Im ashamed to say Id probably have laughed at Malinda when I was younger. Being more humbled with age it's sore on the heart seeing someone in such tragic circumstances. Some are so affected by their addiction the basic cognitive skills become lost but Malinda has a chance if she gets out of the rut she's in & thinks of herself with more value in mind. Its easy to mock & criticise people but our vulnerable men & women are more complicated & precious but they've all too often been led to believe they're worthless & since childhood. I hope Malinda finds herself showered in enough blessings to feel she's worth & capable of the work needed to bring her out of the darkness & back to the light of life

that's a really kind thing to say, I think sometimes people forget that lots of drug addicts have been abused and/or been exposed to hard drugs in the home. To me this is just really sad, she's obviously not getting the help she needs going in and out of jail. In prison there's often drug rehab programs and even just the fact it's not easy to get drugs forces people to become clean. I'm surprised they aren't doing that with this lady, I really hope she somehow gets help because it's an awful feeling knowing that you're basically just watching someone who's probably going to die from some aspect of the way she lives life

Noone is going to care more about her than she cares about herself. Noone is going to step in and rescue her. If she has family, they either 1. Are like her or 2. Grew tired of her drinking etc and gave up a long time ago. The older one gets the more resistant they are to change, and it's very hard to change even if the person wants to. The likelihood of her ever becoming a productive citizen, is exceedingly low. I wouldn't be surprised if she has " wet brain" from alcoholism, which if lm not mistaken is permanent.

The help is few and far between. You also have to want help, and I don't think she's at that point in her life. Getting good help in the states is hard.

It’s very, very hard to help people against their will in the US. The only mechanism for dealing with people at the edge of society in many places is the police. And the only way for them to handle it legally is to arrest them. There is no national/federal level agency that provides mental health or drug addiction services. That is handled and the state/local level. So the amount of support available varies wildly depending on location. There are some national food assistance programs, but that doesn’t begin to address the issues this woman is facing.
