We plan to visit at the beginning of July. We plan to base in Kotor and we enjoy the outdoors like hiking. Are mosquitoes a problem in the area??? Should we be worried about anything else?: Thanks in advance.
@mirkovukoslavovic26362 жыл бұрын
@@ciaranmac646 Hydrate. Cap sunglasses are a must, the wheater is humid and dry in Kotor and Sun hits hard. I would not exagerate the mosquito issue, bring some protection or you can buy it in Kotor. A week ago I climbed the walls of Kotor. Such a wonderful place. You have a local Blue Line bus to go to Tivat Perast Risan even to a ferry ride. You will love it. You have airport in Dubrovnik but the one in Tivat is way closer with a car from Tivat you reach the old town of Kotor in 15min. It saves time. 😄✌

We were there a year ago this past November, and it was a true surprise on our cruise. We tendered from the bay, which was nice, and then we took a car tour of the country with a very nice couple. It was great, with so much history and hidden gems! We even had time when we got back from the guided tour to check out the old town. It was a bit drizzly, but it was fun otherwise. We did stop in a bar for some drinks before we went back to the ship, and it actually was kind of expensive (with a mandatory 20% tip). We enjoyed the time regardless.

Montenegro is a beautiful country with diverse nature and great views. I really recommend going inland towards the 4 other national parks (besides Lovcen). Funny thing is that Montenegrans don't seem to realize how beautiful their country is. The Montenegran border police asked us: 'why are you going to Montenegro?' Tourist visit. 'Really? why would you come to Montenegro for that?!?' Maybe this has changed since 2012 :p.

We stopped their on our honeymoon cruise. We went on a short excursion to lipa cave. It was our break from going to see historical buildings. It was my first time in a cave. I thought it was awesome to see some different natural beauty than I was used too. Do know if you decide to go there it is very cold. Temperatures are close to freezing all year round. They do have parkas but even with their parkas it was still cold. Also the ride back on the historical serpent road is definitely something to experience.

Staying in Budva instead of Dubronvik is another option (which reduces the road trip to a single hour) as Budva also has marvellous sea and swimming opportunities (don't forget to take a photo with Ballerina Statue on the rocks when you are there; oh, also you should try Tuna Fish Barbeque if you like sea food!). While you are there, you might consider adding the following to your visit list: Tivat, Perast, Podgorica, Herceg Novi and Iskodra... They are all beautiful with their own characteristics!

Regarding the language, Montenegrin, Croatian, Serbian, and Bosnian are basically the same language, called different in different countries for political reasons ('Language is a dialect with an army and a navy.'). The official dialect of each of these languages is Shtokavian. So, whichever words you learn in one of those countries works in others as well: molim, hvala, dobar dan...
