And I'm all for it. Some of these characters are so cool. I'm loving Iska The Unbeaten and Death. War and Genesis are interesting as hell too, could make great Xmen villain going forward. Glad Summoner died though, after betraying Krakoa like that.

For this to be true, Saturnyne would have to be acting altruistically. Is that something that's consistent with her characterization in the past? She seems manipulative and selfish up til now, but I've never known of her character prior to Excalibur. Further, if this is really her plan, this would tremendously minimize the threat that Annihilation poses to Otherworld and Krakoa from a narrative perspective. And I don't feel that Annihilation is a throwaway character given all that we've seen of her. UItimately though, I do feel that X of Swords will end with Krakoa and Arakko uniting. Arakko will add to Krakoa's numbers but at the cost of constantly navigating two very different perspectives towards life. I really do hope that many of the Arakko Blades survive and join the ranks of Krakoa. Apocalypse's first horseman are amazing. And I love pretty much all the blades of Arakko barring Summoner. I'm extremely fond of Bae the Blood Moon, Redroot, War and White Sword.

@@TrumonicTrav the way she shattered sure makes me think there's more to come where Betsy is concerned, and psychics possessing others when their body gets killed is a good story point. But what would be even better is a gambit played by Betsy that has these ingredients to not get suspected: 1. Isca is "Unbeatable" so losing is to be expected, no reason to suspect Betsy is still among the living 2. Brian is not in on the plan because his authentic mourning and anger would help sell a secret move Betsy is trying 3. The only way to beat and unbeatable opponent is to psychically find a loophole that upholds her victory, i.e. telepathically show her she won to support whatever power she probably psionically manipulates reality or surroundings with to ensure victory 4. One of the few ways to counter Saturnyne's seemingly superior magically enhanced telepathy is to make her not even try to find Betsy because she herself expected her death at the hands of Isca, so unlike a brute force telepathic intrusion like Monet attempted, Betsy is probably out there sleuth walking to find a way to save Krakoa and Earth -OR- Saturnyne herself is the cause of the shattered body and never let Betsy die to begin with in order to get something she wants more.

@@JM-gc7hz something about Betsy being the only one to get merced so far keeps front of mind that Jamie Braddock once wove her into existence in some special way. I'm pretty sure that despite Krakoa's res protocols being compromised by Santo's return, that there were workarounds that could have been used. His presence and interactions with whatever genetic material needed probably triggered the rewrite of his backup, but from the get they could have probably created 2 versions of the very champions who went to the Otherworld contest if they had to, seeing as there would be no nexus-dimension death to throw anything off at the point of creation.

She could be on the cover and still not in the comic (although I do believe/hope she's going to be brought back, even if by Jamie Braddock instead of the 5). Just when she got her original body and the Capt. Britain title for a few, taking her out this soon is a shame. Especially since I was hoping they'd give some Betsy/Kwannon interactions (funny how even in her death we are left with a version of Psylocke that we're technically more familiar with, body and costume-wise)

Wolverine and Storm are just as cheap a retcon. Actually, cheaper, as it was forced by Jason Aaron at the time, who now all of a sudden adores Black Panther now that he's writing him. Also, very telling that most writers during the time of their relationship ignored it. Mainly Bendis, which isn't saying much, but he was the main writer at the time.

These stories just have no resale value. I think it is time for Magneto to pull an asteroid out of orbit and send it to earth with an ultimatum for mutant equal rights. Then the X-Men trying to stop him with Xavier doing mutant relation damage control. The art is wonderful though. This is one of the few times the artist really is better then the writer, and it really shows. Like having Michelangelo drawing for a drunk chimpanzee storyteller.

Yeah, the writer(s) for these few issues seem to have the hardest time telling compelling "loss" scenarios. Why ignore Magik having a more powerful arm wrestling form? (Or why write in that silliness of an arm wrestle to start with?) Why have the Horsemen act so weird? I do respect an attempt to not let it be a straight up 10x10 sword fight, but going from the serious set up to the silly outcomes is disorienting

I was wondering the same thing. I don't expect writers to remember every aspect of a character's possibilities but in trying to have these crazy loopholes and non-sword fights, they wrote Magik a bit too simple for a War Captain. We literally just had her show, an admittedly amped up version of, her Darkchilde persona during the Cotati assault on Genosha. That should have been a bit more front of mind even if simply to have her try and still not be as strong as Pogg Ur Pogg, or have Saturnine block Magik's magic transformation attempt.

True thing, Mike, but I'm noticing a reduction in how fearsome and powerful the original horsemen even are depicted versus what we believed they were supposed to be. If they're going to be part of the new status quo, they'll probably still have to he adversaries to the X-Men in some way to be shown as powerful otherwise they're going to be toned down hero allies.

I do like this event, even the silly stuff but why make everyone go through hell to get swords if so far there has only been 3 sword fights? The point system and how they are being setup against each other is just bananas. Funny that Apocalypse's kids are suppose to be the first and best Horsemen, hardend by centuries of battle but yet so far they've been acting like a group of petty and cowardly bitches. Also what's stupid is that all this could be stopped in favor of Krakoa, if Brian Braddock would just give it up to Saturnyne lol

I think that Krakoa is going to lose the tournament but win over the Arakans. And they decide to ally whit each other. I feel like Hickman is building a mutant coalition with them having portals to the Shiar empire and the Brood under the lead of Broo. Arako is next.

She is setting up to be guarenteed to loose. There's got to be some other point to all this nonsense. Yeah, the contests are just stupid, there has to be some other point to it. Wait. why are Storm and Wolverine facing each other? I do think that there is no way the X-Men can win. Don't think they are even meant to at this point.
