I have seen other vids on this and they left out a big chunk. Clarence’s wife stood by him and did a LOT of work to get him cleared. She was ostracized by the rest of the family. Their marriage didn’t survive after he got out, but she never believed he did it.

After almost 7 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit, Clarence Elkins was exonerated and settled with the state of Ohio for US$1.075 million. He later filed a civil suit against the Barberton police for failing to disclose the incriminating statement by Earl Mann during his 1999 arrest. Barberton police sought to have the case dismissed, but failed. Elkins later settled with the Barberton police for $5.25 million.

Cops decided they wanted to end this quickly and get a notch on their belt and move on. The last thing a liar with a big ego wants is to let an innocent man out of prison so they work with their disgusting homies in the system to ensure literally nothing gets done to exonerate him and the disgusting judges, and the disgusting prosecutors, and the disgusting lawmakers of the land did everything imaginable to bury this innocent man in prison and especially when they knew evidence was there that would absolutely destroy their case. Their egos would not allow for them to be extremely wrong and what’s even worse is like you said, the kid said “looks like” not “it is my uncle” and these monsters who ALL belong in prison for life just ran with twisting her words and forcing her to say ii is him despite her needing extreme pressure to do so and even worse yet is how she comes back years later trying desperately to free her innocent uncle and no one will hear any of it because they know they put an innocent man in prison and they would rather kill him in there than to admit they absolutely lied and pushed lies they made up to get their notches. Worse yet is the real killer admitting that he couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t arrest him for the murder that he admits doing on the cop car on video, nope, not these psycho cops who all need life in prison for being scum if the earth system and power abusers. It’s not until the victim “sneaks” the cigarette to his lawyer and it matches the dna left on the original victim and he happens to have been a known sexual predator living next door that was let out of prison 3 days earlier and cops blew right past that guy because they decided they needed to for sure finish up and bury this innocent man in prison instead of investigating the obvious likely perpetrator. I’m disgusted! Truly this is sickening! $29M for a violent felon who overdosed in police custody resulting in an innocent police officer being given life in prison, well this man really is innocent unlike felony Floyd and this man should absolutely get a payout beyond this disgusting payout for a non crime. Holy crap we need to drain the scum out of our system

YEAH, That's what I said!!!!!! Forensic Files featured this story & she was the one who was on the show, talking about what they went thru, trying to get him outta prison. SHE'S the one who did all the work, NOT him!! She actually was the one who told him about the DNA, & told him to try to get something with his saliva - like his cup, a fork or spoon, etc.... So he got the cig. butt, gave it to her, & SHE'S the one who gave it to the lab and gave him the results! It amazes me how she's not even mentioned at all, & he mentions his new wife, but didn't say a word about the REAL hero in this story, his EX WIFE!!!!

The girlfreind of the actual killer who brought that psycho into the neighbourhood is absolutly dispicable. She left a six year old girl who had been assaulted and left for dead with her dead grandma outside, naked for 45 minutes! What an inhuman monster who brought another monster to that area. Also the cops did not check on the former inmate who was living next door. How was that possible. How many people would have to be bad at their job to get an innocent man into prison.

Confused why the show stressed how complex the “mixed dna sample was.” very rarely are crime scene dna samples single profile. deconvoluting two different profiles in a mixture is not new. complex, maybe, but made easier if they know that the victims is one of the contributors of the dna.

Did they not bother to see if there were any other cameras along the road of the route the car took leaving the trailer park? N our Justice system is so flawed it is unreal. Ppl that have had solid alibis have been convicted. To arrest n convict someone b4 DNA was tested 😕. N the judges 9.5 out of 10x will not give a 2nd thought to accepting an appeal I think cause they want everyone to think the system is perfect and works when it most certainly is n does not!!!

I swear Iwatched something on Clarence's case a few years ago & it was his wife at the time (the victims daughter) who tried to do everything to help Clarence. She was the one who said DNA could exonerate him & told him to try to get a cig butt or something. Her whole family wanted to watch Clarence hang & she was the only one who believed in his innocence. I know they got divorced but it's pretty terrible of him to act like he was the one who did everything, came up with the idea to collect the DNA, etc... & not even give her a thanks. Shame on him.

Everyone around her told her tonsay that it was him. They had evidence that proved he was innocent, the girl took back her testimony. The court and the officers refused to acknowledgechad evidence and still said he guilty. They purposely tried Prevent him from getting evidence that would prove his innocence.

Terrible failure of LE regarding the conviction of Clarence. Had they actually conducted a proper investigation the truth would have been uncovered. It would have started with the neighbours the six year old went to for help. Why didn’t they call police? Why was she made to stand naked and bloody at their front door for 45 minutes? 🤯 How many years was Clarence imprisoned for? One can only hope that those involved are removed from office and dramatic changes in procedure have been implemented.

Chris Hanson, et al., always knock it out of the park. Victims need to have their stories told. But Chris, Anna, Michelle, and all tell the stories so well to keep the audiences interested. Great job. In Clarence's case, law enforcement failed. Eye witness testimony is highly unreliable. Unbelievable case. The odds of being in the same prison with the real killer, Earl Mann, was nothing short of divine intervention. What a story. So well told. Kudos.

I sure hope they find the culprit and I'd like to say have the death penalty used but here in NE we have a murderer in Prison who chopped up a little boy and fed it to his dog but he's in prison for life. I could go on and on about all those in prison for life which is crazy because these guys are getting 3 hots and a cot and it will be for decades. That's not a deterrent! Hence another murder in Kearney, NE because people have no fear of accountability.

From what I read about years ago clearance wife is the one that did all the work but yet she was discredited. They had a show years ago called I solved a murder. Watch that for the truth. Melinda Elkins Dawson

@5:55, “two passer-byers” Seriously? Don’t you have to have a College degree to be a Detective? The correct word is: Passersby. I could understand someone mistakenly say Passer-bys,… but “Passer-byers” c’mon!!!!

Chris Hansen gets off on other people's misery, whether it be to catch a predator or a murderer. He wouldn't have a job without so much crime in the US. Seems to make him feel better about himself by exposing others...

How does a Jury convict a man that the DNA clearly says he's innocent? What is wrong with people? A jury today is terrifying for an innocent person.

Nobody should go to prison over the word of a six year old. I feel so bad for her but that's just not evidence. If I'm on a jury for any case even If my opinion is they are guilty..I need to see forensic evidence. Circumstantial cases are bogus and shouldn't even go to court
