"The first 3 strike you attack is his kidney, liver and his chin. If he's not going down, just run." That's the efficiency of silat. Only enemy's first punch needed, you counter it with a decisive blows in vital area, making sure your enemy will not getting up anymore. But if your blitz counter didn't do shit to him, just run away, as he said.

Agree. It’s not worth expending too much of your energy to subdue an attacker if he won’t go down in the first three strikes. Especially if the attacker is bigger than you. At the very least withdrawing will help you reset and prepare a different strategy should your attacker chase after you.

I remember them days of being the teachers demonstration partner. You get the crap kicked out of you. And it’s your job to make your teacher look good. And if he makes accidental contact, to play it off. It made me a lot better at my art because of it. It taught me how to take hits, locks, chokes and throws. So when I did have to use my art to defend myself. I understood what was coming and didn’t fear it. It also taught me humility and meekness as well. When you see the teacher in whatever art, use a particular guy in his class. That’s the dude you want to get next too. He might not be the best fighter. But he’s usually the second best teacher with pointers to make your art even better. I love this teacher. Reminds me of my own Arnis teacher.

As a Sandan (3rd Dan), in Aikido with an extensive back ground in multiple forms of street defense, over 30 years, including the highly respected Solar, i'm till questioning most of these knife attack defenses I see on the internet... Not one would work on the street... First, you won't have the chance to square off in a knife attackand, (extremely rare)... Second, the attacker, (Uke), will have a death grip on that knife and it will be almost impossible to snap or flick or remove the knife from his hand, or grab the knife arm of the attacker, (many instructors teach the double hand flick), which will guarantee three things... 1). Most of the flesh will be cut from your hand or arm, 2). You will start going into shock, and 3). If the Uke chooses, will then proceed to stab you very vigorously... multiple times... to death... instructor So go ahead my friends, try that or most any of these fancy Hollywood fantasy knife defenses on a seasoned street fighter or a knife wielding pro out to rob or kill you...Only luck in a hospital bed will enable you to let us know how these techniques worked for you.

Remember people,, you CAN'T start out trying to do these moves as fast as he's showing them.... You have to start out VERY slowly. Get used to the locomotion of the movements. Stay moving as slow as you need to, in order to TRULY memorize (with MUSCLE MEMORY) all of the proper technique, form, and body postures. It needs to be a proper, yet AUTOMATIC response. So remember, that when starting out,, "slow is smooth, and smooth is fast"!

"run away but now i can't run, i have to stay because im a hero." Funny. But the real reason of silat is always self defence and not for a purposeful fight. Rarely MMA using silat as its not meant for looking for a fight. But rather, paralysing opponent and flee. Sidenote, i can do the ankle sweep easily, the rest was too fast for a common folk like me to follow. I'll remember the ankle sweep instead, thanks!!

The more I learn about Silat, the more I appreciate it. It is a very practical and fluid martial art. I think even the prodigal Bruce Lee would have appreciated its merits, if he have had the chance to know more about it. Silat is definitely among my top favorite martial art systems. My own way of fighting is similar, but more Taijutsu inspired. Seemingly, the founders and developers of both systems worked with similar realities and came with similar solutions. But it is good to share between systems to expand our horizon.
