it's sexist attire in reverse as 1908 women had to wear the bloomer floppy skirts as society dictated. now most have to wear beach bikini or get labeled something else again. funny though, field events discus, shot, jav and hammer are same as men's attire. some marketing involved behind the scenes i suspect

Why aren't pole vaults and ramp jumps ever used in ancient war movies. Ive seen ramp jumps used to go over the walls of fortifications in some Asian documentaries and I imagine pole vaulting was also used to assault fortifications in ancient times.

Only with flexible poles they can jump this high. Male athletes with wooden poles used to jump, like, 3 m? Bamboo was helpful but not nearly as much as fiberglass and carbon fiber. Edit: On second thought, I guess a reasonable use of vaulting in ancient war movies would be for the purpose of avoiding horizontal obstacles (e.g., jump a stream).
