Even after the #MeToo movement sparked calls for more women in positions of power, the leadership gender gap has yet to close, and the pandemic’s impact on women in the workforce has set back progress even further. For the CBS News Reports' half-hour documentary, "Women in the Workplace: The Unfinished Fight for Equality," several women share their stories of combating harassment, toxic work environments, and gender expectations that keep women from reaching top positions in their field.

Until caregiving is really addressed as like it can be in the Build Back Better bill, we will not have a strong workforce or a strong next generation... Overall, there seems to be a push to push women down...however there is not a same movement to build men up...with 60% of college enrollment are women, more women in the workplace in general, more women are head of households, then more REAL resources need to be centered around women...not to mention women are often paid less...

Effective leadership often requires experience and a certain personality type. I've seen some extremely effective women leaders in the places I've worked at all levels, but I suspect the sheer numbers are not there to create an equal situation, and won't be for some time.

It won't be b/c getting into those roles requires 80 hr weeks and out competing everyone else at your level to make it to the next. Very few women have the ambition and drive to do this. Even more interesting is that the percentage of women at the top who are happy is very low. So maybe we should restructure the narrative? Instead of convincing young women of an outcome that statistically won't make them happy, why not just let them be women and pursue the things in life that historically have made them very happy?

Women indeed need equality in the workplace and in life generally. I have personally experienced, and still experience, workplace wage inequality. And to all the immature men that start talking about women should apply for hardworking jobs like construction, mechanics, farming, oil rigs and so on. I would ask you, "Where have you been living"? Women do apply AND get accepted to those jobs. Unfortunately alot of women are turned down simply because THEY ARE WOMEN or the workplace can't accommodate them. Look it up, it's not hard. Just grow up and realize that THIS actually happens and women don't have it as good as men. Sorry, but true. 🤷🏻‍♀️

In Australia the independent committee has passed an increase to 2 million low paid workers for a $20 per hour Australian dollars. Business and unions put their cases and unions won. It's a 2.5% increase. The increase will start on the 1st of July 2021. This will help women who are the lowest paid workers.
@M.Happie
@M.Happie 3 жыл бұрын
But the question is, will it make the pay equal to a man whose working in the same position, doing the same work as a woman? If a woman is doing the exact same job as a man, but getting $2-$5 dollars less than her counterpart, then it isn't exactly equality. The law sounds like a step towards that though, so it's something better than nothing. At least in my opinion.

@@M.Happie Ok, I will indulge you for a second and imagine that the Equal Pay Act of 1963 never happened and that it is in fact legal to pay a woman less for the same job as a man. I guess I should also throw out the fact that women take longer breaks than men, go on maternity leave, and work less overtime hours than men. In this completely imaginary world of yours in which women are payed less for the exact same hours and job than a man in that position, why wouldn’t women make up the entire workforce as employers would be able to spend less money on wages?
