I don't care about what people think of me. I hope my 2010 lexus can last me another 5 years. If I get fired from my job, my rentals can cover my mortgage. This is the ultimate freedom. The first thing people around me told me to do was buy a new car. Why would I do that I keep my current car clean and well maintenance. @eddieb821003 ай бұрын
I'm a nurse. The vast majority of nurses I know are just trying to get through their 3 shifts and feed their families. RNs are wage workers, and we're talking about $30/hour when you're starting out. You can make $100k doing bedside nursing after a few years of experience and getting certifications and accreditations, or you can get into higher level practice like trauma or critical care. The thing is - the job is stressful and its easy discouraged by it. Honestly i think there are a small number of nurses on social media that get most of the attention and spread false information about nursing.
@Lovebk983 ай бұрын

Facts! I made sure to pay my 2017 off before I graduated RN school. Let me tell you the piece of mind of not being a slave to the clock baby I work my 3 and I’m out. When I want some extra I pick up only if there is a bonus attached and them two shifts handle my blow money. I save 3x’s the amount before I spend. That keeps my view realistic like if I can not make that money 3x’s it’s not worth the purchase. Thank God I own my home from 10years ago so I have a chill mortgage. I will have my home paid off in the next 7 years or less. THEN and only them will I upgrade. Investing and maxing out my nest eggs are my 7 year priority..
@NymphetamineCC3 ай бұрын
This. Social media is almost invariably outliers. Those American travel nurse contracts are by no means representative of what most nurses make. The biggest financial advantage for the typical nurse is the abundance of extra work, which means if you want to work 60 hours a week you can - however that’s not a sustainable practice. Likewise working an abundance of overtime doesn’t advance your career the way it can in other sectors. Working more than everybody else doesn’t automatically mean you get a promotion, since if you want to stay at the bedside, there really aren’t many available promotions. In fact nursing may be one of the few careers where some of the most desirable jobs, have some of the lowest salaries. For me I am hoping to transition to nurse education once I get too old/weak for bedside. I’ve been slowly picking away at my adult education certification. While educator jobs are harder to get, my annual salary will likely go down, do to there not being call or overtime. Personally I’m good with this, but it is interesting.

Y'all both right. I'm 45 years old and went through a bad divorce six years ago and lost everything so now I live with my sick parents and I take care of them as well. I work and make my own money and have my own transportation. I only make 53,000 a year and I have no kids. The point that I am trying to make is that every time I get paid which is weekly I always have a certain percentage of my paycheck goes to my savings account and into stock and am able to still pay off my bills and have money left over to hold me until I get paid again. My vehicle is a 99 GMC Yukon and I brought it with my stocks. I got it for 3,800 and it has a new motor and transmission and it's in really good shape so if I can budget my financials anyone can. I don't believe in 401Ks but it's good to have a certain amount of your paycheck to go towards stocks or some sort of high yield savings account so you can have your money work for you. It's called compounding interest.

When you take into consideration the stress of a nursing job, purchasing is basically retail therapy. It reduces stress. How many you all ever saw numerous people die? Blood everywhere? Choking on vomit? Getting yelled at by doctors and family members and patients? Being attacked sometimes physically or come close to it while on the job and management discourages pressing charges? What about seeing kids die on you? And nurses are there at the bedside oftentimes more than physicians. They see it all. The pressure of making one mistake can kill someone. It’s not like messing up a cake. U don’t kill someone when u mess up on your job.

True, but there are more constructive outlets to cope that don't requiring impulse shopping........granted I personally saw more death and suffering than I care to admit during the pandemic, but I was thankful for earning more money that I had ever seen in my years as an ICU RN, and I made an effort to save as much as I could every week. Much of my time off was spent playing poker (for fun), video games, and working out at home.
@supertenor5612 ай бұрын
@@ingothitrust5248 I’m spelling it out for people who may not understand why some nurses behave in that manner. There is Definitely better outlets… for some folk there’s nothing like physically seeing/touching the fruits of your labor and some folks just like seeing digitally their numbers increase and feeling the sense of security. Just knowing you can afford it. Knowing that you can walk off a lot with a Mercedes Benz AMG and not even be pressed behind it as if u purchased a low model Kia to be frugal.

And what of folks who have kids & aren't broke? Most of these so-called broke nurses aren't going broke because of kids. What happens when you get old & senile & inflation gradually devalues your savings? Kids help with all that. It's why S/korea, china & especially Japan are struggling with low birth rates. Some of you now become burdens on the young ones via social security or pension systems as they require having a work force that greatly outnumbers retired folks.

I jumped on the gravy train around 2022 when rates started to plateau and even decline. Even then, my highest contract in the ICU never exceeded 3400-3600 weekly gross, but I worked like a madman to pay off my debt with my very first contract, and I committed to saving at least 60-70% of my net take home each month. I saw many of my colleagues who were fortunate enough to travel during the early stages of COVID, making insane money, but consequently making insane purchases all the while and had virtually nothing to show for it, on top of being completely burned out.

Being broke is a phase of life. Now when I first became a RN I didn't/couldn't do all that shopping and traveling because I was raising 3 kids single. Once they got grown I start doing traveling nursing and yes spending but I also start saving and getting out of debit and I was already a home owner 2nd year of being a RN and had 100k equity in that. So Thank GOD those broke days are over but I can do better.

I’m a nurse and been a nurse for 10 years. The first 3 years of being an RN I worked 2 jobs to pay my loans off and dedicate 15% to 401k. During covid I took a contract within my hospital and made enough money to put a down payment on house with a low interest rate. I didn’t know a lot about it money or investing but KZbin and videos like this helps. It’s easy to spend everything you make as a nurse, due to the unlimited overtime and the ability to take off during the middle of the week for a vacay without using PTO.

She said, "there's a common "miscomception" that nurses are rich" ....... LOL. This woman can't even speak English words without massacring them ....... but she's a nurse? LOL. "Miscomception" ................. 🙄. Now, I'm just a regular, and OLD, guy. My Mother, sister and ex wife were all nurses. Yep, nurses make great money, but so do a LOT of people in lots of fields so, no, there's NOT a misconception that nurses are rich, any more than guys who work a TON of OT are rich, even though, relatively speaking, they are. Just like nurses, but again, all relative. Any nurse who flies first class is just a dummy with her money, and I'd bet she drives a luxury car too. Most nurses I know are very smart, and that intelligence transfers to their entire life - so they drive Hondas or Toyotas and have very healthy retirement accounts and nice homes or condominiums. I've never flown first class in my life (and I just got back from an almost month long trip to Europe and flew coach) and never would. My nephew (who is VERY well off and his wife makes more than him) flew their daughter back from Italy first class and it cost over seven GRAND. My ticket cost something like five hundred. I'll be fine in coach. Only uninformed or detached people believe that just because someone EARNS a great paycheck will believe that the person is "rich". Lots of "rich" people blow through their money as fast as they make it. EVERYTHING is relative in life.

I was asked to run a application/background check for a traveling nurse for a friend. Her income is 14k monthly, including her outside benefits she receives. She didn't have about $3800 to cover the rent and security for her temporary rental contract. No kids, just dogs, but bad credit in nursing over 10 years. I told my friend it's risky, she wants to proceed titles matter to her 😂😂. I've had my real estate business for last 10 years and now I've expanded to cybersecurity. Most of my clients who were nurses struggled with overspending. They certainly made the income.
