I'm kind of glad that I'm not doing livestreams. I wouldn't be able to restrain myself one little bit and would talk for HOURS on end, likely need a month and a half to even get off the Great Plateau and end up sparking a couple more tin foil hat theories years after the game was released. At least with these videos, I "have to" syphon out a bit of unrelated or semi-related content so they don't get too big ...
EDIT: Huge thanks to @banquote4253 for originally pointing out the dye pot color change thing ;) I couldn't find the original comment for the life of me, so thanks again for commenting!

I think I speak for many people when I say that we would find a series of this very enjoyable. There's a lot of funny details in a lot of the towns, for example how there's a book in Gerudo Town that is too tall for Link to be able to read. Hearing about some of the more subtle details would be even more fun!

i always wondered if the dye shop was originally meant to be a potion shop but since you can make your own elixirs they decided to change it to a dye shop. sayge looks really similar to the potion shop guy in wind waker and the dye bottles are the three classic potion colors. idk just a thought i've had!

Fun fact: the dye-alogue for Sayge has a _lot_ of puns, including one that may be easy to miss: he says that Link might be a _"pigment_ of [his] imagination", rather than _figment._

Good Video, it must make the devs so happy to have someone pick up on each little detail. It may only take the player 5 seconds to go "oh the right tub has faded dye splashes" but who knows how long it takes to design that texture, implement it in the game, touch it up and so much more. Looking forward to the next installment :)

played this four times and never 'un-dyed' an outfit and just assumed it was just for a second customer - never would've seen the other cutscene without this video btw anyone have a theory how they manage to not dye the rest of the outfit, or Link's skin?

Well if you want a specific part have one colour but the rest of the set dont have that you just need to wear that one piece with a different set when dye-ing.

The color change in the pots is not because of where you’re standing. It changed colors based on what fabric you’re standing under. The pots have nothing to do with it. Try it under one of the fairy fountains, like Cotera. It’ll turn the whole screen a pink color.

I swear I try but I can't just stop to appreciate such details during the gameplay. My brain just don't resist ignoring "useless" stuff and looking for collectables/loot. That's why I LOVE videos like this, that allow me to dive into the game's world not as a player but as a visitor in a museum following an experienced guide. I hope you do analysis of other areas, which are as rich as (or richer than) this.

This video has so many interesting and niche details about the aguably best shop in the game. Many of which I've never had the time to look at nor appriciate. Yet I was really most flabbergasted by the fact there's 2 fricken ladders that lead to the top of the building that I've failed to notice of the countless time's I've been here. Great analysis lol. Your finds make me appriciated this game a little more each and ever vid :)

In Zelda, when one thinks a name or set of names is a play on words, one is correct. To my knowledge it is always intentional, and it is quite common for families or even whole communities to have a theme. This practice goes all the way back to Zelda 2: Adventure of Link with the characters Bagu and Error (Bagu is meant to be "bug"), which references difficulties programs can have. A few others: Skyward Sword - Most of the Skyloft residents are named after birds, the Mogma after metal ore, and the Kikwi after types of tea. Breath of the Wild - Most of the Sheikah have names that reference fruit. Many of the Zora have musical references, with the Royal family being a play on the notes of the scale. There are probably many more, but these are just a few I can remember.

Koroks are named after plants. Hestu = cHESTnUt for example, but also Oaki (oak) or Maca and Damia (macadamia nut) ... I think there was a more-or-less complete list in one of the official wikis.

All these details you've pointed out makes me appreciate the game more and more! The Zelda team really put a lot of thought into designing the dye shop! Not just the decor but functionality as well. As you pointed out, dyes are washed downstream and it's situated right behind a river flowing downstream. Dyeing clothes was expensive and labor intensive especially for purple cloth. It was considered the most prized and expensive dye not only in Medieval times but all the way to the first century. Wearing purple was practically for royalty only (or some very, very posh person)! I didn't know there was a Rusted Shield on the roof of the dye shop! Hateno's one of the beginner areas so obviously the devs wouldn't put any high level shields there but you'd think it'd be a Wooden Shield, Fisherman Shield, Hunter's Shield, or Emblazoned Shield since those have patterns painted on them.

You mentioned the climbing animation for the NPC when getting into bed. And it just occurred to me. If you sit in the dye shop all day, do you watch the Wife and Kid get into the beds and go to sleep? or is this only true if you leave and come back? Can you watch them wake up in the morning? I know you can follow people around stables and villages and watch their routines, but this seems different to me.
@WolfLink_justlookingfordragon

I didn't watch these NPCs specifically, but I've seen other child-sized NPCs wake up (Nebb for example, the little pain-in-the-neck that wants to see all those different weapons) and there is indeed an animation for this - it is even kind of cute how they scooch over to the edge of the bed before hopping down. ;)

I'm suddenly reminded of a Anthony Jeselnik joke ("Thoughts and Prayers"): _"I think it’s funny how the things that happen to us when we’re kids end up staying with us for our entire lives._ _I got this little niece. When she was three years old, she almost drowned. And now to this day, even ten years later, she still will not go anywhere near me._ _Yeah, I was babysitting her… and trying to do laundry. And she accidentally fell into the washing machine._ _Thought I was quick. I got good reflexes. I thought I got her out before anyone would find out what happened._ _But nope._ _Turned everything pink."_

Since Lurelin village could be reached from Hateno by taking a boat down the coast, I wonder if that's how Sefaro got his necklace? Since we know Hateno and Lurelin have contact with eachother, but the distance between them while travelling by land is very great.
@WolfLink_justlookingfordragon
@WolfLink_justlookingfordragon Жыл бұрын
That would likely be faster than travelling on land, yes ... especially considering that neither Lurelin nor Hateno have a stable, so wandering merchants would be travelling on foot, which takes even longer. And there is a convenient footpath just south of the Tech Lab leading all the way down to the beach ...
