WOLFWALKERS Clip - "Wolf, Wolf, Kill the Wolf" (2020)

Something I read about and now see clearly. Robyn initially is drawn with a very distinct black outline like you can see at 0:50, and after she gets bitten at 2:09. Then after she uses her new sight for the first time, her outline gains more a rough sketch look to it with a sort of subtle aura around her, like Mebh, noticeable at 2:24. A neat little visual indicator that she's changed.

Here’s some more facts and context! Mebh and her mother, along with the other wolves have really chaotic sketchy outlines and you can also see their construction lines too! This represents their wildness and wild behavior. The townspeople on the other hand have smooth black outlines around them with absolutely no construction lines too, representing their caged like behavior and strictness towards rules too. Robyn had a black outline as she was part of the town but throughout the film (after she got bitten), we see her outline turning more chaotic and sketchy, as well as her construction lines showing, which represents that she is starting to accept nature. However, when she betrayed Mebh in the middle of the film, her outlines went back to normal smooth black, again with no construction lines. Then later, her chaotic outlines and construction lines went back again! Same goes for her father too after he got bitten and turned into a wolfwalker. Talk about detail in this movie!

I noticed that too! I read somewhere that, for the wolves and the wolfwalkers, they were animated to look rough, which is visible with the sketch lines you can see, while the townsfolk were all smooth lines. The instant Robin becomes a wolfwalker, her lines go from smooth to rough.

During the meeting between Robyn and wolf Mebh, the former accidentally gets caught in a snare. Wolf Mebh looks on in confusion as Robyn stutters that she'll fight off the wolf with nothing but her fists if need be. The wolf Mebh's expression gradually morphs from confusion to playful enjoyment, thinking this is some sort of fun game, as though she legitimately thinks "townies" like to hang upside-down by the foot swinging back and forth for fun.

Look at this scene from Robyn's perspective. At this point she probably thinks the wolf's one of the faeries / Fair Folk, considering that Robyn found Merlyn in a faerie circle - healed - and that there's obviously the feel of supernatural about the wolf and where it was leading her. (Why would a wolf suddenly appear as the ghost of a human girl??) The fact that her falcon chose to follow the wolf instead of her would have all but sealed that deal. The Werewolves of Ossory were a lot more complicated than that, however - as Robyn is about to find out.
