Made 2 just like that about 4 years ago one for me and one for my them wife out of mahogany. She had hers for about a month and left it on the end table by the couch and one of our dogs chewed it up. I wanted to carve a design in mine by not very good at carving and didn't want to screw it up.

Its tree species is walnut. I made it thin with 3mm. That's called a single round.
