It's the passer's responsibility to get the baton to the next person, but it's also the receiver's responsibility to take off on time, hold their hand outstretched and steady to receive it. The passer will get it there. If you grab for it, it's usually a disaster.

You took the words right out of my mouth, its the fault of the second runner groping instead of just placing her arm backwards. There's no excuse for that screw up. I feel for the other team members. All that training down the drain.

The receiver messed up the baton exchange. Incoming runner will be tired so it's receiver responsibility not to move off too early which was the problem in this case.

The Oregon's second leg runner held the baton very poorly. That is what messed up the exchange. Holding the baton at the top rather than the bottom can only lead to poor handoffs.

@@jujumen it should've just been a poor exchange. they dropped the baton because the third leg also groped around for the baton instead of holding her hand steady. Poor fundamentals all around.

Yes she ran up on her, but she also didn’t adjust that baton. All runners are taught in the 4x100 to keep the baton how you got it until the fly zone. That way, even if you’re not coming in at usual speed, the outgoing runner has a mark where they slow down, but you have the full baton

Oregon's failure was undone by a combination of bad placement of the baton by Kemba, and the 3rd leg premature take-off. With Kemba unable to stretch to pass the baton, and the runner creating way too much of a gap at the apex or optimal exchange point, both runners had to re-adjust without knowing each other's adjustments. If Kemba held the baton properly, Oregon would've had a successful exchange, but would have NOT placed in the top 3 or 4 since the 3rd leg had left too early and needed to re-start her launch. If the the 3rd leg did not have the premature take-off, Kemba may have had a solid exchange since I presumed she's done this often in prior relays, and Oregon likely would have been un the top-3. That being said, the majority of the blame is on Kemba, since she has 10-odd seconds to correct her mistake, the 3rd leg only has a fraction of a second, and made a mistake that was made by perhaps 50% of the runners in this very same race, but is minimized if the baton is still successfully exchanged without any dramatic change in pace.

Saying a lot doesn’t excuse that it’s drivel. Time stamp 1:27-1:33 none of what you said in your word soup happened there. Kember held the baton in the middle which made it virtually impossible to make a clean hand off. The 3rd leg runner went off at the right time and did nothing wrong here.

@aaronfleming9426
@aaronfleming9426 Жыл бұрын
@@gordonwaldner9792 the French/Japanese "underhand-upsweep" actually is faster as well as safer and easier to learn. The American-style "push pass" distorts natural running mechanics which slows the outgoing runner. That distortion creates more variability in practice and meets, which is why it's more difficult to master. If you doubt me, watch an outgoing runner in slow motion. Count how many steps they take with their arms extended at right angles to the body...typically five steps, though sometimes less and often six or seven.

TT paid back Thelma as both represented the US in TT freshman yr when the US coaches gave Thelma the nod at the World youth Track and Field Championships in Finland to run the anchor leg ( a position that year that TT or Lauren Rain Williams should have been given) and Thelma took off early and 3rd leg Jasmin Reed who had created a considerable lead after the third leg curve watched Thelma take off early and crossed the passing zone line before slowing down and when she finally took the baton she dropped it. That lose cause the coach a job and a mojo was created. Thelma running anchor when Jasmin is running 3rd leg has resulted in what has been to steady great competitors making their far in between passing errors. We will have to watch out for the next time these two are in a relay race competing against each other . Anyway TT got her revenge for being bumped off the relay team so Thelma could run the relay for the US who lost for the first time in nearly a decade back in Finland when Thelma was the youngest runner on the US team. As she is part of the fastest team time in the Collegiate and world ranks this year. That didn’t matter as to TT it was personal and I was surprised to see her chop down the freshman at the tape. Just saying I see another motivation for payback coming in the highly competitive field of the woman sprinters! Expect Jasmin to up her training as she is one of the best 3rd leg runners in the 4x100 in the world since she was small.. she has been dominant.

TT used to much energy in this race. Should have saved some of that for 100m final... AG-GIEEE Pride

Lol no. She fought for the win like she should have or else they would have lost. Plus, imagine her trying to “save energy” for the 100m final just to still lose.. She would have been double pissed. Really triple pissed because she also lost the 200m.
