemon. It'd prefer more Pokemon like it rather than "big attack go brr" monsters like Miraidon.

Hearing the words "10" years ago for 2014 hit me harder than a choice spec'd draco meteor I actually agree that the Stellar type being weaker than regular ones is fitting cuz of how neutral damage worked in games like FGO and other gacha games

The only time I've ever seen Stellar outpace a normal tera is with Serperior, a Pokemon who you really wouldn't ever use in doubles. In singles it's contrary ability giving it a +1 boost to both offensive stats every time you click a 100 power move that can't be resisted wasn't too bad, especially with all of the coverage it likes to run like dragon pulse. Leaf storm further taking advantage of the tera and of contrary made Serperior a surprisingly funny set up sweeper, but still not the greatest pick for a team.

There's just so many throwaway mechanics that are never revisited. I wish they made a pPokemon game which brought back things like mega evolution, Z moves, Dyna maxing, etc and letting them interact.

Im just gonna completely ignore the existence of Stellar type. When Fairy was added, it was SUCH a big deal. It was all over the marketing and was TREATED as a big deal! I mean, the last type added was in Gold and Silver with Dark and Steel! Stellar just.. was underwhelming and not treated they way it shouldve been. A new type should be a permanent change to the game, not a gimmick.
@lilwhitney51747 ай бұрын
Wolfy now that Scarlet and Violet has been out for some time you should do a video recapping tera as a mechanic. How it compares to other mechanics both in a matter of how fun it is to use and in how impactful it is when compared to the previous mechanics. Also a recap on which pokemon have benefited from it the most and which have been underwhelming, as well as the most frequent ways it has been used. Personally I really like tera and I think it fits really fluidly into completive Pokémon as a short burst of momentum or a long term walling. Thanks for the burst of videos lately!

The fsct that you dont change types is what kills it, with stab mons like flutter, urshifu or ursaluna you are looaing your secondary type wich removes a LOT of weakneses

It’d be neat if Stellar type worked on a Last Resort style system, or perhaps an inverse. Basically, you need to use all your stellar boosted moves before you refresh. Either that or you need to use a non-stellar boosted move to refresh them all. This seems too good a buff… until you realize a. You only get to have 1 type of move, and b. It makes your damage variable and inconsistent, which makes it harder to plan around.

There is the obvious outlier with Contrary users getting an attack and special attack up by using stellar Tera blast. If they gave another stellar type move but was supportive like with grassy terrain or weather moves it could’ve been decent.
@joviridian76367 ай бұрын
I think a cool way they could have gone with the Stellar Type is to have it work for every type until that specific type is used. So when terastalizing into Stellar, defensively, you get hit by every type of effect neutrally but only for the first hit of that type, every successive hit by a move of the same type would have the normal interaction, and offensively you get a normal tera boost for every type until used. And then those two would be shared, so for example, you would lose a dragon type damage boost when first hit by a dragon type move and you would lose protection from your grass type defensive interaction when first using a grass type move.
