After a lifetime in various forms of construction, I have learnt to frown upon novices who take on the role of general contractor without substantial construction experience. It's not for the faint of heart, especially on the scale of this monster house. I don't know what this couple went through, but I cannot imagine the epic reno nightmare did not contribute to the result. Dave appears to have mental problems, IMHO. The house appears to be a physical manifestation of this.

The fact that he had his MOM on the house trust was another indicator that he was leaning another direction. This didn’t cover enough points. In Florida, the courts lean more towards the woman. Hard to understand her mindset and where was her son living during this time? Also, the ex-wife wasn’t smart enough to register that poison given over a period of time can damage the system bad enough to where it doesn’t recover for years (if ever). Not knowing anything about the person before getting in a relationship is risky. @@haroldfrets5468 I hear you and I respect that. Today, it's no longer "the Internet" though. It's changed to trendy apps, and it's become the trendy thing to be on these apps. In fairness, I know a lot of people who have met their spouses online/through these apps. I don't personally fault them, and respectfully, don't necessarily think it's always desperation, but I think what is so worrisome is, when you talk to 90% of young people now, they think that the way you find a date is using apps. People no longer even know how to meet someone organically. And at the same time they all complain about how frustrating and depressing these apps are, lol. They have really ruined dating in general. Again, I don't personally judge people for using them (and I know many happily married through them), but you have to be careful and it's dangerous that people rely on them as their ONLY way of meeting people.

Maybe the starts and stops of numerous contractors caused it. None of them ever finished any one project so there was no need for a code inspection. Dave was unquestionably gay and was marrying Shanti merely as a beard and to get his hands on enough of her money to totally make over his house. It's a good thing they released him because that allowed them to learn about his visits to the bathhouse but I didn't really need to hear about his visits to gay bathhouses or hear about what the employee saw him doing to another man to know he was not straight. The whispery tone in his voice was NOT the tone a MAN would take. It reminded me of no one so much as Marilyn Monroe when she was singing, "Happy birthday, Mr. President" to John Kennedy. Shanti may have been fooled by his pretense of being straight but she never should have been drawn into funding renovations on a property when her husband never even condescended to put HER name on the deed. I think the detective was asking him the wrong question when she asked him if Shanti caught him with another woman. I think she should have asked him if she caught him with a man or if she just learned that he was gay. And as far as the house was concerned, no matter how much cash she put up to fix the property, it still was going to belong to her husband AND HIS MOTHER! Perhaps she was desperate to find a new daddy for her son, who knows? but she made some really bad choices when it came to this guy and she ended up paying the ultimate price. I was with my husband for 31 years before he died and in all those years, NOT ONE TIME did he own a home with his mother or with anyone other than ME! If he had even suggested such a thing we certainly would never have made it to 31 years!I BTW, all that blubbering he was doing on the 911 call and to the police was as fake as a three-dollar bill. He had no concern for Shanti or he would not have finessed her out of any part of ownership in a property when SHE alone was bankrolling the costly renovations! I can't remember where I found this but somewhere I heard phone calls between David and his mother that were made while he was in jail. It appears that his mom was at least in the early stages of dementia and though she obviously was trying her best, she couldn't keep straight the things that he was telling her to do. Those are some of the most bizarre calls I have ever heard.

Weird how you can know someone is crying 'crocodile tears,' even over the phone. So, this guy decided he was going to do "man stuff" by remodeling the house, but then, after destroying it, he realized he didn't know what the h*ll he was doing, got frustrated, and ends up killing his wife after she had had enough of his BS? Also, most people understand the concept of load-bearing / bearing walls. That idiot was very lucky that place didn't come down on his head. I think the guy bought the house, that he was going to have his wife pay to remodel, while never putting her on the trust, and then, after she figured out who (what) he actually was and left him, she'd be doing so empty-handed. That, or he never intended on her leaving at all......not alive. I don't remember them mentioning if he had a life insurance policy on her. At least the creep will have *LOTS* of guys to 'blo' *IN PRISON.*

This rings home for me because there is a man I'm interesting in getting to know and I have to constantly remind myself that the image I create of him only exist in my head and may not necessarily be emblematic of who he really is. This story is just a reminder that our brains are not our friends when it comes to choosing good relationship partners. Our brains will conjure up all sorts of things about a person and then turn around and believe them. It is really important that we take our time, listen to friends and family and give people time to reveal their true character. Relationships can be so scary. My heart goes out to her son. I grew up like that and it caused me a lot of grief, often makes me so sad because i really didnt know any better. Sounds ridiculous cause I’m not that way at all now. But you also have to consider I grew up in a village in Alaska away from the world of serious crimes. But when your kids get into the real world you can really get hurt, raped, murdered because you are not suspicious of people when you should be. So it’s a fine line between letting your kids grow up over protected, and scaring them about the evil in the world.
