Here is a link to an article breaking down the cost of building with the Earth Bag method. It's a lot cheaper than most people anticipate. goo.gl/rh5uVq What is your favorite building method you've seen so far?

Yeah, I'm definitely into earthships as well. I do like strawbale as well because of the super thick walls too. Every windowsill is a shelf.

Earthships are so zero energy consumptive everyone should love them. I like the idea too of using recycled materials and shipping containers dug into the side of a steep building block / plot of land. Tiny houses seem to be good but I don't feel they are altogether practical for more than a couple of people. Some people lose sight of the whole point - to minimise waste and downsize our lifestyles. What about you Dylanmagaster? What is your favourite?

Leslie Dailey. I am Lisa neighbor and friend. She is a woman of many talents and is all she says she is. Also, the structures are built by herself and others who participate in a work bank program where your hours of labour are ' banked' and when you need help on a project of your own you can 'withdraw' the type of labour you need . Its a great system . Also , anyone wanting to learn how to do this in a hands on way is welcome to come and help. Please ask questions before critisizing 🙂🙂

I like that idea of banking labor, debt and credits. Someone tried that at the place I live, bartering, such as, I could make bread for the family for so many weeks,, someone would help me build in exchange The idea dried up when there were more 'takers' than givers'. I have bought a book on this style of house, I love the idea of this type of dwelling other than living in a cluster of squares of the conventional housing

Mindy McNamara That's good use of people and talents. Our town has a kind of work bank called a time exchange where you volunteer work , talent, time and get a service of the same of something you need. It's a work in progress. Could be something as mundane as walking a dog or house chores. Then they may help you paint or dig a garden. It's a good idea but also only works with motivated unselfish participants.

This is good accommodation.I will be pleased if on visiting Mali in Africa, you give the same positive comments about their dwellings. The problem with some of you is that when you visit Africa and see the same architecture, you call it primitive and backward, but when the same is done in USA, its cool and very sustainable. As humans lets just learn to appreciate each other and our differences.Lets learn from each other as equal partners on mother earth.

I was just last summer looking to buy land out in Joshua Tree, but the permits and codes are pretty outrageous these days. Also, you can't have a water tank either. They say you have to hook up to their water pipeline system. But there is not water lines everywhere out there to hook up to. They say I would have to drill a well, but wells out there are, like 800 feet down. Translates to about $15,000. Oh and you can't drill within a quarter mile of one of Joshua Trees wells. It's like they pretty much don't want anybody living out there anymore (unless you move into one of there cookie-cutter union built neighbor hoods). I myself have decided to move to Arizona. Much more relaxed codes...you can have water tanks if you like...and just a lot more relaxed in general.

Yeah I hear that the weather in NM is pretty extreme though. I've actually decided on Ariz. At least there you can have water tanks and haul water. But there (even if you have a well) you have to pay for the water. That is if your well produces over 35 gallons an hour or something. But you can collect rain water and not have to pay for it...at this time anyway. Also, codes are more relaxed as long as you are not building a public building. If it's your own home it's a lot easier.

Unfortunate exterior color but otherwise wonderful. The interiors are enchanting. Was the idea behind he color to emphasize that it rose up from local soil? But we can clearly see that the local soil is a pretty pale beige, not a mid tone brown. The brown makes it look dropped in place rather than rising up.

The interior is lovely, I'm just wondering why it's taken me so long to figure they look like giant turds. She should paint them a bit more red

Red would cause too much passion and incite rage and being a darker frequency from brown it would disrupt the temperature balance of the dome, the knowledge she's gained is actually from attainment, what she's done is monumental there's a shift happening and people who are getting grounded are doing far better than the rest who believe in the illusion that there will be a return to normal 💜☮️

She was most probably using long rolls of PP bags although you can use jute bags or recycle used rice or grain sacks

Love the background music! The off the grid Dome Homes in the desert has a very strong appeal. I love this fine ladies laid back personality and her obvious many work skills. Great, great alternative living style as opposed to jammed up urban living style most of us live in. Thank you for this dream video!

Totally cool place and concept, but come on, the indigenous peoples have been building adobe homes for millennia with out the use of petroleum derived polymer coatings, polyvinyl chloride piping or Ikea furniture for that matter.

Well, to get off the topic of left vs, right, the current codes are not local. She is referring to the 2007 Uniform Building Code. Which is updated every few years. We have had big weather events and fires lately, so likely many changes are in response to those; not 1 woman's earth bag house. Not to say unconventional building isn't discriminated against. Trump should sign a "right to try" bill for housing. If you are really poor and won't ever be able to afford traditional housing, you should be able to try new technologies not allowed by code.

Stephanie Burns I think the problem is if you build something not to code and later SELL or RENT it. That’s why we have certain building codes.
