Women of Faith - Beyond the Gates of Splendor

The wives of the five martyrs killed in the jungles of Ecuador in 1956 by the Waodani tribe share their stories. Some footage is taken from the award-winning documentary film "Beyond the Gates of Splendor."

These are Biblical, GOD-fearing warriors. We ought to aspire to be just like them! They're a great example of GOD's faithfulness through suffering times. May the LORD continue to use this amazing story to raise up men and women who will not shy away from risks, but embrace them for His glory.

“When the time comes to die, make sure that all you have to do is die!” ~ Jim Elliot. It is poingant to see these precious ones rise in strength and grace and face unbelievable difficulty and sorrow. How much easier their lives had been if those men had taken "normal" jobs and "normal" paths. How much shallower and how poorer I would be today. I owe a great debt of faith to these fathers and mothers of the faith who paid such a high price for influence. I love them. I appreciate them.

Olive Fleming is my Dad's cousin. His name is Bob Swanson and he turns 91 this year. I found a couple of pictures of Olive with her parents when she was maybe 10, and then a teenaged picture of her in with my Grandpa's things, and asked Dad who they were. That's when he told me the story. Olive, if you read this, Dad would love to hear from you!
