I finished the final book last night-whew! I agree with you on the NF list. I genuinely enjoyed every book and would be happy with any of them winning. I was also most surprised by my response to Thunderclap-loved it! My heart is also with HTSB and my head was saying Doppelgänger until I finished Code Dependent. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took the prize. It was so well-written and my most annotated. My heart is with Brotherless Night for Fiction, but my head says it will be Enter Ghost. I’d be happy with any of them other than Restless Dolly Maunder. Now on to some of the long list.

Gretchen - you are awsome!!! I think those judges secretly watch your Videos. So many books you read - wow!! is it possible to make a video on: How much time you spend each day to read, speed - pages/hour & your daily routine? makes us motivated more... Happy reading 🤗

Interesting!! I have only read A Flat Place, which I loved, I will read HTSB and Doppelganger when I get time. I really liked The Wren, The Wren and would be super happy for it to win if your prediction is right Gretchen! I loved Brotherless Night, I'd say that was my favourite (of what I so far read) I didn't love EG. I actually think Soldier Sailor will win! That's my prediction ;) I still haven't read Dolly or River. Looking forward to the announcement tonight 💕📚

I don't know the nonfiction list as well as you, so I'm unsure of which is most likely. I really loved How To Say Babylon. I agree with you in that it is such a beautifully written memoir. It really stuck with me after I read it as well. I'm glad that we agree on Restless Dolly Maunder not winning. I also found The Wren, The Wren to be boring as well, but can see the possibility of it winning, The political implications of Enter Ghost was my main reasoning for why it might not win. That said, the judges this year seem like they might be willing to make a statement, so fingers crossed. It seems like so many of us really enjoyed Soldier, Sailor. Good predictions!

@@madeubook I know! I’m still trying to decide if I’m going to try and read all of the Booker Longlist or just a few that catch my eye. I’m exhausted after just one Longlist. I can’t imagine how you handled three!

I have much the same reasoning as you when it comes to the fiction list, but I still hope they go with Enter Ghost (but it will probably be The Wren The Wren or Soldier Sailor). For the non-fiction prize, I think Doppelganger but I've loved all four of the shortlisted books that I have read so far and I can see the case for all of them.

I was so impressed with the Nonfiction prize. I went into this not expecting much, especially since this is the inaugural year, but there were so many fantastic reads. Can’t wait to see how this prize evolves over the years!
