It will depend on what the USA Olympic selection will allow. Yes, a brilliant run by Valby but... she was way off the qualifying time for the Olympics of 30:40. She ran 31:41, a full minute slower. Other US athletes (eg Monson) who have already run much faster times, are unfortunately injured and so didn't start in the Trials and will miss the team. Previously the USA has always required the runners to have met the QT.

Parker deserves this honor. She does not alter her performance strategy for any level of competition. She likes to run from the front. It is such a difficult strategy to be successful with, but she will live or die by this method. I just hope her and her coaches have contingencies in place at the Olympics. You cannot be the pace setter for the best in the world, who do not reside in North America.

Kelati was super determined down the stretch. Great work by Schweizer and Valby, too. Amazing season for Valby, placing so high in both the 5K and 10K at the trials after a full NCAA season.

Parker is the best. The others just follow her around and hope they can hang on and when they do survive, they spring out by her for race of their life.

Let's calm down. Not yet obviously, but definitely getting there. Just consider the massive jump she made tactically from the 5k to the 10k in the span of days. Rather than leading from the start like the 5k semi or making the early dash in the 5k final, she spend maybe 4 laps in 2nd to last, then made her first move to 5th, a slight move to 3rd, her final move to lead down the stretch and then fighting off being passed to gain 2nd. Brilliant Brilliant race. The changes were so impressive, from 5k to 10k, and that is based on a college coach for a program that isn't a standard bearer in distance running. They crafted the distance team at Florida around Parker. Her story is one of the best in sport right now....not just track

I love watching Parker Valby run. Against runners at her collegiate level she is dominating and running from the front crushes her opposition. However, as she moves up to elite levels she has to either develop a stronger finish or go out so strong that she takes the kick out of her opposition. At the elite level she paces her fellow runners to very good times but doesn't have the speed to outkick them. She will get stronger as she gets older and gains more experience. It's awesome what she can do now, but she 's going against a different level of opposition. I look forward to seeing her continue in future years. Congratulations to Kelati and Schweizer for such strong runs. I think the world record for 10K on a track is 28:54 by Beatrice Chebet from Kenya which shows the incredible level of competition at the Olympics.

How many of the top 3 will make the Olympics? Do they have the entry standard?
@chrismurphy5787
@chrismurphy5787 3 ай бұрын
Only the winner has the standard. 3rd place is going for the 5K already. Parker has the standard in the 5k and might go because the other two in the 5k are both in the 1500 and the timing in Paris might not make them double raceable. But Parker has a few weeks to break the standard and get in, but considering her year and how much she has raced.....might be too big an ask

@@chrismurphy5787 she won't make it based upon automatic qualifying times, but she can make it through the ranking system. Some higher ranked runners either aren't running this event or are injured so she might end up in Paris.

these big events aren't time trials. They're tactical. Tactical races produce slower times. This race started out at a alow 80 second pace - that's not going to produce fast times for anyone even though the final several kms were very quick.
@LamelKendrick

@@S0ulinth3machin3 yes. she's just not getting it done but her times are remarkable enough that they are worthy of mention. Her tactics are questionable or it's all just coincidence, idk but she's not getting much mention as a contender to be a top American 5k/10k when that's clearly within her reach. She's much better than Touhy as a pro, for example, Touhy needs a year of health, obviously, to truly determine that...the next year should reveal a lot.

Girls on the track need to be more aware of the top runners.. Parker looked to have a better kick if the slower runners had moved. Also the finish tape wasn’t necessary as there was still runners.. hectic by the USATF workers and unprofessional
@Tigerex966

That's not their job, they are supposed to get their best times as well, anyone that sacrifices their times for others is doing so out of pure courtesy, the rules do not mandate it, as the leaders did not move out of the way for them. Fair is fair

Pulling the tape across with lapped runners in there doesn't seem sensible
@CMC20245
@CMC20245 3 ай бұрын
Years ago at many meets a lapped runner had to drop out. Pesently, at the very least, a lapped runner should be required to move out to lane four. Occasionally a lapped runner picks up their pace along side the "lapper" perhaps to grab some undeserved spot light. Either rule change would resolve the problem you rightfully point out.

If Valby ran the race on the inside line she would have won. She basically ran the whole race almost in lane 2. If you do the math lane 2 over that distance is over 660 feet longer distance. The girl that won stayed on that inside line for basically the whole race

1 1/2-2 mins slower than the best in the World Will be extremely lucky to make the final yet alone win a medal! US Women Sprints even up to 800m but 1500m & up no hope they haven’t been World Class for almost 40years Mary Decker the last Female US had that the rest of the World Feared that double she did in 1983 World Championships in Helesinki was absolutely outstanding & so underrated no American would get anywhere near here level v the Rest of the World

We know that, this is Americans against Americans, no American has ever come in higher that 6th I think. That does not mean you give up and not race anymore, The African runners pretty much own this event like they used to other distances like the 800m etc. But as long as our runners do their best Im fine winning is secondary and icing on the cake. The cake is still good without icing and icing

These important distance races aren't time trials. They're tactical. If a race were really fast, Valby might actually have the best characteristics (for an American medal) so long as she's not the one setting the pace.

Parker is not the best, her weakness is she can't kick for beans looks way too exhausted for the effort, Schweizter was the strongest of the field That other black gal knew this and also tried to capitalize on Parker's weakness.

Schweitzer wasn't the strongest. Kelati smoked her. Also, Kelati is the only one of the three who has run the automatic Olympic qualifying time. To top it off, Schweitzer also got nipped at the line by Valby, who doesn't have a kick. Is Schweitzer good? Yes. But she wasn't the strongest runner in this race.
