Such a beautiful place. I was fortunate to grab a weekend trip through Strasbourg and Colmar while on a business trip in Frankfurt a few years back. It amazes me how many beautiful, unique places Europeans can reach within a short train ride. If I hop in the car for 3 hours here in the US, I might not even be one state over yet.

The walk from the train station is in fact quite nice, a wonderful Court of Appeal building, old parcs, a pretty resident area.

Colmar is at its best at Christmas time, when many of the buildings are elaborately decorated for the season. I really recommend visiting in December if you can - it's absolutely magical. Neighbouring big city Strasbourg is also known for its Christmas-themed streets.

Bartholdi didn’t design the EIFFEL TOWER. However Gustave Eiffel did design the framework of the STATUE OF LIBERTY which was designed by Bertholdi. The museum you couldn’t remember is the Unterlinden. It is fantastic.

So fantastic to see Colmar. We spent a week there, touring the little villages all the way to Muenster (yes, the cheese). Love, Love, Love it all. On way back to Strausborg, find the bakery/mill est. in 1740, called Moulin Kircher. Wonderful historic place in Ebersheim. Jean Michel Kircher, owner. Enjoy every magical moment!

Thank you for doing this. I’m a total Francophile but I’ve never been to the north east region of France. That’s neat about the storks. Provence has its giraffes and colmar its storks. Each region is so packed with pride and history. I remember reading in a Peter Mayle book that the only thing the Provençals hate worse than the Germans are the Parisians! Thank you so much for this wonderful video! Such great info

It was my worst subject despite studying more for it than anything else, but I actually used it in Alsace to get around as public transit is a bit complicated (even locals don't know/need help) if you want to go to all the little towns and villages that are honestly much better than Colmar. I took day trips from Colmar via bus and train. I stayed near the train station for $30/night less than 4 yrs ago. It's easier with a car.

Belated Happy Mother's Day to your mom. What a wonderful place to spent the day. I also love how you give a little history about the place. Actually wish we're there on a Sunday. Love that it's not too crowded. I remember going to Cesky Krumlov, outside of Prague, on winter and it is absolutely gorgeous as we have the narrow streets mostly to ourselves. Thank you again.

Wow must have just missed you! We just got back from a two week trip to France where half of that time was spent in Strasbourg and Colmar! It's really incredible how well preserved everything is. Highly recommend touring Castle du Haut-Koeningsbourg if you haven't done that! It was one of the highlights of our trip to the Alsace region (as well as eating all of the fromage blanc tartes 😋)

Some people want to go to different countries Mark without bothering to understand different cultures or that cultures Etiquette and experiences. I can't wait to start being able to travel and meet different people. I have the Cotswolds and Blackpool this year but next year i'm deciding between Sicily, Cyprus, Curacao or South Africa, All disabled/handicapped friendly.

Thanks Mark! Nice video, as always 😊 On a usual Sunday, some places would be open, but this specific day, 8th of May, is also a public holiday (celebration of the end of the European part of WWII). Hence some more closed doors. Happy Mother's day! (Local info: people of Colmar will celebrate the Mother's day on the last Sunday of May 😄).

I visited the Christmas markets there in 2018. It was ironically cheaper to stay in Basel and travel in for the day than get a hotel there. Basel had its own Christmas markets too. Definitely worth the visit. Also, Basel Airport is fairly cheap to fly to as it’s technically in France so the airlines have cheaper fees (I believe) but it has two exits: A French Exit and Swiss Exit. So I guess you can use French exit and go directly to Colmar too for you’re lucky enough to get a hotel there

I got off the train in Colmar from Strasbourg and was to say a little underwhelmed. Luckily I booked a nice Airbnb right in the heart of little Venice and was very inspired by how beautiful the lay out is near the water. Truly a fantasyland. Granted as a single guy Strasbourg is for me a bit more, but Colmar is a picturesque place for couples.

Mark, even Parisian waiters are great, I've had one even say, "thank God, your Americans..." (we tip $ and tend to be pleasant). Just don't call a waiter "garçon" it means "BOY" and not conducive to getting good service. There also has been a shift in the last decade, some waiters are becoming more open with guest when that used to be seen as unprofessional, and France is always far more formal than the US or UK. Also, "bonjour" (good day) is an expected politeness to start, use it for better service everywhere.
