@ShaunCheah2 жыл бұрын
@@Green-rp6br I just looked it up and a gestational carrier uses eggs and sperm from the couple and the womb of the third party, whereas a surrogate uses sperm from the couple and the eggs and womb of the third party. So with a surrogate, the surrogate would be the biological mother. With a gestational carrier, there'd be no genetic link between the carrier and the child. After learning this, I'd say gestational carrier sounds way more preferable if the option is available.

The surrogate mom must be one of the most generous, selfless person I've ever heard of. Pregnancy and especially childbirth can bring all sorts of health issues, some of them long term. And not many mothers dare comment about this because there's stigma and shame that society puts onto motherhood. The friend of the surrogate mother... Well, the two of them love each other, but I don't understand ever asking a friend to carry a baby, especially when adoption is a thing. Sure, adoption can be bureaucratic, expensive and it's not a trivial decision. But I think all types of couple should consider adopting as a first option, not as plan B or as a lesser alternative. Some folks apend thousands trying to conceive when they could instead welcome a child who already exists and is looking for a home.
@peanutbutter96192 жыл бұрын
how do you know that adoption was never a topic? I don’t know how it is in the states but in Germany there are many many hard criteria for adopting a child, one of them being that you can’t be older than a certain age, 41 definitely being above. It also sounded more like the friend offered to be a surrogate and wasn’t asked to. professional surrogates are extremely expensive. you do not know what the couple went through before they decided on this option
@amaradejo2 жыл бұрын
@@peanutbutter9619 You are correct. Like in most Cut videos, people try to reach to conclusions and assumptions based on a few minutes. And that's what I did here. So it's probably just a lot of projection of my own. That said, in general terms I hope adoption was more widespread and considered like a first option by most couples; and I also maintain that the friend is incredibly generous and brave.
@vloggetts2 жыл бұрын
I'm not from the US but I've heard you can spend thousands on legal fees trying to adopt there and that adoption brokers can be pretty unethical. Also adopting is a very different thing to raising a child that is biologically yours. I've seen a lot of discourse from adopted people being like it shouldn't be about your desire to raise a child if you can't biologically have them but instead about providing a loving home to a child that needs one. Adoptive parents have a responsibility to mediate children's relationships to their biological family, keep them in touch with their birth culture if that is different to their own culture and take trauma-informed parenting classes because even if the children haven't experienced abuse, they will have sustained trauma from the act of adoption alone. I definitely think adoption can be intended as an act of love and that all these children deserve a loving home but it should probably be done in a way that centres the needs of the child rather than those of the parents and takes into account the experiences of adopted people, and it shouldn't be considered as a default for people who can't have kids but want kids
@Ambi10212 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with you.
@ESWilliams092 жыл бұрын
The surrogate said she offered it. Also, pregnancy/birth experiences are wildly different. Some women are very sick throughout a pregnancy and some women actually go through a "reset" and health issues they had before are resolved. Some women enjoy being pregnant and parents but may feel they don't have the resources to properly care for another child. Doing this for someone else you care about is a gift. You also don't know about the other avenues the couple considered beforehand so overall your comment is presumptuous and ignorant.

@@theEduEnthusiast people who want kids don’t say that they don’t 🤷🏻♀️the only people who say that are people who were told they can’t have any and had to deal with that fact. They usually have to accept it.

I’m so thankful for the people who make these videos and the people who agree to be in them. It’s so importantly to share numerous viewpoints of the human experience.

It’s nice to show like different people but I wish we could see a wife and husband. So we know if the baby made the relationship harder and how it was like and how they were able to over come it

"Gestational carrier" sounds so dehumanizing. Like she's just a vessel or some kind of machine. But maybe that's helpful to emotionally distance yourself from the child when you have to give it away after it was a part of yout body for nine months?

I wonder how truthful the surrogate mother was about being not attached, I mean she carried for 10 months idk as a mother I feel this whole surrogacy thing is just weird

It's soooo important to reduce the stigma around surrogacy bc so many people pursue that option due to their own health issues. And there are so many different health conditions that can lead someone to not be able to carry a pregnancy. Everyone in this video is so lucky to have had the resources and access to health care to become parents! And parenthood should absolutely be a choice, not something that is forced upon someone

🥺 I recently had a baby boy but I had actually chosen the name Odette for a girl before I knew I was having a boy. I'm 34 and he'll likely be my only child but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't want to also have a girl. I've always wanted a boy and a girl.
