Be prepared for people down here to call you to a butthurt Sonic fan (if it'll happen, that is). Anyways, at the end of the day, Death Battle shouldn't be taken *too* seriously and personal. They're a *fan-made* video series after all. This and their other episodes are really subjective in nature despite the research put into them; the many debunk and rant videos prove that (whether they're justified or not). Their word is not gospel, people. And yes, technically they are tied on the Death Battle show (since this is confirmed to a *rematch* and not a redo/remake. Get it right, people.) ,which I'm okay with. Their both my #1 favorite anyway.

J.R. the Mustached Mirador thank you! Someone finally put it into words! My only gripe with “that” part of the community is the debunk videos in general. If they don’t believe in Death Battle’s analysts, then why do they keep coming back? I’ll tell you why. They’re stung by the fact that people believe Screwattack’s unofficial research to be official. Effort doesn’t equal perfection, so I can see that they’re wrong from time to time in spite of their effort. That doesn’t mean I’ll lose sleep over it, unlike some people apparently. People learn not to bat an eye when their heroes do the physically impossible, so why can’t they learn to not bat an eye when the hypothetically impossible happens to their heroes? Don’t they know what “Hypothetical” means? That’s Death Battle in a nutshell. What would happen “if” these two fought? Not when, *if*. Until the day comes when Mario and Sonic fight each other in an official Nintendo/Sega game that’s not a party game, I’ll treat this as it’s meant to be treated. Simple and fun entertainment.

Well, fanmade or not, math is math. If the math shows a character is more likely to win over the other, it really does not matter if its fanmade or "official", which is why people take them so seriously. And many if not most of the debunk videos are from people who are salty and tend to cherry pick the facts.

"Any official material counts, so long as it's supported by the games, otherwise we'd be ignoring a huge majority of the character's history." Archie Sonic and Paper Mario are not supported by the games. Plus, they didn't even get Mario's best feats from non canon material. Strength was calculated from Super Mario World, which is canon. Reaction speed was calculated from Mario & Luigi Dream Team, which is canon. Durability was calculated from Super Mario Tennis whatever the heck, which is canon. Again, they applied this same logic to Sonic, giving him supporting evidence. "Archie Comics' version of Sonic has feats surpassing his game iteration. But the histories and abilities of Archie and game-continuity Sonics are too different to be considered a single entity, similar to how Mario and Paper Mario are separated characters."

Hugh Jara makes sense. The games have lore that’s different from the comics. The argument with Canon Vs Official is a tricky thing. As Wiz said, “Any official material is acceptable, so long as it’s supported by the games”, but there are several feats Sonic can only do in the comics and not in the games. In the previous Death Battle, one of Sonic’s abilities had to do with Super Sonic. “When the form finally subsides, Sonic returns to normal, at peak physical form, regardless of his condition prior to the transformation”, but if anything, Sonic is at his most vulnerable post transformation with his lack of rings to protect him. I think that ability is something exclusive to the comics. I could be wrong, but I accept the results of this battle regardless.

The main reason for the rematch was 3 years ago the rules of DB change and many have asked would this change any of the original DB so they took one of the most popular and redid it for 100 to show how much the show has changed. Ben who is the show director and voice of Wiz is a huge sonic fan and on the podcast they did afterwards he answered alot of fans questions

I guess it doesn’t matter, because if Sonic had canon access to the time stop ability, he would’ve used it to counter Metal Overlord’s time stop in Sonic heroes, making Mario’s stop watch unnecessary. As for Hyper Sonic, I’m guessing that didn’t matter in the long run either. Both Super and Hyper forms drain rings in the same amount of time, and Sonic couldn’t die until the form ran out.

If they did that mario would lose since that would remove his time control ability. They're explanation on why they didn't give sonic time stop is so damn infuriating considering the abilities they let characters use in the past. Time stop is a by product of chaos control.

Archie Sonic there are various uses for chaos control which depend on the skill of the user. Shadow is proficient in practically every chaos control technique to the point that he can teleport short distances without an emerald. That feat showing Super Sonic and Super Shadow teleporting the Ark was mostly Shadow’s doing, which is why he fell down to the planet and not Sonic, despite both of them transforming at the same time. Sonic struggles with chaos control. If he didn’t, it’d be a natural skill.

Pretty good fight, but I respectfully disagree. Sonic has shown to go lightspeed without any power ups in Heroes being able to do both the light speed dash and attack by himself and Generations doing the lightspeed dash. Super Sonic in advance 3 is shown flying to the nonaggression zone which is an area of space that looks pretty different from Sonic's solar system which was pretty consistent in other games he went to space and the zone looks an unidentified rainbow colored patch of space. So this implies that Sonic flew to a nebula. Super Sonic has also taken out both Solaris and Time Eater, and yes I did read that blurb where they say it doesn't count due to their power being different from Sonic. I disagree since Sonic was still durable enough to take hits from those beings and to still harm them which I would think give him enough durability and power to beat Mario. Also Sonic has kept his super form on for multiple days in Sonic advance the ring time limit is a gameplay element and not story which usually trumps gameplay element. So I think while it would be hard to beat Mario Super Sonic would last long enough to beat Mario. Though I do agree base Mario beats base Sonic. Anyways it doesn't really matter since with these characters it could honestly go either way. It really depends on how one looks at their feats and DB just determined that Mario feats were better than Sonic's. I still think this was a good match with good research I just disagreed and brought up my 2 cents. If anyone wants to disagree with me and comment fine just don't be a jerk about it. If I may throw in my own two cents about this issue... Technically, Mario could have just cheesed the entire fight. His Bottomless Gloves let him use an infinite number of items so long as he's in battle, so he could just use an infinite number of Starmen or Rainbow Stars. No matter how powerful Hyper Sonic is, and no matter how long he can stay like that, nobody can outlast _infinity._ Mario would've won a battle of attrition.

This fight all boils down to reaction time. Like they said, it's a question of if Mario can tag Sonic with a deadly blow. I personally think their 2 feats showing Mario's reaction times aren't... That valid... I'm still open to _believing_ Mario has sufficient reaction time, but those two are definitely not the most convincing when you consider their context.

Gaming Sensei, while up for debate though, they should count since Mario is technically in control of every moment. It's like driving a Speeding car and making sharp turns, it's gonna take impressive reaction thought process to make such turns, and with the speed Mario was going in the Star Driver and the Electric form has shown to travel from the Cap Kingdom to the Cascade Kingdom in very short time, meaning he's really moving fast when making sharp turns in other worlds too. Sonic's never shown any amazing Reaction Speed in game or cutscene that was superior than Mario's, so it's fair to say they are equal in that regards, which applying Sonic's unfortunate setback of Hit and Run tactics, meant he was bound to be hit by Mario eventually.

Difference between falling and being thrown is falling is based on gravity and mass. Thrown is primarily base on person strength and distance. They showed Mario being several times stronger than sonic in strength and endurance. Mario can chuck Browser who probably weights more or less the same as a mountain. Mario from the previous fight was way weaker. Still I can understand “preference”. I was also expecting sonic to win, but happy Mario won this time.

That fight was sooo BS, the animation Itself was fine but the animator has nothing to do with analysis, although even then they used so few power ups compared to the first one but whatever. Nick the Animeniac Backup Well it’s not a lie, almost all special forms need rings. In space, usually rings are scattered like crazy. Making it virtually last forever, but still a limit. All canon games shows it has a limit.

JJ R I am not into poking about people of their expertise on a subject, besides my friends. So to answer your question, HyperSonic does have ring usage, as shown with the ring counter at 12:24. There is only about one form without a time limit, and that is Excalibur Sonic, except he is not invincible. If he gets hit, he loses 20 rings.

Also, I don’t know how much this has an effect in the death battle, but even with them saying how many power ups that Mario have, is greatly out numbered to Sonic’s, they still didn’t take in the factor of other Sonic’s forms. For instance, Sonic’s Werehog form, or Dark Spine Sonic, or even Sonic’s Excalibur Super Form! I could also mention Dark Sonic, buuut they don’t really touch on the shows for this battle...

Well Wolfie, Sonic is very fast but when it comes to variety of items and skill Mario pretty much had an advantage. Even with Super Sonic, Mario could just use the Golden Mushroom and turn him into coins. If Hyper Sonic, then the White Tanooki Suit would do the job since there isn't a time limit and is completely invincible. Trust me, I like the blue blur just as much as you, but Mario is pretty capable of himself.

JJDude I wouldn’t really count the white tankooki suit. Mainly as it’s a power given to bad players. And so by design, it’s impossible for Mario to even get hold of one without dying a few times first. And even then, he has to use it right away and it turns into a regular suit after an undefined amount of time. And Mario does have an ability to turn sonic into gold, and so does sonic. In sonic generations, there’s a power called ring time that turns enemies into rings when sonic gets near them.

Then the metal cap. Then the MEGA mushroom. Then the Super Tanooki. All of which grant invincibility for, let's say, 15 seconds each. I don't know for certain, but let's just say that. 15 + 15 +15 + 15 = 60. More than Sonic's 50 seconds. They ALSO confirmed they won't make a third one. They didn't make this fight just to give Mario a win. They don't do that with thier show. They did this fight becasue the original episode didn't have the same kind of research or effort put into it, considering the original episode was researched, written AND animated in only a week.

yes, a lot of early death battles could end differently. That said, about 20 death battles or so would need to be remade, and i'm pretty sure fans of the show would get annoyed if they kept getting remade fights rather than seeing the characters they actually WANT to see fight.

They used different versions of the characters in the fights because it's still the same character, since as they say in every battle, "It's our job to analyse their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win, a Death Battle!" And as they said, they only used the cartoons when it's supported by the games. As long as the games confirm the stuff in the cartoons, it's considered canon, as shown by them using the Golden Chain-Chomp and SMW Fortress to confirm the dinosaur throw from the cartoon.

I wanna see that team up too. I even came up with a plot. It’s a fan made plot, so I’m open to scrutiny and/or constructive criticism. Eggman, after discovering ancient texts (which is nothing new for him) uses the chaos emeralds to warp to the Mushroom Kingdom. Sonic and Tails give chase after and ram into Eggman, causing him to drop the emeralds. The three of them wind up in different locations. Eggman lands in front of Bowser’s castle, Tails ends up in the middle of nowhere, and Sonic lands in front of Mario’s house. The two team up to stop Eggman, especially when Sonic points out what a problem the emeralds would be if placed in the wrong hands. If this were to be a game, it’d be in the style of the “Mario & Luigi” RPGs.

@@Brobuscus101 He beat Ultimate Emerl, a Gizoid with All 7 Emeralds, 1,000 years Combat experience, and all of Sonic and Co.'s moves. Sonic Beat him in a minute. (Sonic Battle) He tears through metal every single day like it's absolutely nothing. He actually is faster than light, as shown in Sonic Unleashed. Funny thing really, they showed that bit but forgot one little detail. Sonic's lightspeed dash clocks in at 390 SPD. And they were going over 3,000 SPD. The Super Form has been shown to break the rings rule multiple times. Sonic 2: Last mission (All Emeralds) you have no rings. Beat the final boss, and Super Sonic flies down from the explosion. And he jumped immediately when the place was blowing up, didn't get any rings. Sonic 3: after Doomsday Zone, Sonic de-powers and returns the Master Emerald. Afterwards, he transforms back into his Super form...with no rings. Hyper Sonic is no longer Cannon because...reasons? My guess is they don't want him causing any seizures and just don't want to hear about it anymore. (Events of Sonic3K still happen, just without Hyper Sonic) The only things capable of damaging Super Sonic are being that destroy realities (Solaris) or things enhanced by other Chaos energies (Dark Gaia, Solaris, Sonic Rush final boss, Time Eater) Solaris was a being that existed in the past, present, and future, meaning it would have to take 3 being to defeat no exception. Sonic took on the Solaris existing in the Present. Considering they were all essentially the same being existing in different times, Sonic still defeated Solaris on his own while Shadow and Silver dealt with Solaris on their own in the past and future respectively. Sonic Unleashed (Again): Sonic ran out of energy while still in Super Form. Why? Well, he also passes out, and given that he's been blasting through huge area's all day and fighting all night, it doesn't matter if he's in peak physical condition. Sonic is mentally wiped out. Even then, he gets chucked back up and lands right where he started facefirst and is up and running no problem. So Unless Mario can keep Sonic going for nearly a week straight, AND has a means of even damaging Super Sonic, he's not going to do anything. I'll buy that the Super Star could damage Super Sonic, but considering it only lasts 15 seconds without anything to suggest otherwise, Sonic will just take him out in a snap. (prove me wrong if I'm missing something) The White Toonaki suit...doesn't Mario have to die 5 times over for that to happen?

They also failed to mention that he has gotten largely stronger and more durable since the stalactite feat since he was classic at that time and no where near as strong as he is now. And he was also able to beat perfect chaos in base form while in adventure it took supersonic to beat him. Also it is shown that he is only canonically getting faster, so that hyper sonic description is largely dated. Also yes he could use chaos control since the chaos emeralds give him the same abilities as shadow. And to those saying mario could just use the stop watch, I have two very good reasons for why that is not true. One, the chaos emeralds are way more powerful than that stop watch power up so the effects would be way stronger. And 2 the stop watch is from super mario bros. 2. The entirety of that game was a dream. This means most likely the items, places, and feats in that game were not real. So most likely the stop watch does not exist. And like they said with sonic saying he is light speed (which was literally proven in-game) this item has never been proven to exist. If anyone has an argument against mine beyond pulling the "you're just a sonic fan boy" card please let me know.

@TheMagic1 Most of the times mario can't even survive 1 hit from lava so that is one durability feat. Also it is said multiple times that super sonic is almost completely invincible, And can last a lot longer than any of mario's invincibility items. And yes I have seen him listed as ftl before a while back. And omega's calculations are implied to be 100% correct. Sonic didn't even break a sweat while running at those speeds. Also that was not mario piloting the comet observatory it was rosalina it was her ship not his and it was never even implied that it was him flying it. Now I'm not saying he doesn't have the reaction time to put up a fight with sonic but that feat never really happened. Also, if I missed a time stopping item that has been shown in the mario and luigi games sorry about that, I just don't remember one. Mario is more durable but still. As far as I know mario has not tanked an inter dimensional laser beam from a being that existed in the past present and future at once. I'm sure that thing is well beyond star level and yes that feat should be counted as sonic 06 did happen it was just erased. That was not a dream which means everything in it does exist, and it would mean sonic and super sonic would have the same level of durability as shown there. And, like I said, by now he would be much stronger. Also, hate to jump around topics, but that feat about being able to react as fast as that bolt of lightning in odyssey is not accurate, it has nothing to do with how fast it is moving because i'm sure that thing is light speed and yes he is reacting at light speed, but they also failed to mention he gains all of the attributes of the thing he captures this would include reaction time. Therefor that is not his own reaction time it is just apart of the capture. Also lets not use mario party's black hole feat because I'm sure like the one in sonic colors it is fake and not even a real black hole. Also about that black hole thing, sonic is clearly not at his fastest in that, he was shown to go much faster both in that game, unleashed, and generations. I'm sure he was a little injured from the battle with nega wisp armor. He definitely was running as fast as he could at the time but that is not as fast as he can run in base. Great animation! But yeah, they really nerfed Sonic to justify a Mario win. Mario gets access to all of these power-ups, but Sonic doesn't get to use any of his light-speed powers? Light speed attack anyone? Also, by their own calculations, Sonic dodging back and forth while running forward at 2,000,000 mph puts his reaction speed FAR above the Mach 375 shown for Mario. Also, what's to stop Sonic from just teleporting Mario to the sun or something? It's plausible, he teleported a much-larger fast-moving object in SA2. Mario is fast, but there is no way he should even be able to see (let along react to) something moving faster than the speed of light.

Galvatrix I knew Mario would win when the promotion for this was “A classic match with *new* rules”. With 18 vs Captain Marvel, most people were pissed/confused why 18 absorbed energy when she’s never been shown to do it in canon. The answer was “She can do it in the official games, and it’s never stated she *can’t* absorb energy in the canon story”. This is why Sonic lost this time. His Archie Comic persona is much more powerful than his game persona, meaning there were feats not supported by the games in the previous Death Battle. One of them had to do with Super Sonic, which restores Sonic to peak condition after his Super Sonic transformation ended, which is not true. If anything, due to Sonic’s lack of rings, he’s much more vulnerable post transformation. This was pretty much Screwattack looking at their past work and saying “Wait. We missed something”.

I would say that, at least animation-wise, it’s pretty obvious why the throw through the atmosphere was the killing blow. Notice that not only did Sonic generate a literal mushroom cloud upon impact, but he landed directly into the water. Even if he did survive the fall, he used up his Bubble Shield earlier in the fight and most likely would’ve drowned anyways.

Oh and if everything that death battle said was true that Mario was more stronger than Sonic then when Sonic was on Mario's hands and he was speeding up he should have not caught on fire because Sonic is always doing feets that would cause him to catch on fire but he never does but now he does so that's not something in games and also if he was at risk of catching on fire he just could use an invincibility Shield plus they didn't bother using the Werehog so if Sonic needed a boost and strength and speed and they could have just use that they didn't even use each other each other entire power ups I'm going to sound like a really big fan but I just really think Sonic should have won.
