First time I watched this I thought their engagement was an ongoing joke brought by cultural misunderstanding and both of them didn't break their engagement because of their pride. It’s one of those things that’s got a pretty good anime, but 90% of the BL content, and therefore, 90% of the character development, was cut out. It’s still a fantastic anime. I just recommend the light novels and the various official short stories more. You can find those online. The relationship actually goes somewhere in the light novels.

Ngl i rlly love em and this anime but i swear they did wolfram dirty in anime. Cuz in manga hes much more mature and calm compare to him being comedy relief tsundere. Also as result, it look like yuuri got forced to wolfram. Btw in manga has very diff storyline, and yuuram moment is much sweeter there with yuuri treat wolfram like his fiance instead of feeling cringe towards him. And remember that wolfram is over 80 yrs old, he should be mature than yuuri

I think that part will happen when Yuri grows up a bit more. He's still very young and still very new to that world. Among all the massive changes in his life, it is expected that love takes a backseat. But you know something far better is happening during the show. He develops a bond, a friendship based on trust and faith with Wolfram and with them raising a little girl together, their bond is going to be unbreakable. And these are one of the best foundations that you can ever lay for any relationship. Trust and friendship. When Yuri does fall, oohhh it's going to be beautiful!
