Mam, according to Ami Ganatra and Sage Valmiki Ahilya was aware that it was Indra in disguise and she told him that I too enjoyed as much as you enjoyed our union and that's the reason she was given a penance (प्रायश्चित ) to remain in the आश्रम and lead a solitary confinement. She committed sin awarely, so the point is if one does real प्रायश्चित with true conscience, the person can attain मोक्ष

Bahu Dhanyawadah for this wonderful series! One question: You say that Ahalya was taken advantage of, however in the Valmiki Ramayan, Baalkand, sarga 48, shlok 19, Valmiki says that Ahalya knew it was Indra and even then consented? This is why Gautama cursed her because she knowingly fell for temptation and therefore committed a sin. Is that right?
