"Woman, Behold your Son" (John

Bible message preached at Grace Bible Church, August 30, 2020. Pastor Gregg Bing preaching on "Woman, Behold your Son" (John 19:26-27).
Most of those who surrounded Jesus' cross were enemies who mocked and taunted Him. However, there were a small group of friends standing beside the cross who loved Him. Most of these were women, including His mother, who must have felt great anguish as she watched her firstborn suffer and die such a cruel death. In the midst of the great work of redemption, the accomplishment of God's eternal purpose, Jesus showed His love and care for His mother. He entrusted her to the care of the beloved disciple, John, with the words, "Woman, behold your son," and to John, "Behold, your mother."

Pastor Gregg Bing [Grace Bible Church]. The Apostle John was Mary, [The mother of Jesus] nephew. The reason why Jesus committed His mother to John's care, was because Mary's own sons weren't believers at that time. Jn 7: 3--5 and John was Mary's nearest believing relative, being he nephew. Joseph was most likely dead at this time and the eldest son was responsible looking after their mother. Jesus was thinking about the spiritual welfare of His mother, so He gave His mother into John's care. Biblical proof of John being the Cousin of Jesus. Mt 27: 56 says, At the cross was Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children. [Who was Salome]. Mk 15: 40 mentions the same women and names the mother of Zebedee's children, "Salome" So we see, [1]Mary the wife of Cleophas, the parents of James the less and Joses. [2]Mary Magdalene. [3]Salome. John adds the mother of Jesus. Jn 19: 25.. It reads like this, In the Greek. Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, His mother, and His mother's sister. AND with them Mary the wife of Cleophas and Mary Magdalene. Please not, there's no mention [By name] of the third woman at the cross. John mentioned her as the sister of Mary, making John and his brother James, Mary's nephews and the cousins of Jesus. The reason Peter James and John were part of the inner circle of Jesus, is because Peter was fishing partners with James and John. That's why Jesus took them three to raise up Jairus's girl. Mk 5: 37. The mountain where Jesus was transfigured. Mk 9: 1--2. The garden Mk 14: 33. Paul said they seem to be the pillars. Gal 2: 9.
