As a person born and raised in Milan this video is so funny. Quite true overall, but I never thought I would hear a foreign talk about Imbruttiti e Giargiana

Also, as a visitor, I don't think of it as industrial. I think of it as commerical. It's not factories. It's businesses. Right?

People going slow and being oblivious that maybe someone will want to get around them annoy me, too, in a generic suburb in the US. I just can't figure out when I go shopping or something how people can move that slowly.

I'm glad you mentioned the San Siro, I'd recommend anyone go there to watch a football match, even if you don't like football. It's one of the world iconic stadiums and it's being knocked down in a few years.

Escalator etiquette applies to EVERYwhere. Stand on the right, walk on the left, Even in UK where they drive on the other side of the road, they still stand on the right and walk on the left. Two people together: DO NOT stand side by side on an escalator. Also, Do not walk down narrow sidewalks side by side. Nobody can pass you or even go the other direction.
@TheGibb0nz10 ай бұрын
except for Australia, we stand on the left there

Ok, Milan has been nice. Maybe you visited the lesser known cultural landmarks. Like the Synagogues, which have been more than welcoming to visitors.

At 3m 11s you showed one of the old trams, built circa 1930. It should be stressed that these vehicles are not museum pieces! Milan tramways use them 7-days-a week on their less busy routes!

I found the people of Milan so friendly to tourists. Use your common sense, and be polite. We ate at so many hole in the wall places, and I can only say a handful of words in Italian, they would switch to English and it wasn't a bother.
@mimmiblu6138 Жыл бұрын
Yes, we tend to speak English, after tourists make the effort to ask if we can switch to it. This is Italy... after all and we're quite proud of our culture, which is made up of many different regional identities, including the industrial one from Milan. I am so glad you've experienced the cheerful side of the Milanese! (I have to laugh every time foreigners ask me if I'm Italian because they expect all of us to have a SuperMario accent😉)

Cool City! Even many Tourists might be disappointed not seeing enough "old stones", I think this is one of the biggest strenghs of Milan! So much more then old stones and grappy Souvenir stores! Nice sights, mixed with the Flair of a cultural, fashion and Shopping capital! One additional point - if you are lucky and can get Tickets for scala (absolut recommendable by the way!!!), please watch out to wear a nice dress (e.g. suit & tie)! Going into one of the most iconic openhouses in the World in Jeans can be considered as disrespectful

Great video but it must be said that Milanesi more often are quite rude especially when they drive and it’s a very non pedestrian friendly/cyclist city

Going to Milan just for a couple days later this year because I got tickets to a show there. It's actually nice to hear it's not just a series of tourist places cause since I'm not doing a proper stay I plan to just hang out with the extra time.

As an Icelander I found Milano absurdly cheap. It was slightly more expensive compared to Reggio Emilia where I stayed before but in both cities everything was basically free compared to Iceland (probably because Iceland is stupidly expensive). Not only was the basic price of everything low but also the portions were insanely generous compared to Iceland. A double drink in Iceland has the same amount of booze as a single in Italy etc. etc. However the highlight of the city is obviously Bloodbuster Video, a store that specialises in genre film videos, merch, and books.

A big one for locals (really in any old European cities) - don’t roll your rollie suitcase along the cobblestone streets. It’s disrespectful and noisy for residents and diners in cafes who can hear you coming a minute away and a minute afterwards. If you hit cobblestones, pick it up and carry it.

This isn't always possible. My mother in law travels often (she's Swiss) to see her grandkids in Milan. She has rheumatoid arthritis in her hands (they are deformed from arthritis basically). Carrying a 3kg isn't possible for her. My mom still travels all over Italy from Florida. She has regular arthritis in her hands. If you're young yeah sure, but if your old absolutely not.

That's too much. It's amazing how Italian likes visitors to spend money at their shop and restaurants , and they hate visitors even though many visitors spend tons of money which serves as a big support of Italian economy. You make sure do Carry your rollie suitcase when you visit other countries. OK??

I just got back from Milan. I have been lots of places in Italy and love it but Milan is bottom of my list. Good points great transport system, great museums, ice creams (not many gelatos) great bars and restaurants. Bad points , too much graffiti (I just don’t get it) can feel unsafe around the main train station, lots of scammers, lack of public toilets ( nuisance keep having to buy something at busy cafes to use the facilities) Some places we felt unwelcome as tourists and others we felt in welcomed. I love Rome and Florence much better.

All of this is common sense, not just for Milan. It makes me wonder if the Milanese hate the electric scooters. BTW, the worst thing that happened to Italy is unification. Italians are very attached to their locale. Each region is different. I wish we could turn the clock back 150 years. I suspect that some Italians feel the same way.
@johnnymartinjohansen5 ай бұрын
I don't think Milan is that expensive. Sure, if you insist on only going to the fashion shops or only eating near the Duomo, it is. But there are tons of budget options all around the city. And the first on your list? 99.99% of tourists (at least foreigners) have never heard those terms. Ever. And therefore will never talk about it. Btw, Milan isn't really an industrial city, it's more a finance/tech city.

Asa tourist, things you won't like about Italy: 1. It's a country without benches. There are no benches in the entire country. Even when you pay to enter a park, you will found no benches there. To sit down - either sit on some steps (eg as in Spanish Steps in Rome) or pay for a drink in a coffee shop. 2. Very few sidewalks or very narrow outside the main town centers. 3. Very few signs and directions anywhere. 4. Generally speaking, food is not so good.
