Being that all of the faucet water is heated naturally from the volcanoes , how did you guys react to the methane stench in the bathroom, and is it like that on all parts of the island ? A quick story , it was our first day ever in Iceland , we checked into our hotel in Reykjavik, and I went to take a shower , and was horrified by the smell . (Being the ignorant American that I was at the time , and Not knowing WHY it smelled that way) , I went to complain at the front desk , and they asked me if this was my first time in Iceland. I said "Yes". Then I got a brief geothermal lesson , and from there on , not only did I accept the smell , I enjoyed it. I really love Iceland . Must go back. Must go back !

You are correct that Iceland follows Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), but you didn't mention that they follow it year round. In other words, they DO NOT follow daylight saving time. What this means is that while Iceland is currently 5 hours ahead of New York, once the US switches to daylight saving time, then Iceland will only be 4 hours ahead of New York. Similarly, when the UK switches to British Summer Time, Iceland will be 1 hour behind the UK.

One thing I want to mention. I highly recommend the wool sweaters and would say it's the definitive souvenir from Iceland BUT buy it handmade. The sweater shown in the video is from the company Icewear and it's machine maid and not 100% guaranteed to be made here. Icewear has a lot of good jackets, coats, hats and gloves but for the wool sweaters look for a Handcraft store. You will find the all over the country and local guides always know where is the best place in their region to find them.

I have no knowledge of children or what age they might remember/understand things, but I sincerely hope your kids know how lucky they are to travel and see all of these amazing places, and I hope they are able to remember at least some of these experiences throughout their lives. Iceland is definitely on my bucket list. It looks amazing for sure! Question though... they speak Icelandic, but most know English well... So when you go into a grocery store, is all of the food packaging written in Icelandic? I'm just curious if when you go shopping it's a gamble picking things to buy just by looking at the pictures on the packages and deciding if it might taste good or not. lol

I just returned to Newark, NJ from 3 months based in Budapest. In Hungary, I understood the exchange rate for the Florint/Dollar but was confused by the coma/decimal point. In Zagreb, I did somewhat better with the exchange to Kuna. I always "tipped" because I was taught to (and because I worked as waiter and driver) though it was not expected or was included in the bill. If we both can function in 2018, we will spend 2 months in Zagreb and we are trying to find a way/reason to spend 2 months in Iceland in 2019. We don't yet know how to do that as we are brutally spoiled by Saturday Classical music concerts for about $2. in Budapest or cheap access to the museums in the "old City" in Zagreb

Tip for the audio: Cut out the bass (lower frequencies) and then normalize the volume. Your voice is generally in the mid-frequency range, whereas the wind is coming in as bass against the microphone.

You said they are on the Icelandic Krone, but then you said breakfast may be 10-15 Euro. Do they take both? Also how does the exchange rate go? If they have 10,000 IK notes, then there must be a digit displaced some way when you are buying things. 1.00= around 116 ISK right now? So on a menu, I would see a 25,000 ISK item? I am familiar with using Euro and GBP, but this is new territory for me.

Oh, if you need to drink alcohol, buy it in the duty free! A lot cheaper! One of my friends in Iceland asked me to buy her a few bottles of alcohol in the airport. That's where they stock up. No drinking and driving!

There is really no point to cash in Iceland, loads of places don't even have facilities to accept cash any more because very few people use cash day to day.
