i saw more people making new new-beat by the rule book, but few end up having the original feeling. This one does, very nice!

To be honest, New Beat is not a genre I listen to often. But I gotta say that the way you execute your tracks is a delight. I'm always hooked in for their entirety. All of the elements, the building of tension, the resonant filters bouncing off each other. Super tight grooves and arps. Love it!

Schtang What's "New Beat"? I'm old school and this, to me, is EBM aka Electro body music. Not to be confused with EDM... EBM was post punk era late 80's early 90's music often compared to Industrial and Goth music. This sounds very much like Front Line Assembly or Funker Vogt. Check out those groups. If you like this, you'll love those. 😉

very kind words, thank you very much! It's great when people like my music because of the style, but even greater if it's despite of the style ;)

Hmmm as I said, I don't really listen to this genre type very often. "New Beat" is how Shimanksi Beats and other similar artists refer to their music - sometimes I see Belgian New Wave as well. For my purposes I have no idea but for the most part I hear a slowed down techno kit, acid type synth work and distorted snares. Beyond that I'm only guessing though mate, you're probably right :)
@ShimanskiBeats

Yes, definitely EBM and not EDM. New Beat has its roots in EBM and is a precursor of European Techno and Dance music. In retrospect, the boundaries of the styles are quite blurry.

Yes sir, subscribing now. I love the drive-centric electronic styles, more please. Other variations with full lyrics kinda nausiate me, lyrics don't really belong in the genre IMO, and I can't find a good way to describe that thought while also validating your use of them. I enjoy the repeated sound clips (your method) that push the music forward rather than verses that force you to focus on the words, does that make sense? Anyways, again, love this stuff, was a pleasure watching you molest that board.
@ShimanskiBeats
@ShimanskiBeats 7 жыл бұрын
thanks again Sir :) ! And I agree completely with what you say. In my tracks I am mainly interested in the drive/groove and aim to make repetetive patterns by modulating the sounds and bring variation to the arrangement - that's what most people within this kind of electronic music do, though :)

I really do love the post processing you're doing with the sound. I'll sometimes add some reverb when I fix the audio in the computer, but I usually use my mixer and effects pedals. I really like the way you fill out the speakers. You're very inspiring. Keep up the great work. :) Take care, Sam.
@ShimanskiBeats
@ShimanskiBeats 7 жыл бұрын
thanks so much Sam! There is not so much postprocessing, just some compression, eq and very slight stereo enhancement. The effects are all on added through the mixer.
@machiwoomiapoo
@machiwoomiapoo 7 жыл бұрын
Sweet! What mixer are you using? Whatever it is it sounds amazing. I really enjoy your stereo field usage. I'm always trying to work at making this better. I use a Mackie, Yamaha, and MX-1 mixer. I run only a few things through a compressor. What did you use to get that stereo enhancement? It sounds really lush and full of energy. Great track. Keep it up. :) Sam.
@ShimanskiBeats
@ShimanskiBeats 7 жыл бұрын
For my live jams I use a Behringer Xenyx 2442. The stereo enhancement in the postprocessing is very subtle. I use a plugin called MStereo from a free bundle by Melda Productions. The main stereo image is done on the mixer. Usually I put kick, snare, and bass in the centre; the lead sequence (here: the Moog) is in the centre too, but with pingpong delay to add a stereo feeling. The supporting sounds/sequences (here the Blofeld and the TT-303) are further to the left/right respectively, and have more reverb/delay. In my recent acid tracks I have one 303-line further to the left, the other further to the right. Thanks again for the compliments!
@machiwoomiapoo
@machiwoomiapoo 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information. I don't really use any plugins. I do pan sounds to fill up the stereo field. I too keep the drums, bass in the center. Although, I'm not opposed at experimenting with that. Thanks for letting me know what you're up to when you record. Take care, Sam.

Oh, you lucky dog. I've been eyeing the Sub Phatty for years. Sounds like you put it to good use here. The samples used on this piece are very crisp and present. The "oh don't be silly" might be just a tad hot in the mix, or maybe just panned a little too far left.. I don't know. Regardless, I really liked that sample and how it kind of answers the "Women in love" snippet. Then the track just builds from there with overlaying and symbiotic arp riffs. That snare is absolutely perfect here. Good jam, bro.

"That snare is absolutely perfect here." Totally agree.
@ShimanskiBeats
@ShimanskiBeats 7 жыл бұрын
thanks Matt! Yeah, I am happy to have found a good deal for a Sub Phatty after some searching. The sheer power of that synth is amazing, and I wanted to catch it somehow in this track. As for the "don't be silly" sample: I also think it got a little too loud in the mix, though an easy fix when I make a studio-version. The snare (as often in my live jams), is an ES2 stock sample, although tuned down a bit and processed with the "punch" effect.
