This is my favourite Wolves in the Throne Room song, and I was kind of frightened to listen this live, non female vocals, version. Well they just nailed it, i just fail to express the feelings that their music brings to me. The dance must begin as dusk gathers around

Black Metal transcends any ideology. It is a form of art and expression. Even though I love Gorgoroth, I am pleased that this band speaks about something truly important. The earth and nature and the will to return to something simpler, richer and more primal.

Somewhat, they have their own style. This is Cascadian black metal because bands have been popping up around the Cascadian mountains with this type of style of black meta. There is however Blackened Shoegaze or Blackgaze as some people call it that is heavily influenced by shoegaze music, same goes for blackened post punk to come out of France, lots of bands there. Check out Shyy, Alcest, Amesoeurs, De Arma, Dopamine, Crooked Necks, Fen, Hypomanie, Deafheaven to get you started, awesome stuff.

they need to release a live album. this performance is beyond epic.
@Jeremy_Fisher12 жыл бұрын
It appears that you don't understand. Cascadian Black Metal refers to where the band comes from, like USBM or Norwegian BM. It Refers to the Cascade mountain range area that goes from northern California up into Canada. Cascadian Black Metal is more than just WITTR, there are a lot of them over here in the Pacific Northwest. WITTR are just the most popular. The other ones that not everybody has heard of include Skagos, Ash Borer, Wake, Panopticon, Echtra, the list goes on.

First of all it is one of the coolest names ever for a band! As far as discussion of whether they are black metal, I would classify them as Doom/Black metal. Their CDs/albums have sometimes 4 songs, but the total running time like 45:00 mins! ha ha. Great for vegetating at home, or listening to when driving. They are unique, and fun to listen to sometimes.

I wouldnt call them ground breaking but very good at what they do. To be groundbreaking you need to evolve- ULVER a classic example It takes big cojones, because as soon as you do, haters will be out if force. Hope WITTR keep evolving and express themselves honestly, like all artist should in all forms of art.

I see a lot of arguments on here on wether it's Black metal or not, but I think Black metal since it's begging has been constantly redefining itself from Venom to Bathory two bands Gervinho credit with shaping the art in its early stage themselves had different opinions on the subject then the second wave Norwegian BM many of this waves founders see true black metal died but even there style was leaps from the first wave. I think WITTR have strong elements of black metal but as I mentioned before have continued the trend of evolving the sound it's just my opinion.

there are "post" derivatives of a lot of genres. post-rock, post-punk, post-hardcore, etc. it doesn't mean that all the rock/punk/hardcore bands are gone, it means that their music is stylistically a result of those genres but distinct enough to not be included in the genre proper. post- bm is usually more atmospheric, may not rely on blast beats so much, you can actually hear the bass, and the songs aren't mainly about satan/paganism/atheism. wittr sing about nature and shit and sound "pretty."
@triplesixmafia12 жыл бұрын

The only thing I don't "understand" in regards to the genre is the purpose of delivering the lyrical element in such a shrilling manner? They claim to be influenced by Neurosis..clearly, that band has a much different approach to the lyrical portion. I do not mean this as offensive..I simply do not understand the purpose.
