Wow, even for an Ohio State fan like myself, this is AWESOME to watch. I guarantee you I would not say that about other Michigan wins in the Horseshoe, such as '96, for example. I had only seen pics of this game until now. Wow. "The Game" my friends. The Game.

It must have been impossible for the coaches and players to work out exactly where the first down mark was, with all of the field markings totally obscured by the snow.

WolverineHistorian, you are a gem. As a MASSIVE Michigan fan, and an eccentric hater of Ohio State, the work you do is incredible. Thank you for doing what you do. This game is one of the most iconic games in the history of the greatest rivalry in sports and because of you, Michigan fans can relive this legendary game.

Then you've had a rough quarter century, the only wins the wolverines have had vs Ohio State are a vacated win + 2 wins by way of cheating in 2021 & 2022.

I was born and grew up in An Arbor, and was 13 when I breathlessly listened to the broadcast of this game. Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio State were the principal candidtates for the conference championship and thus a trip to the Rose Bowl to meet the Pacific Coast champion. Some "if"s had to happen for each of the three teams for them to become champion. Unlike the video, the storm was so bad that there were times when the announcers could not tell what was happening on the field. We were better informed about the Northwestern-Illinois game, and finally learned that Northwestern had won. Thus the victory for Michigan gave it the conference championship. That game in Michigan is now known as "the roses which bloomed in the snow."

My parents, who were both students at Ohio State at the time, were at this game. They had just been married two months, and they walked from their High Street apartment in the Clintonville area to the game. Mom said she wore multiple layers of clothing to withstand the cold temperature. Dad was one of the guys who came down to the field before the game started to pull off the tarps. I must have asked him about this game 100 times over the years.

@@uradouchebag100 I was only kidding my friend. But I certainly remember this game quite well as I started following Ohio State for the 1949 Rose Bowl. And as a 13 year old boy Vic Janowicz was my favorite Buckeye probably of all time. I still remember the front page of Street & Smith magazine that had the picture of Janowicz with the caption "A coaches dream and an opponets nightmare". Take care my friend.

Both teams felt it was better for the other team to have the ball and let them make the mistake rather than try to do something on offense and instead you make the mistake. In HORRIFIC weather conditions such as this field position becomes so very important.

The best strategy on this day was to forget about your own offense and force the other team to handle the ball. Ohio State had the superior offense that year but never got a chance to use it. The following season, Woody Hayes came to town.

30 years later almost to the exact day, also in Columbus, Michigan beat OSU again 9-3, ironically the weather was almost perfect. 55 degress, sunny, no wind. Low score was the result of very good defense on both sides, not a blizzard.

@InRichRodWeTrust I doubt that 98% of deep snows happen after Dec 25th, especially in Jan-Feb. Regular season games would have a once every 90 years or so chance of a "SNOW BOWL". Add that most really heavy down falls occur from 6pm until 9am and not in the noon to 6pm window makes it unlikely a blinding white blizzard game will be played. There are reasons why few BOWL GAMES played in Jan. are blizzard bowls. The averages just are not high for such daytime events.
