This video for me is quite realistic. Jet fighters dogfight is quite a different game from the IL-2 series of propellers aircraft and the pilot sustained much heavier G force to perform even the simple maneuvers. The F-86 is shown as having difficulties outturning and out-climbing the more nimble MiG-15, and the 50 cal machine guns had some hard time punching through the MiG's hull compared to the MiG's 23mm and 30mm guns. But if altitude and speed advantage could be gained early, the F-86 can quite easily catch up with the scared and running MiGs, or escape from the MiG with thrust. The radar gunsight is also a very lethal addition that greatly increased accuracy of the machine gun fire. Was wondering though, there appears to be missle arming device in the F-86 cockpit in this series, would there be a chance to fire a couple of missles in future missions (although historically the first AA missle kill occured after the Korean War)?

Nice sortie, I wonder if the damage to your aircraft may have been scripted, especially given that the campaign taught you how to operate your gear manually previously (that was scripted right?). Not that it matters of course, it's all about the experience, not the mechanics after all. I was also wondering, do you know if your team mate that screwed up in the end got out alive?

After watching this video earlier today I was inspired to jump into my Flying Circus campaign in the S.E.5a. after not playing for a few days. Well .... I started ripping the wings off the damn thing again trying to push it too hard -- like an F-86 or Mig-15. .... So thanks for that. LOL The F-86 is one of my favorite fighter planes ever. RE: Mig-15 .. My brother once worked at the Experimental Aircraft Association Museum and grounds in Oshkosh Wisconsin. With "back access" as such, I got to walk around and touch a flyable Mig-15. It was dizzying, being right there. Not just a museum piece. Flyable. They have a flyable F-86 as well, but at the time that one WAS in the museum. They have to rotated them in and out and take the planes out flying now and then or they'll get sad. SO freakin cool!!! ... Plenty of other ridiculously cool planes too. If you ever find yourself in the vicinity of Oshkosh Wisconsin it is WELL worth checking out. They have the world's largest airshow every year IIRC. For that period the airport also becomes the busiest in the world. ... I'm freakin 3 hrs away from Oshkosh and the air traffic is quite noticeable. Often see some pretty sweet old birds tho at relatively low altitudes.

Unknown if he has gone down since, or is back across the south Korean border as I was almost immediately jumped by a Sabre. I have been told american guns do not hurt as much as ours. Heeey, where did that rear fuselage/tail damage come from? There were no hits on your plane in the video as far as I can tell. And 37mm or 23mm impacts are not something you just "miss"... they will get your attention. o_O Easiest way to tell them apart is to watch for the smoke. Is the guy you're looking at trailing a thin black smoke? That's a Sabre. If he doesn't, BREAK! Kinda funny, after the Sabre's and MiG-17's the "black smoke trail" is mostly found on the Soviet design's, not so much on the US ones. MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-29... they all look like they are running on Volkswagen Diesel engines if they aren't using the afterburner.

@matthewcaughey88983 жыл бұрын
Actually Wolf I’m a bit late here but I think I know what happened to you there. You definitely weren’t hit by a MiG of that I’m certain. The MiG is armed with a pair of 23mm cannons and a 37mm cannon, there’s no way you wouldn’t have noticed that. Had a MiG hit you the damage would have likely been catastrophic, requiring you to pull out of the fight and either try to make for the ocean in hopes of a USN pickup or limp far enough over friendly territory to where SAR assets could pick you up. Those 23s would have done far more damage and that 37 would have been a 1 shot. I think you were either hit by friendly fire from one of your own F-86s to where he grazed you slightly, or you were struck by debris from that last MiG you were chasing. Based on the damage I would say debris was a more likely scenario and it just happened to catch your speed brake and managed to rip it off. This explains the loss of fluid as you deployed them unaware anything was wrong and you pumped off all your hydraulic fluid as your damaged side tried to open what wasant there to open. The burn spot just above the missing speed brake also indicated debris strike. Also I think your front wheel did actually fall out but it didn’t render in and didn’t lock.
@Wolfpack3453 жыл бұрын
