@@BrianandCarrie Hi again - agree the north of Spain will be a lot different to the south - can't wait to see your video on that... Not sure if you want to do a Q&A but if you do I have a couple of questions for you. 1) If you are on prescription meds (we are) how do you get them? 2) how do you go about getting cash? We went to a cash machine and the fees seemed really high. Any tips? Cheers, Ian & Maggie
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian. The prescription med question is a good one. We got extra contact lenses but other than that we don't have any prescription. We understand that if you have a prescription it's not difficult to get what you need in places like Spain or Western Europe where the health care system is very good. This is something we may research more moving forward. Getting cash is easy. We use Charles Schwab that reimburses all ATM fees at the end of each month. We usually take out enough cash to only take advantage of this one time each month. We also use Capital One Visa. You get the best exchange rate this way. Cheers!! 🍻

I've lived in Montenegro several times for months at a time. I was just there 3 weeks ago. I've never heard of or paid a "tourist tax," and I've been going to and from there since 2010. I've driven across multiple borders and flown dozens and dozens of times, and this is the first time I've ever heard of a tourist tax in Montenegro.

Interesting as we had to pay at both locations and our Airbnb host was very adamant to get this done soon as we arrived. I'm sure, as many things, you can skirt around rules without issue. But we just felt it's never worth that risk. Thanks for watching ☺️

@@seanpizzo8256 well, there is a Tourist Tax in Montenegro (like almost everywhere), but i think, because relatives of property owners (parents-in-law) are excempt, they don´t bother you. And as a rule, most often registration is done not by the tourists themselves, but by the owners of the housing where they stay. This is also regulated by law. It states that all Montenegrin citizens who provide residential space for tourists on legal grounds must register their guests on their own and they have 12 hours to do so. Only if you arrive in Montenegro without a tour package and are not going to stay in an official hotel or hotel should register on their own. But if there was no Registration and Payment, they could fine € 200,- but it seems, the fines are not imposed on all and not always 😉😊

@@BrianandCarrie If you ever travel again in Montenegro a locals advise is stay in Podgorica ( capital) main train and bus station and they are minutes apart and connect the entire country for day trips and staying in Podgorica is way cheaper then any other place if you rent over booking...also the visa tax we call 'white visa' is not a must just stick to booking. Hope this helped , thanks for the fair video about my home country.

Thanks for this vid, and the other vids on Montenegro... I have been living in Bansko for almost 2 years now (great expat/nomad town BTW), and was thinking to go to Montenegro for a couple of months in the winter, as winter here gets to minus 18 Celsius... So these vids were super helpful !! I def don't mind less night life, the view looks awesome, and I love to cook LOL Was wondering though, what were the temperatures like in Jan-Feb? Also, were the apartments insulated? (In Bansko, even though it's a freezing ski-town, there's almost no insulation...) Hi Jenny and Tom! Yes, we did have a 90 Schengen visa while we visited Spain. Now being in Montenegro, we are out of the Schengen zone and have to remain out for anohter 30 days before we can re-enter. We never did purchase a Eurail pass, we just purchased train tickets as we needed them. I only ever briefly looked into the pass, but with the small amount of transfers we would be doing it didn't seem cost effect. But for furture trips where would be moving around more, it may be a great option. As far as how we handle debit cards for cash withdrawals, we both use Fidelity and Charles Schwab. They both offer debit cards that reimburse your ATM withdrawal fees. We also each have credit cards that have no foreign transaction fees, Capital One Venture is a great option. Sounds like you both have a exciting adventure ahead :) Cheers 🍻

Yes, it is best to buy it at the bus station because you need a printed ticket. We use Getbybus.com to get the updated bus schedule then arrive at the bus station to make the purchase of the ticket. Cheers!!!🍻

@@BrianandCarrie last question.Where in europe was your favorite place so far.Difficult question i know with so many great places.
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie 2 жыл бұрын
That is a difficult question!! We really enjoyed Spain but we are finding the people in Montenegro and Albania to be incredibly kind. We have been to Portugal and plan on going back in the very near future. We were only in the Algarve region for 3 days so we want to go back and spend an extended period of time. We will be in Greece next month so we shall see what we think. Unfortunately, we haven't been to Western Europe yet, it is a bit out of our current price range. We have only been on our current world travel for 5 months so we will have a better idea in the next couple of years. Thank you for the question!!! Cheers!!!🍻

Italy also has a tourist tax, our Airbnb host collected & took care of it. I don’t recall house much maybe 5 to 8 euros per person regardless of how many days as we stayed on night in Bologna & four in Tuscany.
@BrianandCarrie
@BrianandCarrie 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan. That sounds reasonable. We don't mind paying a tourist tax but Montenegro sounded high. A good way to support the country I suppose. We may be in Italy late summer early fall, still mapping out where we are looking to go this year. If we do make it into Italy it would be the same region of Bologna and Tuscany. We will see. Cheers!!!🍻

You really should have headed to Herceg Novi. It has the best of both Budva and Kotor. It’s got a better sun location at the mouth of the bay and all south facing vs Kotor is hemmed in by mountains. Also, I found the swimming not so good in Kotor as there are not any good beach locations and a lot of boat traffick!
