I got mine played it a few times. I actually prefer no modulation and if I use the effect I slow it down very slow. I usually prefer the violin and horn both off. I mix it with the Yamaha YC73 and with modulation off it cuts through nicely seems to get brighter. The Solina low end is probably the biggest highlight of the unit. This demo seems to perhaps sound better with effects and modulation with less voices active. Less is more perhaps. It sounds better in videos with effects of mod active but in the studio I sometimes prefer none only the raw voice.

I see you're running your Argon 8 to the Mod In on the Solina but there's nothing connected to Mod Out. How is using the Mod Out different than using the main out of the Solina like you're doing here? I thought the idea was to use the Mod In and Mod Out (just like the Phaser In & Out) to only use the effect and bypassing the rest of the Solina.
@ShimanskiBeats4 ай бұрын
I didn't use the mod out because I wanted to have the possibility to use the phaser in the chain. If you use the main out but switch off the phaser, it's the same result as using the mod out. However, you could use the mod out to send the signal into another external processor and feed the back into the phaser (i haven't tried that, though)
@Ni5ei4 ай бұрын
@@ShimanskiBeats Interesting. I've only just received mine so haven't tried it yet but I didn't know the mod in and phaser in were also routed to the main out of the Solina.
@ShimanskiBeats4 ай бұрын
@@Ni5ei yes, so basically you could also just use the phaser and have nice Small stone clone with two intensities and variable modulation speed. Unfortunately the ensemble effect is only on/off but no parameters

Yes, well i had an original Solina back in the 70s, this is close to tempting, almost, practically, nearly.....you know how it is. I will probably get one of these (and a keyboard to drive it), but not just yet.....soon, oh soon....

That's maybe more interesting than the Solinas internal sounds because when you send external synths into it you get a decent vcf/vca envelope for every note.

Thought my Crescendo control wasn’t working, doesn’t seem to work on your either,what the point of it
@ShimanskiBeats7 ай бұрын
actually in the video (particularly the first minute) you can hear quite well how the crescendo works, but only on the first notes (not on second notes while holding the first) and only on string sounds but not brass sounds. But it's subtle so you have to push the slider to the right for a bit stronger effect

My Behringer Solina distorts when I use the Phaser even at low volume. I even switched to a different PA but it still does it. But I have heard that some phasers do that.

The built in chorus effect is really amazing. Takes the sound to a whole Nother level :-)
@Ni5ei Жыл бұрын
I know they kept it as close to the original as possible but since they added a phaser they might as well have given it a stereo output. By the way, at 4:18 it sounds completely out of tune. What's going on there?
@simonbeck74467 ай бұрын
The Small Stone phaser is (and always has been) a mono effect. You can't click your fingers and magically make it stereo - the left and right channels would need to be processed differently, and that would mean redesigning the circuit!
@Ni5ei6 ай бұрын
@@simonbeck7446 Yes, I know the Small Stone is also supposed to be mono but I mean, they already added that to the Solina so they might as well have added a stereo effect.

I always wanted a analog ensemble chorus from old string machines for use on external sources. And now it is here including a Solina String Ensemble a Small Stone Phaser as well 🙂Very impressive Behringer
@ShimanskiBeats Жыл бұрын
yeah that was actually one reason why I bought it, to use it for external sources. I can say, however, that much of the external stuff through the ensemble fx sounds like a string machine now if the sounds have sustain or a long decay :)
@JonJenkins1982 Жыл бұрын
Shit gets real when you hit the 'modulation' button, which is this thing's magical power. The phaser is cool but just makes it sound too busy.
@ShimanskiBeats Жыл бұрын
yeah with the modulation off, it's nothing special - something the people at Solina were certainly well aware of. As for the phaser: I think I know what you mean. I'd prefer a wet/dry control for the phaser.
