Hey everyone - One other piece that immediately came to mind, when I was thinking about MIDI for piano pieces, was Mozart’s Sonata No. 17 in B-flat Major, KV 570. This is actually my favorite sonata out of his many for its generally peaceful and reflective atmosphere. I first heard this piece via American pianist William Kapell’s recording and immediately grew to love the piece as a whole, especially the Adagio movement. It’s also evident that Kapell took a liking for that movement as people found more than one recording of that movement from Kapell’s sadly short lifetime. I personally was able to practice and perform the first two movements of this piece, something that I continue to cherish. This MIDI was originally sequenced by Katsuhiro Oguri (performed live on his keyboard) and I made modifications by lowering the volume holistically (velocity in MIDI term) slightly to avoid the computerized harshness of sound with the notes that have very high velocities, usually found in forte or fortissimo sections. Katsuhiro chose to not play the repeats so everything is performed once. I recently discovered that I could route MIDI data through my Yamaha digital keyboard to playback using the keyboard’s piano sound which is based off of the actual Yamaha CFX concert grand piano. This is a big deal for me because the primary reason I chose to buy Yamaha P-225 is for its piano sound that I felt was the most natural out of all keyboards that I had researched or tested.
