I absolutely love this film. It's more cerebral than the usual sci fi film and it really makes you think. Carl Sagan really wrote a good story here. Plus, the casting was top notch. Jodie Foster is never in a bad film. She's bloody brilliant.

One of my favorite Scifi movies ... this is a very underated movie

While many have critique this film for being too verbose and heady, I think they do the film and audiences a disservice. The themes in this film remain critical today- perhaps even more so than when it was released. The tension between science and the unknown should be viewed as generative and not divisive. But that is far easier said than done. Foster's performance was stellar (pun intended).

A Sci-Fi Classic. It reminds me of Sci-Fi flicks like original The Day the Earth Stood Still where it's not about tons of cool fantasy action or world building but more about exploring ideas and science.

This type of reverse time dilation cannot work for people living on Earth because it requires the planet experiencing less time lapse to have insanely high speed or gravity (similar to black hole). So, a second on that planet can be 18 hrs on earth, but a second on earth can never be 18 hrs in even zero gravity.
