First, most states require funeral/burial/cremation costs be paid from the estate and life insurance. If ALL she took was the amount needed to pay for the rest of the funeral costs, that is actually correct. Further, in many states, the caregiver is paid by the state for the disabled family member. They can still have an outside job. It's not a scam. You don't have to be there 24 hours a day - there is a lot more to caregiving than just being there. Dressing and bathing, phone calls, schlepping to appointments, cooking, shopping for groceries and necessities, repairing, organizing, cost of gas/vehicle use. Easily, I spend 4 hours a week just on the phone handling my disabled brothers needs (I don't get paid for it either). Finally, the woman needs dental services.

This is just a crappy end, and I am really upset that the defendants sexuality was brought into this -- she deserves her own peaceful private life, without people commenting on this and that, they can mind their own home, and let other people have a happy life. The brother felt as though the defendant had a need for the money more than his sister or her family. The young woman was in dire need to reinvent herself to be become a better person. It was his money to do whatever he wanted, not hers to distribute the way the plaintiff felt was in her own best interest. The funeral was more expensive that her brother knew. the 5k didn't cover the costs. So, upon opening the safe, the cash that was there, she took enough out to cover the additional funeral expenses. As Judge Judy said, the safe should have been opened in front of her if the plaintiff was going to be honest and follow through with her brothers request. maybe the brother felt the defendant did more for him on his behalf that the sister and family. I personally think she illegally took that money from the state for supposedly taking care of him. If you listen to her, I think the first part, she said her brother could take care of himself and then back tracked when JJ asked why she was getting paid then. Honestly that young lady probably helped him more than she did and maybe that's why he was putting that money away for her. I just wish she or her sister had proof of how much that was
@MommyLion Жыл бұрын
And I think the brother knew sis was getting paid by the state to care for him, which I don't really understand how she is caring for him if he lives in his own place with someone else? I don't think the defendant did NOTHINH for him! She was probably doing more caretaking duties than sis!

@@jessieh9127 You are allowed to have a job while getting paid to care for a disabled family member. Do you honestly think the state wasn't aware of the payments? JJ has never cared for a disabled person in her life - the money only helps - it does not cover the full expense of the care, transportation or costs of needs not covered by Medicaid.

Judge Judy slipped on this one. The plaintiff said there was $7k in the safe, yet she then stated that she didn't know the amount 🤔 the defendant said that she only received $5, 510. The cost of the funeral was a little over $7k, so it stand to reason that the plaintiff took the balance of the funeral money from the defendants money. And considering that the defendant was one of three that had the keys to their home...I seriously think that she took the things that were left to the plaintiff.
@zahrans Жыл бұрын
Oh she knew. Didn't you catch the bit where JJ grilled how much the funeral cost and how much the life insurance payout was? The issue was there was no real way of proving the actual amount in the safe, even if the plaintiff initially said there was 7k.
@SummerBayJournal Жыл бұрын
@@zahrans The plaintfiff saying 7k was enough "proof" (ie beyond reasonable doubt) that the defendent was owed $1,500. It would be different if it was just the defendent guessing the amount (as Judy points out). But it's not just that. The plaintiff herself stated 7k at the start. That's enough to award the defendent the remaining 1500. Judy slipped by not awarding that, whether she "knew" or not.
